But I don't think that coca-cola's motives for picking a "Second Winner" was guilt based...
it was more of "Damage Control"
Sprite has been trying to foster the "Cool" image for a few years by identifying the beverage with black youth, hip hop, rap, etc....
in an effort to.... pardon the word... "Trick" black people into buying more sprite. It's a brand loyalty sort of thing.
Having a white group win their "Targeted Commercial" for black people... reflects negatively on the "Rapport" they were attempting to set up for the purposes of selling more "Product"
Thus, in an attempt at salvaging this "Rapport" they made *2* winners, so that their target demographic could still be targeted.
However, anyone with half a brain will see this ploy as extremely disingenuous, and transparent to their ultimate motives.
For more information on this topic, you can check out this REALLY good video...
I should have been clearer. I agree with you 100%, but what I was actually referring to were the actions of the members in this thread.
I’ve seen some pretty warped thinking, from black and white members, and very few seem to get the idea that this was designed to hit a certain demographic and that everything else is Damage Control.
Exactly. I don’t watch the idiot box too often, but if I recall Sprite had the commercials with the animated doll with an afro right?
It is brand loyalty and is no different from the Joe Camel adverts used to bring in young smokers and create brand loyalty before the targeted people were even old enough to smoke.
The problem I see with this are both sides, blacks and whites, don’t tend to see the real issue—they’re both being played.
Thanks, I’m going to watch now.

I'm a pure bred western European white boy, in a Fraternity, and knowing what I know about step... I agree with coca cola...
This is essentially white people wishing they were tribal Africans.
This is going to ruffle some feathers but oh well.. I don't understand why black sororities and fraternities can't have something that is uniquely theirs, derived from their heritage?
