People keep saying they are having a hard time here.

But would you prefer to be dead?

Just think about it - aren't we glad to be alive?

Or would we rather be dead? It is easier.....

This is a tough time to be asking this type of question. Evidence is out there that a lot of people would rather be dead. I think it is the uncertainty of what comes next that keeps a lot of people here.

The other side of your question would be, "would you want to live forever?" If life is as great as some people make it out to be, I would think most everyone would say yes. Personally, I think that the idea of immortality sounds like torture of the highest degree.

Agreed Karl, immortality would be horrible for sure...And besides, the fact that life is such a temporary thing makes it so special and precious...

I reckon that sense of it being so special would be lost if it were "forever"...Well it would be for me anyways

Oh yeah, good OP by the way Kawa

No-one really wants to die.

So why not live?

All people want to do is exist, and live, with food and water. So why are the rich countries and the rich people letting people die?

How can they live with that on their conscience?

A friend of mine died not so long ago and he loved life! So I don't think this thread is fair...

He was 17!

If you knew what comes next would anyone bother to reproduce or create music or works of art?

Would we bother to do anything except end it all?

There is an idea that those who are torn out of their lives, either by their own hand or in other terrible means, may possibly be the reason as to why ghosts exist.

I would not like to live forever as I wish to experience 'the other side' at some point.

Yes, I would like to live long enough to experience anything and everything that I can in the here and now. Blimey, I'd love to travel to the far reaches of deep space..

But who is to say that you can't do that on the other side?

We have so little knowledge about ourselves and our position that we must live. Our bodies have an amazing will to live. It is hard to actually end a life.

I'm sure there are times when we sit there and think 'what's the point?'
IMO, the point is to live and journey and let nature take its course.. and we may find we live and journey again and again and again..

Time will tell ..

Otherwise I'm quite happy at the moment

A lot of people want to die. Some people just fear the uncertainty of it or feel obligated to be here for one reason or another.

Why do 1st world countries exploit the 3rd world? Greed. Believe it or not, there aren't as many people out there that value life as much as you do. Some people block out the nasty side effects of globalization, other people somehow justify it in their minds. Either by deeming other races "subhuman" or they can somehow con themselves into believing that they are doing it for "the greater good".

Yes, I would rather be dead. I would not care to put the people I care for in the sad state of mourning my death. I would not care to endure a messy, probably painful and possibly failed attempt at suicide. I live only to "get through it" with no real hope of any happiness. I consider myself a realist. Of course "dead" is a mystery and therefore the question actually becomes, "would you prefer a mystery to the life you know now, with the understanding that that mystery may be oblivion?" For me, that answer is a clear unambiguous "yes."

edit to thank you. It's not everyday you get a legitimate opportunity to express disdain for life and the desire that it end. It's kind of taboo. I appreciate the opportunity to express my true feelings. s&f!

Nothing is fair.

I am sorry for your friend's death.

The sooner we learn that nothing is fair, the sooner we learn.

It is a very hard thing, I know.

You don't have to preach to me!

I have experienced a lot in my short time here on earth.

People don't die in vain... They influence others to get on with their own lives and understand how fragile life really is!

Life is beautiful and people take a lot of granted.

Death is a part of life and inevitable.

The question is I guess, would you be proud of what you have done on this earth when faced with death?

If not change that now because you never know when its going to happen!

There are many times I feel that life is not worth living. It often feels like life is a painful journey that continually brings more obstacles and challenges as the years go by. Just as you feel content and happy, you are bound to feel a sense of emptiness and hopelessness that cannot be alleviated in this physical world. You start to question why you are here, why you exist, what you should be doing and why you aren't doing things that other people are.

However, we don't know what happens when we die. Is there life? Is there a new beginning? Is there another journey? It is a big risk to end your life when we really do not know what happens afterwards. While people might prefer death over life, they forget that the positive feelings and experiences in life might not be the same in death. Will death actually stop one's suffering? Will it actually allow one to escape all the problems they face in the physical world? There is no guarantee.

I would just like to say this - to everyone who is totally fed up with life on this planet - there is always something else to look forward to.

Even though you think you have had enough of it.

You have not.

was hoping noone would go here. really? buddy? really? What do you know of anyone else's life? Life has more goodness in store, eh? For us all, huh? really? Best to take an agnostic's view here I think. You simply don't know if anyone else's life is worth living or not. YOU don't. Perhaps they don't either, but maybe they do. Maybe its clear as can be. How would you know? Life is tragedy in my view. The storyline is no longer compelling, the humor is dull and trite, and even the essential overarching tragedy itself is so everpresent it cannot muster much individual meaning. A very, very bad play. (And yes, I judge my own play, but I'm certain I would find yours the same, if perhaps not as challenging and unrewarding as my own, I'm nonetheless certain it is still a boring, futile, sad tragedy.
Good day.

I've had 2 hours of sleep in the past 32 hrs, and have spent 25-28 hrs of that 32 driving.... I'd rather be dead

On a serious note, some of 'us' have mental f*** ups, that lead us to constant suicidal thoughts, I have it, pretty freaking bad too, manageable now though, thank god, lol just kidding, thank psychology!

Just think about it - aren't we glad to be alive? Or would we rather be dead? It is easier.....

This is what puzzles me a bit... it's easier to be dead.... ?

I'm not in all honesty glad to be alive, of course I do feel lucky to be alive, but even lotto winners hate that they won the lotto.....

I also see that you bring up the big countires screwing the little poor countries, and even it's own people.

Well I think of it like this, when a hobo asks you for money, you assume it's for drugs or liquor, so you don't give him/her any change, (I did today, five bucks... hey he'll get a good meal, or really high, either way he'll be temporarily happy....)

Probably not a good analogy, but people really just don't care about other people, the last few weeks of my life would've turned the most philanthropist into a misanthropist!

You've all had your best friend stab you in the back, do you really expect a group of people who consider themselves better than you and everyone else to be 'nice' people!

How can they live with that on their conscience?

You think I am preaching?

Please do not dictate to me about what I am doing and I will not dictate to you about what you are doing.

You are preaching - about what you believe in.

I like the 'optimism' in that post, but it's just not right.

There are girls out there right now, that will be raped and tortured for the next few weeks then killed with no contact with the outside world and no sense of happiness..... not much to look forward to....

But to add to this, if anyone out there is suicidal, a few options is the Suicideforum.com. and the Suicide hotline, although the phone line has been known to have people put in hospitals for the mental on a whim.... But mainly a psychologist, or and this is a big OR see your rabbi, priest, imam whatever, as long as it stops you from dying, there worth even seeing too. lol

Now I am replying to myself - because I have got negs etc on here - just realise that you have your life, you probably have to get real about good and bad, and you really need to love yourself - that is the answer - don't let people who tell you you are bad to register - LOVE YOURSELF! That is where you start to have a good life.
Then you have God in your life.

Forgive me for being judgmental, but when someone tells me the meaning of life, I like to see what their credentials are for dispensing such advice. I am much more likely to believe someone that has experienced what life has to offer than I am going to believe some child that is nothing more than high on life at the moment. I am not saying that you are either of these things but I am curious to know what you have done in your life that makes you so confident that you have it all figured out?
