You given the wrong analogy. The iPad isn't meant to replace your 'dodge ram'. It like when you have a truck or SUV for the heavy duty stuff, but you have a sports car for when you just want to do the fun driving. Same thing basically. You guys really don't grasp what this thing does or where it fits into society. Actually pretty puzzling to watch a bunch of people on a conspiracy website that refuse to think outside the box, and unrelentingly place the iPad in their neat little preconceived boxes. Very interesting..

And you're assuming a Dodge Ram isn't capable of "fun" driving. My analogy fits for me, perhaps you just don't get it.

In all reality, Apple Products, like the iPod, iTouch, iPhone and now the iPad, are all Fashion Accessories. That's about it in a Nutshell.

They just do the job they're suppoosed to do and in some cases worse than a competitors Product. In some cases, Better.

The prices are really "Over The Top" for this sort of product and I'm sure people are going to start waking up to the hype surrounding these Apple Products.

The iPod, HDD Type, was about the best product Apple Produced and it surely got Apple back on it's feet.

May be capable of fun driving, but it isn't a sports car!

I thought this would be a great time to post a link to this video, which is purely comedy. There is some language but it is all bleeped out.

The iPad is a Comedy Gold Mine

I personally think the Ipad is alright. If this is the direction which technology is headed in, and it very well could be then it's a nice step. I am not going to be buying one, but I will see how my friends that do like theirs.

Did you see the iPad keynote in January? Jobs hyped this device as something better than a laptop and smartphone for browsing, photos, games etc. Does it live up to what Jobs promised?

Oh, Hang on, Did you say iPad? Disregard those questions, sorry...

Actually anything that is on YouTube plays just fine which is a majority of the inlined videos in threads. You are correct that the videos do not play in the VIDEO & MEDIA area of ATS but to be honest with you I mainly lurk in the forums where I love to read posts like this

For the things you listed, I would say yes. Then again, I think it depends how much importance someone places on portability. To have a full version of the internet, streaming movies/tv, music, books, magazines, your photos and the multitude of apps...... all in a device the size of a magazine. Thats pretty great to me. I wouldn't take a laptop out with me while running errands, or going to meet a friend for coffee or tea. But I would take this. Going on a vacation I used to bring a laptop just so I had access to internet and could watch movies on the plane (if my battery lasted). But now I will gladly bring this. Where people will be disappointed with the iPad is if they want heavy duty business or processing capabilities from the iPad. Its not made for that. Maybe a few versions from now, but generation 1, this is build for speed, and media/content consumption.

the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the ipad was what on earth would you need one of those for? It's so impractical for what it is aswell as the steep price. The iphone is appealing because of it being nice and compact so you can fit it into your pocket and so you have a versitile gadget which you can take anywhere. But the size of the ipad just defeats the object of having a mobile computer because of it's size so you may aswell have a laptop or netbook which has much more functionality, it just doesn't make any sense to me. Your explaination of why it is being so hyped up makes sense to me and I wonder why I haven't thought of this before. I think you've nailed it, it's all about centralisation of information.

I saw a news report the other night about it's launch and they were showing queues of people waiting at midnight so they could be the first to buy one. They spoke to one guy waiting who said he was goig to buy three here, then buy another 3 at another store in another town then buy another 3 in another town. First thing that came to mind was what a sad sad person.

Personally, I loathe anything touch screen, so an iPad is very low on my list of things to look at, let alone buy.

I have an iPod, but it is a year and a half old, so I am officially a year behind in terms of Apple's technology. I really don't care though, it still works just fine (even if the battery has half the life it used to). My mom has an iPhone, and that thing gives her so much trouble, so that makes me want one even less (and add to the fact that I rarely use my phone anyways, so there really isn't a point in my having anything like it).

In a few months, I fully expect Apple to unveil a brand new iPad, adding some new upgrade like a camera or something. By Christmas there will probably be another one that is light years ahead of the one just released, and they'll have kept the price the same, making people feel like they are getting a deal or something.

Conspiracy wise, I think paying people to give a product a good review is a biggie. I know it might not seem like that much, since we're all used to NWO/Illuminati type things, but when you have a company as big as Apple paying some of the biggest newspapers and such in the country to give good reviews of a product, that reeks of dishonesty at a terrible level. Then again, that might just be me.

For all people talking about whose products are better and so forth.

Not one of the Major Computer companies makes there own hardware except for Acer(Acer sometimes makes there own hardware and sometimes not).

HP, Dell, Apple, Toshiba, Sony etc buy devices (Laptops) made buy Compal, Asus , Foxconn and add there own logo's and sometimes change stuff such as processors.

And the subsidaries of Acer: Gateway, Packard Bell, Emachines etc all use rebranded Acer products and the same is the situation with Compaq Computer which HP purchased around 10 years ago.

The case of doing anything these companies do is slap there logo on the devices or in the case of Desktop computers put the stuff together all of which came from someone else.

Foxconn makes the Xbox, Playstation 1 , 2 and 3, iPhone, iPods, iPad, Macmini, Nintendo Wii, Kindle, most Motorola phones, HP & Dell computers

Funai makes TV's for many companies.

You can buy computers from Asus and Compal that look exactly like many HP, Sony & Dell laptops except for not have a logo on them.

Asus didnt use to sell computers to consumers and just to other companies who want to repackage there products; but not you can see there products in BestBuy etc along side the others due to there success with the EEEpc

Pretty much no major companies make there own products except for Sony (certain products), Apple, Microsoft, Dell, Intel, Motorola don't own factories so there is no way that could make there own products.

Forgot to mention the only difference between the devices that Apple, HP, Dell etc have is the software all of the equipment is made by the same companies. Each of those companies makes there own software and that plus the paint job are the only things that make there products different.

I work for microsoft man, they are paying me to post here

I get like 5 000 $/month just to post in ATS, in every tech thread to make it look like microsoft products are superior

you need to understand that I told you about TRUTH, I was trying to buy one for me and I couldnt, simply because it wasnt what I expected, and I got pissed since a lot of news and reviews about it just forgot to mention it was suppose to be an e-Book

but hey, when you charge 500$ for an e-book, you really dont need any anti-marketing

after 1 or 2 months, it gets done mouth to mouth

just answer me that : Why did you make a post about the benefits of an iPad in relation to cloud gaming, if you dont know ANYTHING you were talking about, I mean, you are not even into tech like computing college whatever, otherwise you would know

This poster received 5 stars and posting incorrect information, and the masses [you people] are believing this lie.

The reason why Apple does not support Adobe's Flashplayer is because it is spotty and drains too much battery/energy life. In addition, Flash is way out of date and Apple is encouraging Adobe to move to HTML5, which in lamen terms is the next generation of how we view videos/sites/songs, etc.

You shoudn't hate on Apple for trying to make your experience with their products better. But then again, I am talking to trolls.

Edit: You CAN play YouTube videos on iPad, iTouch and the iPhone.

Like most - I just don't get the ipad? Another boring product for bored individuals. Now all the Executives at work will want one and my engineers will have to support it. I suppose it will keep us gainfully employed a little longer.

I don't get the iphone either, but that's another crap fight all together.

I love my gadgets, (usb chainsaw - awesome) but apple are great at making believe you need their products. 10 points to them.

I guess if one is willing to compromise content for size then this is the device to buy.

- If you're on a flight, train or in a car can you pop in a DVD and watch it?
- If you're at a hotel that doesn't have wifi only ethernet, can you access the web?
- Does the iPad let you download files of your choice from the web and save them to HDD?

What Jobs said in January is IMO false advertising. Now I'm a big fan of Macs and OS X Snow Leopard (I run it on my PC) but I think Jobs is starting to suffer from magalomania. Why the h*ll doesn't new Macs come with a BD player for example? The guy is stubborn beyond belief and this might very well lead to Apples demise.

I wouldnt

I mean, if you can take an iPad to any place, you can take netbooks

since you are a man, and you dont use huge purses, the iPad will require something for u to carry, just like an netbook

so, if you are not buying for the fashion, its for the amazing touchscreen interface ...

so I hope you enjoy the interface and not get bored with it ...

Not that easy but what I plan on doing (just like you would do with a iPhone) is ripping any videos that I wish to watch and sync with iTunes.

Probably not but they will offer a 3G version in late April if this is a concern.

You can sync any files against applications through itunes. For instance you can specify which keynote decks you want to include on the iPad right from inside iTunes. It is really easy to use.

Not trying to sound like an Apple salesman but it seems people are attacking the product fiercely when they have not even seen one in real life!?
