I don't think you're getting my point. What you're saying is analogous to "guns are dangerous". Guns, like the welfare system, are inanimate, and
cannot act with will or malice. It's the people who USE (or abuse) these tools that decide the outcome.
MANY, MANY people use the welfare system to help them get on their feet and then go on to be productive citizens. Many people are unable to work in
this society and use the welfare system to get along in life. That's what it's for. Then, there are those who I think you're talking about, who
abuse the system, take advantage of it and don't even try to do their part. You are looking at this last group and blaming the welfare system for
THEIR failure. If welfare was a failed system, it wouldn't work for ANYONE and the first two groups wouldn't exist.
So, it's not the welfare system that is at fault, it's the PEOPLE who abuse welfare that are the problem. Does that make sense? We can disagree, but
I wanted to make sure you understood my position.
Im sure your dogs are great but that's not the point because if you want to apply that to that im talking about then the people who HAVE BEEN trained
would be fine yes,
And the people who have been "trained" to take pride in themselves, not be lazy, not take advantage of others, etc., ARE in the first 2 groups
above. I'm in that group. There was a time in my life when I needed supplemental income. But because I had been "trained" to have a sense of pride
and self-sufficiency by my parents, I couldn't WAIT to get my own job and support myself. And I did what was necessary to do that.
but those who go from poverty to having a form of income and do not have the knowledge, guidance, or urge to use it properly will only further there
own self destruction.
I agree with this. But it's still the people themselves who decide NOT to go out and get a job, go to school, or whatever they need to to be
successful.
