One of those white girls is the "new white." I'm quite sure one of them is Asian or Pacific Islands. But "oriental" Asians are often now categorized as "white."


I also gotta say - The judges were right the first time. It wasn't even close.

It has nothing to do their colour. The original winner had more artistic quality, and had obviously practiced way more.

It is sad that it comes down to race but the fact of the matter IS, if it weren't for MONEY being involved then we most likely wouldn't be having this discussion in the first place.

I feel that the controversy lies in the nature of the competition as well as a relative newcomer to the competition winning it all, solely based upon the judges scores.

A scoring discrepancy after the fact sounds somewhat fishy to me as well.

Perhaps there was something going on with the subjective nature of the scoring and there is the possibility, albeit remote, that the judges were paid off to favor one team over the other.

But throughout history there have always been controversy whenever previous racial barriers have been overcome.

Looking at the bright side though, Its good in a way, by transcending barriers, it will make the competition all that more competitive in the future.

Using the analogy of Tiger Woods competing is somewhat different.
He had displayed talent in the game of golf throughout his life and denying him the right to compete based upon his ethnicity would be entirely unjust.

I should have been clearer. I agree with you 100%, but what I was actually referring to were the actions of the members in this thread. I’ve seen some pretty warped thinking, from black and white members, and very few seem to get the idea that this was designed to hit a certain demographic and that everything else is Damage Control.

Sprite has been trying to foster the "Cool" image for a few years by identifying the beverage with black youth, hip hop, rap, etc....

Having a white group win their "Targeted Commercial" for black people... reflects negatively on the "Rapport" they were attempting to set up for the purposes of selling more "Product"

IT is based on the tribal instinct that keeps groups of people together.

The whole reason The Coca-Cola Corporation would even hold an event like this is to market their product to the black community.

Do you think they give a hoot about the plight of inner city youths or the integrity of their culture? It's doubtful, but you better believe they care a heck of a lot about APPEARING like they do.

It's obvious that the people they wanted to buy Sprite were upset about the results of the contest so they changed them in an attempt to save face.

Coca-Cola certainly isn't racist, they're just shrewd businesspeople.

The crowd on the other hand... Sheesh, grow up.

Seeing as how, Black people have dealt with racism, prejudice and even slavery for such a long time... I would expect so much more....

I was just reading an article the other day saying within the next couple years in America whites will be the minority. It looks like we are already getting the minority treatment, and the way things are going it looks like some former minorities are looking for payback!

The only reason we all have TV's and radios in our home is because of marketing. TV & radio shows only exist because of the commercials they want you to stick around and see/hear. Soap Operas are called such because many of the early radio drama shows were sponsored by detergent companies like Procter & Gamble, and aired early afternoons when most women would be at home doing housework. That translated over to TV quite well...here's a detergent commercial from the 50's:

The marketers design the commercial to a specific target audience, and then for specific timeslots and channels. Like Trojan commercials on Spike TV, Hasbro Toy commecials on Nick Jr, Oil of Olay on Oxygen, and the rapper du jour Sprite commercial to appear on BET.
Infomercials came into existence because the late night timeslots for channels are dirt cheap, and the products they push would never make it to a premium timeslot airing.
You'll never see a channel give a disclaimer about McDonald's, Coke, GMC, Microsoft, etc.. but they give all kinds of disclaimer's for Ask Lesko, Tony Robbins, ExtendurRod, etc...

So, even though it was not stated that this competition was relagated to blacks, the whites should have just known that this was off limits because step is a black thing? How insulting.

How many of the black competitors take part in African ritual dances on a regular basis? How many of them could say that they really practice this aspect of their heritage.

Come on, it is a form of dancing, like it or not.

And the judges could have shown bias in their scoring so that the whites didn't win, but they didn't. Were the judges all white?

How can the black community or any other minority community look anyone in the eye and tell them that they need to learn to treat them as equals if you're just itching for payback.
