, dont worry about the questions, I enjoy answering them. we all have to start somewhere with everything in life. No, you can keep your existing Windows programs and files and put Linux on your computer and when you start your computer, you can choose which one you want to boot into. The program you use is called WINE for Linux at www.winehq.com it allows you to access your Windows files from your Linux operating system and you can in most cases install Windows only programs with WINE on your Linux side. Does that make sense? In essence, you can completely avoid having to use MS. The features that are available in Linux are far superior in quality i.e. no crashing, NO REBOOTING!!, few if no hangs. The list goes on and on. I could sit and talk about how great it is for hours. But the easiest thing to do would be to download and try it. For Mandrake Linux, it allows you to download the full thing and run it off of cd to try it out and see if it's something you like. Let me tell you guys that if you dont like some of the monopolistic practices of MS then this is the way to go. For me it's a matter of principle that I use it.
feel free to U2U me if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the advice deep. I just have the basic McAfee Anti-virus, dont know how good it is. Just a couple of minutes ago, I received another 122k email from the same address as yesterday's blank email. You said to open its properties before opening the mail. What am I looking for? Thanks again.

Most likely, it's your ISP's REAL virus checker munching away at a nasty virus. I get those sometimes. The person on the other end is afflicted with something like the ILoveYou viurs. I generally email their ISP and say they've got problems.

My real email's at spamcop.net. Catches all the viruses, 99.999% of the spam (and very few spammers are stupid enough to hit a spamcop address.)

Thanks for all the useful info. I was wondering if Grommer heard this story of an email scam targeting the Linux system he was telling about. I just wanted you to be aware of this, if you aren't already.

great link. Yeah, I have heard that story. However, the Sendmail program is something that most likely a home user will NEVER have a need for unless they're planning on setting up their own mailsever. The vulnerabilty was minimal at best and I imagine there's already a fix out for it. Exploitations like this do not occur often and when they do it seems MS and businesses affiliated with them love to cry about it for days on end. Conspiracy? perhaps..lol, just my two cents. My question is to you...how often do you hear of a Linux exploitation compared to a Microsoft exploitation? It seems daily there's an vulnerability found in something. Someone once said, if you cant fix a problem in Linux, then you have the wrong problem. It seems to be true. Try a copy of it off of the cd, no installations at all, and you can see what it's like
