The world is a different place today than the last war with Britain over the Falkland Islands. Britain cannot endure the cost of a war in Argentina's front yard. Argentina is not a third world nation. It has a robust military and population to boot.

Argentina isn't a 3rd world country. Countries like Haiti or Iran are. Brazil isn't neither. Ya they're both growing countries but they're certainly not 3rd world countries. Argentina is a G20 nation and has the 2nd largest human development index and GDP per capita in Latin America

Good for Argentina for standing up against world powers like Britain!
Seems more and more countries are doing so and its nice to see.

Type 42 destroyer HMS York was last night in waters off the islands' capital Port Stanley - spearheading a new British task force in the escalating oilfield drilling row with Argentina.

Why wouldn't he? This is oil we're talking about here. If the USA dont get something out of it, they'll throw their toys out of the pram... revealing a .44 Magnum.
There probably won't be a fight.
Why do you assume your going to get a slice of whatever pie is lurking beneath the crust?

Not publicly no. But between the threat of force & economic coercion, they would turn enough nations against us to make it unprofitable to proceed without US "help". Just look at what they've done recently for f#'s sake! Dragging us along with them too.
Are you saying the US would threaten the Uk over oil that the British have discovered on an island colonised by the British?
