The world is a different place today than the last war with Britain over the Falkland Islands. Britain cannot endure the cost of a war in Argentina's front yard. Argentina is not a third world nation. It has a robust military and population to boot.

Well,
I am Brazilian and if Argentina is not a third world nation, then Brazil ,
one of the top ten economies of the world is a first world country lol!
Brazil and Argentina are third world countries for sure and we have no conditions to fight a war against any first world nation.
The Argentinian air force is weaker now than in 1982, almost a joke.
Just one British submarine with the "right" weapons on board would finish the debate.
The Argentinians are not stupids and as a Brazilian I always envy the courageous protests them make against unpopular measures coming from their government .
Perhaps Cristina should start to provoke Chile ... wait ! Chile has a strong and well armed air force... how about Paraguay?

Argentina isn't a 3rd world country. Countries like Haiti or Iran are. Brazil isn't neither. Ya they're both growing countries but they're certainly not 3rd world countries. Argentina is a G20 nation and has the 2nd largest human development index and GDP per capita in Latin America

Please take a look about the definition of a 3nd world country:

It is not just about economy.

All right, ya. But alot of people will probably mistake that definition for the incorrect "they all live in huts and have never seen a color television" definition.

Lol! you are right!

People think for example that if I am Brazilian, I am living with snakes in the middle of the amazon forest.
But I living in São Paulo, A huge, modern and very polluted city .

Ya alot of times they show south American countries like brazil or venezuela and they just show huts and jungles. That's what I thought you meant in your other post. And Kirchner has ruined our army so much that we probably wouldn't stand a chance against a British retaliation unless she has some secret plan. (which is very unlikely)

There probably won't be a fight.

Why do you assume your going to get a slice of whatever pie is lurking beneath the crust?

Good for Argentina for standing up against world powers like Britain!

Seems more and more countries are doing so and its nice to see.

The inhabitants of the Falklands wish to remain British and do NOT want to be Argentinian.

Perhaps the Argentinians should respect THOSE wishes, instead of behaving like idiots!

how do you know that? did you hear those citizens yourself?

I, as an argentinian who lived some months in the Malvinas Islands (falkland for the british), am sure these people living have only 1 wish: seeing both countries stop arguing and come to a peaceful agreement.

Attemp to fulfill that wish is not behaving like an idiot. Besides, you cant know when is the news are lying. Of course british news will say Malvinas habitants want to stay british, as argentinian news will say the opposite.

A POWER-PACKED Navy warship has sailed to the South Atlantic in a re-run of the 1982 Falklands conflict.

Type 42 destroyer HMS York was last night in waters off the islands' capital Port Stanley - spearheading a new British task force in the escalating oilfield drilling row with Argentina.

I know the sun is a sensationalist rag, but surely the very fact that ships are headed there means 'something' is going on?

Probably just a show of force.

Why wouldn't he? This is oil we're talking about here. If the USA dont get something out of it, they'll throw their toys out of the pram... revealing a .44 Magnum.
Whatever happens, the oil will be sold for US$ mind, thus helping to prop up the international value of that failing currency, so he's right either way. The Tories will sell the remaining trenches of rights to US owned corps tho & make deals for rigs, supply & engineering from the USA. You'd think we didn't have the capability ourselves, wouldn't you?
Oh sh!t, that's right. We did have, but the Tories closed it all down. Nevermind. Our good friends & allies are always willing to step in & and help... them-bloody-selves!

aaah the new falklands war. I remember when the Uk went to war over argentina and I knew straight away what the real war was about and that was oil. These oil reserves are not new they have been known for some time. This was never mentioned at the time as everyone thought it was just Argentina flexing their muscles which was right at the time but the UK knew what potential resourses that area has and been waiting for things to get better with Argentina. Looks like another war is the air again for oil......

Are you saying the US would threaten the Uk over oil that the British have discovered on an island colonised by the British?

Not publicly no. But between the threat of force & economic coercion, they would turn enough nations against us to make it unprofitable to proceed without US "help". Just look at what they've done recently for f#'s sake! Dragging us along with them too.
Aha! Get this for conspiracy! What if Falklands oil to ourselves was the price for UK cooperation in the Coalition of the Might-As-Well-Have-Not-Bothered-Its-For-Spin?

Yes sir...this is the woman who runs a country and at the same times runs around telling everyone that eating pork increases sexual desire..

Does this woman really believe that because of our commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan we wont have time or resources to defend the Falklands.

Argentinas economically buggered again just like in ´82, and everyone knows what Argentina does in an effort to gain popularity....yes,,they invade the Falkland Islands.

They could´nt do it in 1982 and they think they can do it now???
Be serious !!
Does she really think that by maritime blockades where going to say "Alright, you win señora, you can populate the Falklands with 300 greasy haired sweaty tango dancing gauchos, ah and you can have the oil to gel your hair with too"

Most of us didnt vote for her - she has a whole network and was able to rig thw elections, but the tables are being turned slowly, Kirchnerismo already lost HUGE ground in congress. But they're doing it FOR THE MONEY. They don't care about the country. It isn't even safe to walk on the street anymore. We may have been governed by idiots 30 years ago but at least it was safer. The amazing thing is that nobody has kicked her out yet
