Am yet to read the entire thread, but as soon as I saw your comment, i had to post..
Mutter is ok for saying hi or giving quick links. Mutter is hard to follow if you are having an indepth conversation.
You can't see who is in mutter. Just today I was giving some hep to another ATSer in mutter, and I had to keep asking if this person was still with
me and following my instructions and links.
Chat, on the other hand, allows for a greater amount of character posting. You can say far more in one block and not flood the window. You can see who
is in the room and after recent events, a certain member saw just how much support of the ATS community was behind this person giving their support
and words of strength and encouragement.
Chat has a superior quality over mutter. There are a few extra chat rooms that nobody ever seems to use. These could be gotten rid of or made
available for private chats in some form (perhaps by using a password for certain memebers to gain access to in order to use as private chat room. ie,
I want to talk to ATS member 'bloorp'...so i give them a password I make as I enter the private chat room, then they use that to enter the same
room..nobody else can unless password is provided.)
There is even a link on ATS for everyone who uses Skype. This is a great tool for everyone to come together and chat, but it draws us away from ATS.
Although it is a great tool to produce some cool podcasts, such as the MODs cast that is currently top of the pops in the podcast related section.
We have to take into account the amount of different methods of communication available to all.
I used to like mutter when it popped up a new thread had been posted. This seems to have been stopped. Shame. It was helpful to me, and others i
feel.
Chat is a blessing in disguise for many on here. A U2U is ok if you are not in a rush, mutter is cool if you want to keep it short and sweet... Chat
is fpor chat ..sometimes serious chat.. and long chat.. Chat gives us something that mutter doesn't.
Mutter is brilliant and innovative, yet lacks the 'old school' chat yard.
