WE are committed to a free Taiwan. China will not dare make a move till their 3-stager can get to Crawford dependably.

BTW

Have any other issues of concern more important then this one?

GM is right, as soon as they are able to field the technology that was sold to them by the previous administration, and they have enough medium range missiles to deal effectively with U.S. forces in South Korea, Japan and in the seas nearby, they will finish the communist revolution.

ah but seeing how the US knows all about this...do you not think they are prepared for something like that? They have aircraft carriers and subs in the area...i dont think they would leave those expensive beasts lying around if they werent able to defend themselves on any sort of attack.

Skip it.

Let me put it this way........

Before the first gulf war Saddam bought a ton of top of the line copy machines from an unnamed US company. These machines had the top cutting edge technology built in..........why those machines were so damned good you could make passable US $20's.

A real coupe of a buy for the nut of Baghdad..........

We'll, on the first night of the war those stealth planes all had their targets; the GPS was not as good as it is today but they all had a kicker to count on.............in one of those circuit boards was a little wonder of modern technology which broadcast a the message, "I be here. Yooo hoo. I be here."..............

With an estimated 206 million males 15-49 that would be considered fit for military combat I don't think many countrys would have a very good defence, China and Taiwan is a complicated situation.

As far as my knowledge goes Taiwan is still offically a province of China, though a rebel province. They aren't really independent. They resisted the communism and were aloud to be. Not many countrys organizations recognize their independance. Since they haven't yet I doubt China would start a civil war.

China is just lying in wait to attack Taiwan. And yes the U.S. will be forced to help Taiwan out.IMHO.We may not imediatley send troops but we will supply weapons and intel.

Can the US handle it? Would you go when drafted? A war with China would be a war with Korea again, because the North would jump at the oppertunity.
I see another Korean war, or a war between Pakistain and India.

Is Taiwan recognized by the UN? my last check they wern't.

A few corrections to all your misconceptions.

1) China is not communist, it is nationalistic but as far as communism goes, it's a muddled form of capitalist-socialist. It's far more complex than say the Soviet Union was.

2) A war between the US and China would result in Nuclear War with the US having a major victory.

3) China's military doctrine states (and I've read it with my own eyes), "China's place in the world is merely temporary, 500 years ago China was the most advanced nation in the world as it was 3,000 years before that, and it will be again soon."

China has ambitions but they know they really can't do anything about them, they seemingly hope that the USA will fall out of their way, but their politicians and leaders are divided about if this should be their stance or not. China has ambitions but probably knows we will always be able to "1-up" them.

We would never waste men on China, we'd hit their Strategic forces then their military with our Strategic and Tactical forces. Then send our military to finish the job.

And, FreeMason, I'm sure you read the Chinese generals' white papers that clearly defined their strategy - as I explained it above, but in less words.
In my opinion, the resumption of ABM was because of this. Were the ChiComs to take out most of our assets in that area, we do not want to allow them to hold us hostage by their in-development long range ballistic missiles.

By the way. Fox News has an article about the Chinese rethinking of their strategy after Iraq Part Deux. There's a thread with a link in current events.

TC I wasn't talking about "future" but now. Right now they don't have Strategic Capability worth mentioning.

It also ironically is your type of thinking that often leads to wars that never had to happend

"They are making more weapons so we'll defend against that."

"They are making more defense so we'll make more weapons."

While no arms race ever led to war, what we are talking about here is the distrust believing that the other is going to attack.

If it leads to an arms race it'll probably not lead to a war.

Doesn't matter, the Chinese currency is balanced to ours, all we have to do is say it's worthless and their economy will implode.

My husband and I had a discussion today on Taiwan and China after the news said that US is going to provide some kind of help with arms to taiwan, I told my husband that China was going to attack Taiwan and he said no that they will never attack Taiwan because they will have the entire united nations on them in no time. So does that make sense?

thx guys for taking interest in this topic, as far as I know, China has already make up some plans to stop the US to help TW, and they are spending more money on its military, the data on those stuff that China has published to the world are only 10% at most of the actual data. and it's reported that China also has some kind of secret area like "51 area" US got, so, things are not that easy, US has its own concern too.

China has much bigger fish to fry than a little rock that ran away durring the revolution.

The PROC is working on becoming the next superpower and that is their primary concern. The only way they will so much as look at Taiwan is if the island starts something by stating its full independance, and then it will only be because China doesn't like to go back on what they've said in the past.

China is busy building a fleet, and ICBMs and most above all else an economy to play with the best. Attacking Taiwan would be bad business, it would provoke the US and possible trade sanctions could arise.

Also China is allied with the EU and they would balk at being drawn in between the US and China in a political field.

If Taiwan knows what's good for her she'll just keep making money and lay low, that way everyone will be happy.

My bet is that Chinese guided missile destroyers will be patroling the coast of California within 20 years (to protect their shipping investments, to be sure) but Taiwan will still be the same semi-independent political whatever that it is today.

We speculate as much as we want, China isnt to be sniffed at to do so is dangerous.

Remember the Korean War the US and UK led coalition pushed the communists all the way back to the Korea/ Chinese border. Technally the allies won the fight, but the Chinese so concerned that the coalition would attack them next sent 2 MILLION MEN in arms across the border and thousands of fighters.

On paper our forces were millitarily more powerful, but the sheer weight of numbers overwhelmed our forces and pushed us back to the 58 paralell as it is today.

Over the years things have changed with the advent of modern tech, but still we underestimated the chinese back then and we still underestimate them now.

Bad move.

China does have a big army but its technology is nothin compared to Taiwan this only because the U.S is backing Taiwan financially. Tawians army is more sophisticated.
