Aleistair Crowley was able to do this kind of thing, but sometimes it would go wrong...for example, one of his 'daemons' (which is a neutral term
meaning 'spirit' - not all are 'evil' but this one was) was able to break into his protective magic sand circle by blowing on the sand and jumping
in and it took a while to put the guy in his place, as it were.
To summon entities, you have to develop a very keen sense of concentration: Crowley's writings are mostly published and out there either on the
interenet or on Amazon.com or at Borders &tc. and he warns that to do this kind of thing you have to adjust your mental powers up one notch at a time
(thorugh grades), and be fairly fluent in astral travel.
Also you have to know the exact name and meaning of the name of the daemon you are summoning, and his function, or attributes. You also have to know
the EXACT pronunciation of the name, otherwise if you have any 'subconcious doubts' about what you are doing, you might find yourself open to attack
- apparently these mental creatures look for weaknesses in the Magus' mind (esp subconscious mind) so developing 'firm belief' in how to control
these pesky critters is key (if you have any doubts about your ability to control them, even subconsciously, then you might be in for a rough time -
and the effects may linger for several months afterwards.
Also it is helpful to be trained in a particular method (e.g. Alexandrian Magick e.g. The magickal Rites of Alexander Sanders of Machester England)
who likewise outlines various protective mechanisms - being 'inducted' by a 'guru' or another Magician/magus into one of the various methods or
schools gives you confidence - and it would be a good idea to have a heart to heart with someone who has already done this kind of thing successfully
and to find out if they know (first hand or not) of anyone in their circle who has 'come a cropper' i.e. gotten into trouble or hurt by these
entities.
One story I heard involved some ex-friends of Crowley's (weren't they ALL) putting the circle of protection ON THE CEILING instead of on the floor
where the magician stands, and they were found dead on the floor the next morning with 5800 small bites all over their bodies resembling snake bites.
One of the members who managed to get away from the rite that went wrong (there were 3 persons involved in the rite, and 2 died with the bite marks)
became mentally disturbed for many years afterwards and apparently died insane. He retold the story of something going very wrong (they were summoning
up Chorazoan, who is a particlarly nasty and powerful daemon, whose name means the equivalent of (roughly), CONFUSION or CHAOS) and one of them said
that the daemon turned himself into a 100-headed snake who began devouring their flesh (their screams could be heard 4 blocks away).
Not sure if 'auto-suggestion' plays a part in these little dealings (if you really really really really think you are being bitten by a 100-headed
snake (200 teeth tearing into your naked flesh at the same time for a long time ...) then you MIGHT begin to MANIFEST the marks which apparently in
this case really were bloodied with the skin torn right through to the arteries - cause of death was stroke for one of them, and coronary arrest for
the other one...
My advice, go see a professional Wiccan Conjuerer, and don't do it alone - have an experienced practitioner with you to help you with the spells in
case something goes amiss - Crowely almost always used an Acolyte with sharp ESP abilities (or vivid imaginations !) and a strong sense of
concentration e.g. being able to stand on one leg for over an hour without feeling any pain. This is the kind of trance state you have to be able to
maintain throughout the rite, and not get tired in the middle - that's where the trouble begins.
It's best to work UP to this kind of thing slowly - Crowley did, and urged his followers to practice for a whole YEAR before attempting a conjuration
of any kind...
Just my $.02 this afternoon...
