Yeah, but it's supposed to be a gorilla, not some exotic lifeform we've never seen before. Last time I checked gorillas had mouths. I don't know, I could be wrong.

Unless you are saying that Mars gorillas do not have mouths. Is that what you're saying, Mars gorillas evolved no mouths because they feed off the sun's energy directly?

And you say there's no logic in my post. Ha.

Question: How many years will the gorilla have to sit there motionless before you will admit it's a rock?

The "gorilla" is interesting; it has to be a rock, but it s amazing how much it matches a gorilla at this resolution. I think it goes beyond projecting into the image, it really does look like a gorilla.

I also noticed the blip above the gorilla. pixel artifact? Is there anything in a martian sky?

There should be other photos of it. As slow as the rover moves there would be multiple shots from varying distances of that area. They don't show those because it proves the ape to be a rock. Just in case someone should give Charlton Heston a buzz.

MaxBlack, I believe you missed the point....it isn't NASA spreading this nonsense!

How convenient for NASA to be able to benefit from this monkey image...

Tabloids like the 'Sun', and others, will jump on this nonsense to SELL PAPERS!!! So, again, who is benefitting/profitting?

...and how false and deceptive for the American public to be robbed of tax payer dollars for projects which are not needed.

You could not be more wrong. This is good science, and will be valuable for the distant future Human exploration and possible start of colonization on Mars. We will (and MUST) eventually leave this planet, and establish foot-holds elsewhere, we are too vulnerable as a species living on only one world.

It's time to wake up from the lies and deception.

Yes, from tabloids like the 'Sun', or the 'National Enquirer' here in the US....just to name two.

There is no gorilla on Mars sitting and wondering what it is going to eat anymore than there are leprechauns in Ireland.

What??? No leprechauns???

Of COURSE there is no gorilla on Mars! It isn't NASA making that claim!!!

Perhaps someone might get Alex Jones or Richard Hoagland interested in Irish leprechauns, though...they might fall for it, since they fall for just about everything else.

If it is, he's got no face, so how does he eat? Plus, even if he could eat without a mouth, there's no vegetation or signs of any other life. What would it eat to have got that big? Rocks and dust?

Seriously, it's a rock. Sometimes people have to just use a bit of logic.

Your first line reminded me an awful lot of this meme:

Mr Gorilla, what ARE you doing on Mars? You don't even have a face and Mars has no plants, you can't eat on Mars!

Maybe it's a rock eating Kong-type Martian?

I can't wait til other posters start realizing what are legitimate sources and what is batboy material.

It's a prank someone is playing on the sound stage that's used in order to fake the mars rover missions. Just some stage hand screwing around.

It's a rock, that's all i see i'm sorry. We need to set up these rovers with decent video, then moving images can discount all of this silly speculation.

Yes, there are other photos, and at least some of those were posted on an older thread (maybe that thread from 2008 that maxtron talked about, I cannot find that thread at the moment.

Edit: I found the thread I was thinking about, this one, in which I posted the following photos, taken some time before the one in the Opening Post, when the rover was on the other side of the rock.

Great suggestion to look at pics in the sequence! By doing so, one can see the "object" has not moved. If we were looking at a live creature, you would think at least the head would have turned to look at the rover. Case solved. It's a dead gorilla!

Ha!
