The Iraq War Gets Re-Branded "Operation New Dawn"

www.clevelandleader.com

The Iraq War, which is also known as "Operation Iraqi Freedom", began on March 20, 2003 and is still going strong. Come September 1, 2010, when combat troops begin to leave Iraq, the war will be officially renamed "Operation New Dawn."
In a memo to Central Command commander Gen. David Petraeus, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates informed him of the name change. Gates said that by changing the name at the same time as the change of mission, the U.S. would be sending a "strong signal" that "our forces are operating under a new mission."
Gates also writes that the move "also presents op

I have just recently discovered "Project Camelot" and David Icke. Then I ran into this on the MSM. I find it kind of creepy. Does anyone else?
Creepy or just coincidence, what is your take?

..... OR .....

It could be what it is at face value. A new dawn for the Iraqi people.
Saddam is gone. The coalition forces are leaving. It's their time.

I'd like to think that...

From your ABC link.

Gates wrote in a memo exclusively obtained by ABC News that by changing the name at the same time as the change of mission -- the scheduled withdrawal of U.S. combat troops -- the US is sending "a strong signal" that "our forces are operating under a new mission."

They are operating under a new mission because the war is over.
The Combat divisions are coming home. There hasn't been any real fighting in Iraq in almost two years. My son came back in March of last year he said the same thing. There have been many many sectarian bombings and killings in other words Iraqi Sunni and Iraqi Shia killing each other but for the US the war is done.

I don't know where the Original Article gets the idea that "It's still going strong" when I read that I had to laugh. The reason for the name change is because the Combat troops are leaving because there is not much in the way of combat going on.

I'd "like" to think that also...... I do pray your right, but, keeping my eye's downrange, in case your wrong. Iraq is over, there's a new dawn on the horizon....

So are you saying that the Iraqi war is over?

If so, has the US achieved what it wanted to?

yes saddam is gone....no weapons of mass destruction found.....hundreds of thousands of civilians killed thou if you ask the government of an official number they will severely lower that number.....

the place is a mess....

I dont seriously understand how Iraq is better off now then whensaddam was in power?

yes, there was some torturing of civilians but the US does that with rendition programs aswell....for people that arent even convicted of any crimes yet.....

I understand the whole support the troops and all that and I do, but the mission they were sent on and the reasoning behind the war was an absolute farce.......

Bush should have hung beside Saddam in the town square in my opinion.

Sometimes the universe has its way of showing you a path and leading you down it when you aren't even realizing it. I know for a fact thats true.

2 days before the Haitian quake I decided to browse the fragile earth section and then came across the eQuake app. Well lets just say when that 7.0 happened, my adrenaline spiked and I flipped out. It was a creepy coincidence no doubt.
Which reminds me...I wonder when it will be updated for the new version of FireFox?

Oh yea, thread related talk. This exodus has taken far too long. In my opinion it shouldn't even be taking place because we shouldn't even be THERE. Illegal War is illegal and humanity is DUMB.
Also the 'Operation New Dawn' doesn't sound too menacing. I would rather see 'Operation GTFO' but thats just me.

US troops have been held up on bases for a while now they don't patrol. I wasn't making any claims on the validity of the war just making it clear it's pretty much over for the US. There is a new Government and the Iraqis are focused on each other and their Government.

The US invasion didn't create the sectarian conflict. Research Sunni and Shia history.

Sectarian Violence

Gunmen in Iraq have shot dead a family of eight and beheaded some of the bodies, officials say, amid a wave of pre-election violence.

The gunmen killed the family, who were reportedly Shia Muslims living in a majority Sunni area just outside the capital, Baghdad, early on Monday.

No matter how many times they change the title it will still be known to the rest of the world as operation need for oil greed. Ive been here too long to have my mind changed by some MSM propaganda. Our only real mission shoud be to bring peace to this third world country and leave them alone.

According to Jordan Maxwell, the term "New Dawn" and the symbol of the Sun rising go back to antiquity, and the secret societies still use these things today because it has something to do with the bigger picture, this is why the use of the term and symbol are found so much around the world.

Had a friend lamenting just tonight that he missed the "good days" of the US/Soviet Union "rivalry"

He said the issues in the M.E. just weren't the same. Since the Soviet Union isn't around anymore, perhaps China can stand in it's shoes? or not...

ETA: uhm... we were actually talking about Hockey in the Olympics and somehow turned political, not that I typically have casual conversations about War over coffee, or anything... just sayin'

I really think they need an enemy that they can see.

THis whole bit that the citizens are the enemy is getting old.

I've heard that the Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan blok is kind of like a cold war in process. But how long can they really play it out?

Perhaps the Chinese will step up to the plate.

Maybe building up a defense against an alien invasion force from another planet would be a good play?
