BRISTOL, Va. – Nineteen-year-old Keshia Canter handed three burgers, fries and milkshakes to a car-load of Tuesday afternoon customers at the Hi-Lo Burger’s drive-though window. A lady sitting in the backseat leaned forward, between the two men in front, and handed her a leaflet: “Women & Girls” it said across the top.

“Even though nothing is showing, you’re being ungodly,” Canter recalled the woman telling her. “You make men want to be sinful.”

Canter was wearing boots pulled up over jeans, a pink zebra-print shirt with a black jacket zipped up over it. She has blond hair, dark eye make-up and a little red lip ring. “I just asked if she needed any salt, pepper or ketchup,” Canter said. “I mean, how do I respond to that?”

Minutes later, Canter’s mother, Pam Yates, who owns the restaurant, returned from the bank. Canter handed her “Women & Girls” and Yates started reading.

“You may have been given this leaflet because of the way you are dressed,” it begins. “Have you thought about standing before the true and living God to be judged?”

Not again! It seems that the fundamental Christians haven't learned that rape has nothing to do with sex. It is about violence and control. Actually it seems as if the Religious right wants to mold society in their narrow Biblical mindset even down to the way people dress, the music they listen to and the way others think.

I find it ironic that the Conservative Christians are always harping on Freedom and personal responsibility but are constantly placing the blame on sin and Satan.

I don't mean this thread as a blanket indictment of all Christians. Most Christians I know are kind beautiful people and abide by the "live and let live" principle but I do know some that are absolute control freaks and hypocrites.

Well if God created people in his own image then how is it ungodly?

God didn't invent clothing? That was man made...

You make men want to be sinful

So the men are weak, eh?

Can't help themselves because of the way a woman is dressed?

I don't think I have the strength to go through this thread....far too similar to another thread that's been out there recently.

BOOM!!!

Suck on that Religion!!

Isn't part of the whole original sin thing the fact that Adam and Eve copped onto the fact that they are naked?

So by that logic, God wanted us to be naked. So then what's wrong with showing skin?

I really don't like these people that say it's women's fault if they are raped.. Thats twisted.

HAHAHHA

this is the clear example why religion is sick

religion is the BEST way to control people, THE BEST

it doesnt matter if you believe or not in religion, you need to agree with me on that, its the BEST way

if you live by these books like most people, u are as good as $%% to our society, but you are the perfect soldier for every group of people trying to control everything

Now a Burqa would fix our degenerate society, it certainly helped all those Muslims. Women get blamed for everything.

Right. Some of the sluttiest, most promiscuous women I have ever had the displeasure of knowing were churchgoers. Physician, go heal thyself, or have a nice hemlock shake and make the rest of us happy, huh?

The way some women dress do make me want to be sinful.

But, then again:
The way some cars look makes me want that, the way many snacks look makes me want to be a glutton, the way mansions look makes me want that, etc etc etc.

Luckily I have something called self control...if I want something, I will work for it properly verses just take it and have a lengthy prison sentence.

oh, btw, I work out and try to keep fit. I guess I make some sinfully minded also considering I can still get a date now and then.

Being an atheist means I have the fortunate pleasure of *not* feeling guilty or shameful about sex or how the opposite sex makes me tingle in my gibblets.

However, like most human beings, I know how to contain my sexual urges and just because a woman is dressed in a provocative way, is not another way of saying, "Get it here".

So, go on religious zealots and fundamentalists. Feel terrible for "those feelings" your God has bestowed upon you when you look at an attractive human being, be it female or male (or the same!). Spend your time making silly pamphlets and long winded speeches about the corruption and morality of the world as you prescribe it to be.

I'll grab my copy of "Gigantic *sses" and have a nice 2 minutes of "quality time".

EDIT: 2 minutes was overkill. I only needed 40 seconds

He, he, the religious propaganda, I been trying to find any religious zealot that will address me in the streets face to face and tell me how sinful I look act or am but in all my live that span 4 decades only when I was in high school back home and the fundamentalist movement was starting to infest the Island was the only time that I could hear the sinner, chant all day long.

I grew so a thick skin that I guess it shows on my persona keeping the zealots out and away from me.

People propaganda is such a powerful tool, when geared to the young and gullible it can have very strong effects for many years to come, I am a testimony of it, it makes me rethink my religious believes upbringing and with enough research and studies I came to my own conclusion that "organized religion was a hoax and a lie".

but then again that was just me.

When my daughter was 17,she was a victim of date rape.
I wanted to file charges against the guy until I discovered
something. My daughter had worn one of my teddies under
her clothes. She teased the guy and got what she asked for.

I knew if I had filed charges and his attorney found out how she
was dressed,it would be thrown out.The only thing I could do
was to take her to the health clinic. They examined her and ran
tests to check for diseases and pregnancy.

My daughter started to cut herself with razor blades after that.
I took her to a therapist and she did get over this.If we had filed
charges and had a hearing,it would have been far worse for her.
A defense lawyer would have ripped her apart. She would have
been subjected to humility at school. So, we let it drop.

How you dress can determine how you are treated.

From the article posted in the OP:

"“Scripture tells us that when a man looks on a woman to lust for her he has already committed adultery in his heart. If you are dressed in a way that tempts a men to do this secret (or not so secret) sin, you are a participant in the sin,” the leaflet states. “By the way, some rape victims would not have been raped if they had dressed properly. So can we really say they were innocent victims?”

The hand-out is signed “anonymous.”

Yates was angry.

“What if my daughter had been a rape victim?” she said. “I hope that they never handed this to anyone, especially a young person, who’s been through that and struggles with that daily. And then they get handed something that says they are at fault. I cannot believe that a Christian, someone who walks in God’s shoes, would have made this.”

Leaflet in hand, Yates locked eyes with the old man driving the old white car, still parked in the lot, and stormed outside. The car quickly drove away. "

**************************************************

So we know who ever had these printed up was a COWARD, because it was not signed.

I can tell you one thing, if I had been handed that leaflet, those xians in the car would have been very very sorry, I would have shown them some VERY unxian language, and demanded to know who made this filth.

Of course the coward driving zoomed off before he could defend his actions, probably because he had an erection since men cannot control their urges.

I cannot find an actual copy of the leaflet online.

This happened in Virginia.

I do know Chick makes nasty leaflets.

www.chick.com...

Maybe these old perverts who handed out this leaflet are fans.

Truly, the carload of old people was a car of perverts, all they want is an excuse to focus on young nubile flesh, under the guise of saving them.

PERVERTS, sickos.

Yes, but that's still no excuse for rape.

Just because someone is dressed provocatively and flirts with someone, doesn't mean it's an invitation for sexual liasons.

As they say, no means no. And as a male, if I was being teased or led on by a woman, I always question the motives and situation.

You simply do not just pounce on someone if there's doubt and certainly not if they say no!

But consentual sex and then someone reporting rape after the fact...different can of worms.

People used to think I was a bit wild.

I laugh at that. The worst people I ever partied with were not the orgy-going-Pagans.

They were the Mormon Elders daughters and sons, and the church-going Catholics, and the Muslim guys "getting it out of their system." The Catholic ones had the attitude that if they started on Friday night and could pull themselves by their bleeding finger tips into the confessional on Sunday before they died of it, all was good.

Some males have never learned to take NO for an answer.
You may say no,but they will say,you say yes with your eyes.
I have been through all this male bulloney years ago!

It makes one wonder if the car was full of rapists trying to justify themselves through religion.

MamaBeth,

I'm making this observation with no ill intentions. You said your daughter started cutting herself afterward. Isn't it possible that the rape coupled with the fact that her own mother believed 'she got what she asked for' might have contributed towards her cutting herself?

Also, I'm a little confused with your post. You say your daughter was a victim of date rape, and then you imply she instigated it ( and deserved it) because of the way she was dressed.
