@Whiteraven, thanks for putting up some of his lyrics.

A couple of posters mentioned something about the way "he presents himself". Lol.

This is one of the most private people who has ever lived.....and how does he present himself? As a singer? A poet? Father of five?

I wish he "presented" himself a lot more. I adore him. My nephew and his teen friends have robbed my CD collection of much of his older stuff, so yeah, he's going to be timeless. As well he should be.

BOB DYLAN LYRICS

Saved Ringtone Send "Saved" Ringtone to your Cell Saved Ringtone

"Saved"

I was blinded by the devil
Born already ruined
Stone-cold dead
As I stepped out of the womb
By His grace I have been touched
By His word I have been healed
By His hand I have been delivered
By His spirit I Have been sealed.

I've been saved
By the blood of the lamb
Saved
By the blood of the lamb
Saved
Saved
And I'm so glad
Yes, I'm so glad
I'm so glad
So glad
I want to thank you, Lord
I just want to thank You Lord
Thank You Lord.

By his truth I can be upright
By his strength I do endure
By His power I've been lifted
In His love I am secure
He bought me with a price
Freed me from the pit
Full of emptiness and wrath
And the fire that burns in it.

I've been saved
By the blood of the lamb
Saved
By the blood of the lamb
Saved
Saved
And I'm so glad
Yes, I'm so glad
I'm so glad
So glad
I want to thank you, Lord
I just want to thank You Lord
Thank You, Lord.
Nobody to rescue me
Nobody would dare
I was going down for the last time
But by His Mercy I've been spared
Not by works
But by faith in Him who called
For so long I've been hindered
For so long I've been stalled.

I've been saved
By the blood of the lamb
Saved
By the blood of the lamb
Saved
Saved
And I'm so glad
Yes, I'm so glad
I'm so glad
So glad
I want to thank you, Lord
I just want to thank You Lord
Thank You, Lord.

Yes sir....and jacob is followen his papa

No offense, but how do you know that he is speaking of God in this song?
He doesn't really say "God", and wasn't it the lamb of god that saves people?
Blood of the Lamb sounds too gruesome for the bible.

What I am trying to say, is that if he is know to speak metaphorically, why do you take his lyrics literal?

I'm fully aware he said it literally, there is no denying that, but whether he meant it literally is another thing entirely.

I think you should read up on Mr Dylan if you haven't already (I'm guessing you haven't) because you would realise that trying to decipher his words and there meanings, literal or not, is damn near impossible.

What you have done in your post is make numerous assumptions about me and my beliefs, a post that is bordering on being a personal attack, which is quite odd considering how tame my other posts in this thread have been.

You mention 'blind belief', I find this rather ironic.

And if the devil did ever appear to me in person and slap me in the face I would respect him for at least going to the trouble of making himself visible, unlike a certain God I could mention

thanks bro...I enjoyed your take on Dylan ... I love Dylan lyrics as well as his ability to never be pinned down.
They called him a folk singer...he said no
They called him a protest singer...he said no
They called him a fundamentalist...he said no

refuses to be labeled

It is amazing to me how deep Bob Dylans fan base has become.

He will certainly be timeless.

Actually he is speaking of Jesus Christ if not God directly. That depends on your view of the trinity concept.

Jesus is often referred to as the "lamb of god." The blood of the lamb is the blood shed by Jesus on the cross. It all goes back to the idea of God sacrificing his son so that sinners may be saved.

Why not point the way to the thread that allready contains those videos? At least then people could read the debate that ensued. Don't you think it is a little more honest to show both sides of the argument?

Original Music Industry Exposed Thread

Let me just say this. Dylan never said he made a deal with the devil. He said he made a deal with the "commander and chief" of a realm unseen. The old testament is taught as a military tactic manual at West Point. The god of the old testament was not hesitant to lead "his people" in to war. The old testament is more closely related to the jewish tradition. Given Dylan's mixed Jewish/Christian back ground I think those things become important in understanding what he said.

It is my opinion that he is trying to say he made a commitment to god to help fight darkness and evil through his music. If you listen to much of Dylan's music it seems to fit.

Came across this Dylan interview where he plainly states that he made a bargian with the devil to get where he is today. Is there truth behind all the speculation behind the music industry's ties to Satanism?

do you see everything everybody says - all of the time - as being that literal?

that isn't a smartassed question

OK - it isn't JUST a smartassed question - I'm serious

I'd like to understand why you would go to this much trouble to single out one remark out of a universe of remarks that could be taken to mean almost anything

You're afraid that maybe somehow something sinister is going on - and that he's somehow letting the entire world in on his his dastardly and nefarious dealings with the Dark Lord - in this interview? :-)

The reason this interests me is - first - love Dylan

2nd - you're really missing something - like the point

Dylan stood up and spoke - out loud - against so much of what he (and a great many other people) saw as crimes against humanity

Injustice

He also did it during a period of time when it wasn't expected, commonplace, fashionable or easy

You may not agree with his take on things. Many people didn't - and still don't

You should go through some of his work - really listen to what he's saying

Try not to focus so much on the one scary metaphor you heard in an interview - and listen more closely to all the metaphor in his work

it might be worth it

:-)

Didn't Dylan once say "The sound of my own voice makes me want to run and hide"?

Seriously, if he had made any kind of supernatural pact, wouldn't he have cleared that situation up right away?

Dylan is the man...

You may not like his voice ( I LOVE his voice) but you can't knock his message and his lyrics.

He is as deep a songwriter (writer in general) as you're ever going to get.

He was outspoken and well loved and respected by many.

Not a lot of people spoke up against stuff... but Bob Dylan did.

You want meaningful or poignant... just listen to some Dylan.

This is one of the most private people who has ever lived.....and how does he present himself? As a singer? A poet? Father of five?

Anyone who knows anything about this master of metaphore, knows
this is the first thing that should be mentioned. From day one, this privacy,
shyness has been the case. Now, without bringing a ton of bricks down on my head. With out accusation, yet as an observation.
I only site the contrast that is the Bob Dylan I know, also as a huge fan.
That contrast comes in the form of a question .

Don't people who are in show business, upon reaching a certain point
of success go through a time of infatuation with the limelight?
This is the oddest thing about the man that I can see. Never has their
been a step into the limelight. In his career this is an odd thing to be lacking.

Why would anyone, seeking fortune and fame, never go through that time of enchantment, upon reaching the pinnacle of their efforts? Through all the entertainment industry, no one I can think of, has been more unavailable than Bob Dylan. Everything I've ever read about him makes
mention of this.

Once again, I say this as a fan, but being a fan for me means nothing close
to worshipping another human being. I would say very simply I like what
this person brings to the table. No man is a God. The Devil has the power
to assume a pleasing shape. Just a reminder not an accusation.

There is a point I'm making. This contrast I see, as a perfect fit, for some
one who already from the beginning, knew they were going to be successful, from the out set. It's as if it all came as no surprise to him. I would even go so far as to say, he has been disgusted by something, the whole time from the very beginning.

If some one ever thought deep enough to ask, in one of his rare interviews
Why through out his career, he has seemed bothered by something, almost agitated? Then the poetry spoken of the answer he gave in this interview, would become more than obvious, if the same answer occured for the
latter.

Ás a good conspiracist I say that there are forces at work we do not see. Blues players and christianity meet eachother at places. If a christian talks about "the chief in charge" at the moment in this world he must refer to satan.....there can not be doubt about that. The chief in charge of eternity is God.

When I listen to the recording of the Dylan interview it is as if there is an audio cut at the moment when he answers as specific as can be. Maybe Dylan wanted to erase the part where he said devil....for obvious reasons i guess....he tried to be honest possible in that interview.

Do not understand me wrong,....I do not know Dylan but I do not take him as a satanist. I rather take him as a poor, good person and musician who was willing to cut a deal with legba...at the crossroads maybe?........but never really thought it to be for real.

k. Live. I'm going to offer an apology for being so course. How ever I did get your attention.
You can be sure I really meant no disrespect. I
have read many of your posts and been in agreement with you numerous
times. Staunchly opposite in others.

Look at your statement? It makes no mention of the same respect I'm
sure you would give to God in the viceversa? If he would step up and slap.
Am I wrong, to doubt this means you have, one sided feelings in the matter?

Careful if you answer. I used a rather sticky way with the question.

You mention 'blind belief', I find this rather ironic.

The irony diappears with knowledge. I'm sure Bob would say so.

legba...at the crossroads maybe?........but never really thought it to be for real.

I oppose you here. I believe with everything I am. This is as real as it gets.

Don Mclean; American Pie

How very odd you should bring this up. Never mind the organ music
you can turn the volume down to read the fist page. then turn it back up for the second page. This site describes something exteremly meaningful about that song. A prophetic funeral hymn for America.

It's gripping to say the least.
