I disagree. They're not really fighting. They're taking a few pot shots with a handful of rockets aimed at civilians. That's definitely not going to hurt the Israelis military, but it definitely will pi$$ them off, which again, will ultimately just make the situation that much worse for the Palestinian civilians.

Is it really going to take the international community sending troops in there to solve this?

This is EXACTLY what should happen...Israel has dragged its feet on the two-state issue for far too long...

Israel should agree to a two state solution based on its pre-1967 borders within a pre-specified time frame, or a large multinational force should invade Israel combined with sanctions designed to bring its economy to its knees and force said solution on Israel...

Lets face it, there's precedent for such action being taken..."Regime change" in Iraq, "The War of Terror" (deliberate Borat-esque mislabeling) in Afghanistan...One could go on and on naming them...

But nope, its pie in the sky stuff...Because the international community is piss weak when it comes to Israel's continual crimes against humanity and its constant violation of UN resolutions, yet oh so quick to label anything Palestinians might do as terrorism

Edit - grammar

Given the arm's embargo against Palestine its only natural that they are using second rate weapons in comparison to Israel. That alone is clearly a non threat the state of Israel. However if Palestine armed forces were to have been upgraded then the outcome would be as bloody as hell itself. Perhaps thats what the general public is not assessing.

ie, If the armed forces were to be supplied with enough state of the art weapons against air and ground forces, enough to halt the insurgency then this would surely create a crisis within the state of Israel. Do you see how simple this whole situation can turn around. You have an active 600,000 +- amount of human resources who only lack one criteria to engage such a force as the IMD. Give them what they need and you have successfully un-stabilized the middle east without engaging your own forces, let alone your logistic capabilities. The rest is simple harvesting to repay the forces needed to repel the insurgency.

Israel vows fierce response after Kassam kills Thai worker

www.jpost.com...

Pull your heads down in Gaza... question remains, why there still are no anti-grenade (Iron Dome) around Gaza?

Stuff is our there, but they wont use it - why?

EDIT:

“It is severe escalation,” said Shalom in remarks broadcast on Army Radio. “Israel will not return to the situation of before Operation Cast Lead. The response will be particularly fierce...I hope Hamas will learn a lesson.”

Op Cast Lead 2nd part on its way - that will fuse tensions around ME - after all these tense moments in Temple Mount, now this... Doesnt look good at all, when we remember that Fatah and Hamas is more united these days:

Rival Fatah party and Islamic Hamas movement declared unity in Jerusalem to defend al-Aqsa Mosque, as Palestinian demonstrators clashed on Monday with Israeli soldiers north of the West Bank city of Ramallah.

It doesn't matter. Practical reality is what it is. The Palestinians, as is, have no chance of a military victory. Their only chance of earning their freedom is through diplomatic channels...both on the international stage and even with the Israelis. Every time they launch a handful of rockets into Israeli civilian territory, they weaken their negotiating power (not to mention draw the wrath of the far superior Israeli military). In fact, this is part of the reason why the arms embargo itself will never be lifted. It will clearly lead to a gigantic escalation of violence, which is something the international community wants to avoid.

Lets not forget :

UN Fact Finding Mission finds strong evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the Gaza conflict; calls for end to impunity

NEW YORK / GENEVA – The UN Fact-Finding Mission led by Justice Richard Goldstone on Tuesday released its long-awaited report on the Gaza conflict, in which it concluded there is evidence indicating serious violations of international human rights and humanitarian law were committed by Israel during the Gaza conflict, and that Israel committed actions amounting to war crimes, and possibly crimes against humanity.

The report also concludes there is also evidence that Palestinian armed groups committed war crimes, as well as possibly crimes against humanity, in their repeated launching of rockets and mortars into Southern Israel.

The four members of the Mission* were appointed by the President of the Human Rights Council in April with a mandate to "To investigate all violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law that might have been committed at any time in the context of the military operations that were conducted in Gaza during the period from 27 December 2008 and 18 January 2009, whether before, during or after."

They deserve everything they get, and now it seems they will get what they asked for.... No sympathy

That statement suits exactly how the Palestinians must feel towards the Israeli government for being caged and treated the way they are.

Do you honestly, not have the intelligence to partly try to understand what it must do psychologically to a fellow human being, having to live the way they do?

If not, I'm sure they will use it as a reason to create more illegal settlements.

Well whats next? A new buffer zone? Then more terrorist attacks on settlers in response. Requiring a new buffer zone further out?

Yeah... probably.

Here's a radical idea though. How about Israel stops building illegal settlements? I don't know... just putting it out there.

I have underlined part of your quote. This is exactly what it is, do you know see how fragile this one sided war is. With a simple stroke of pen the whole situation can reverse itself tenfold. Now think if such a situation was agreed to take place, who would benefit the most ?

Ah geez, it never ends. Some stupid Palestinian kills an Israeli and now some stupid Israeli's are going to kill a hundred or more Palestinians....You know, Americans would be alot like Palestinians if we were to attempt to retake a pure constitutional government as far as kill/death ratio.

PRESS TV are no reporting that the IDF has carried out several air raids in the gaza trip - nothing new here as it always happens after a rocket attack.

It won't happen, but if it did, I suspect that the Israelis would still defeat the Palestinians rather easily. You would have a state of all-out war, and in that event, the Israeli miltary is much better trained and will still have higher quality equipment, not to mention they have the advantage of air power that would allow them to strike anywhere within Palestinian territory within a matter of a few minutes.

Well usually they're more "precise" and actually bomb something instead of randomly shooting into civilian areas. Is there any indication of what they attacked or was it the usual "targeting militants in their homes on intelligence information"

That is what freedom for your existence is all about. That is exactly what all the European nations were doing while under the German occupation. It holds a high price. Remember freedom is not free, its fought for with blood and acts of bravery.

Yes. This is exactly what happened during WW2. Nazi Germany launched rockets at UK, clearly fighting occupation of its motherland - London and ctr.
The same here. Rockets from Gaza fired at Israeli territory are freedom fighting. So far this kind of freedom fighting got citizens of Gaza in blockade. Before this freedom fighting style there was no blockade. I wonder how much this freedom fighting will cost normal people in Gaza.

The funny thing is that there are no illegal settlements in Gaza. Or near Gaza. And there are rockets. Actually when there were Israeli settlements in Gaza there was a lot less rockets/mortars and almost all of those were fired at those settlements. Now it is raining on Israel itself for almost a decade.
However there are Israeli settlements in West bank and there are no rockets from there. Weird, ha?

Assuming these Rockets were, as usual, supplied by Iran to these Muppets?

Israel, when are you going to actually do something about this?

You appear weak when you don't stand up for yourself!

They bring it on themselves.. They must love being shot at or something, or provoke Israel into attacking so those poor oppressed attention seekers can scream over bodies on TV....

Zero sympathy for them anymore

If Israelis and Palestinians can't agree to a simple 2 state solution and all it does is incite violence from both sides, let someone else just wipe both off that area of the map. Let neither have it. It's not entitled to Israelis because of their religious beliefs and Hamas isn't helping the Palestinians with the issue because our media focuses on the 'terrorist' faction and not the civilians who are oppressed and want their own land back.

Seems the only way to stop the violence over there is to just let them fight it out since that's all they'll do anyways. Israel will keep pushing their limits and Hamas will keep sending rockets every now and then giving a reason for Israel to retaliate and demolish whatever they wish under the idea of Hamas is using it as a base.
