A "telling blow" could either be an economic one, a move that hurts the dollar, or it could be a show of force to appease the domestic audience. This show of force could be anything from display of advanced Iranian weaponry such as a latest missile or an aircraft , or it could even be related to Iran's nuclear program. A-Jad could detonate a nuke in desert for domestic audience to cheer and then say that "Imperialist" powers like USA and Israel tried to threaten Iran and hence we have developed a credible nuclear deterrent capability. In such a scenario, Iran would be the only nation to match Israel in mid-east when it comes to nuclear deterrence.

Of course it is also possible that this whole Feb. 11 hype may end up with a dud.

An eye for an eye. Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, awww killed in Dubai on Jan 19th. So sad, too bad. Buh Bye. The Boondock Saints got him, left pennies on his eyes and then it got serious. Now Iran, part of the Mothership, is sending baby ships to attack. heh.

Here's what I wrote on another post (couple of weeks ago in ""_"") related to the subject being discussed here. I would like to know your input if war is still possible within this year in light of the items I listed.

""There's a high probability that Israel will NOT attack Iran imho for the following reasons below unless I be can be proven wrong:

1. If USA will not back up Israel then Israel will just have signed its destruction because the retaliation from Iran and other muslim countries will be overwhelming.
2. From the looks of it the Obama admin is not fully on Israel's side - not like the past admin. The Obama admin wants to appease the muslim countries - so is doing everything to avoid confrontation.
3. The U.N will not allow it to happen since the security council are mostly against Israel. They will probably step in before any attack happens. Force Israel and Iran to make peace.
4. Iran promises that if attack - it will unleash destruction on its neighbors with the intention of dragging them in the war. If these happens, the OIL supply will be greatly affected - price will spike worldwide.
5. If Israel attacks Iran - the muslim nations (specially the extreme) will be motivated if not, be forced to unite with Iran.
6. There's no guaranty that the nuke facilities will be completely destroyed since some of them (Qum) are deep underground.
7. Russia, China and Central Americas will not allow it to happen since it threathens them also (friends of Iran).
8. Iran has enough arsenal - new ones - that it will be impossible to hit or stop them all.
9. If this war starts - the stability of the region will impact the rest of the world - possible economic collapse.
10. If this war starts who is able to stop it - is there a guaranty that nuclear weapons in one form or another will nor be used?
11. Will the U.S/ allies have the stomach and stamina nd most of all money to strart another war - on top of Irag/Afganistan/War on terror?
12. Will the world able to afford this kind of war in a middle of a worsening economic chaos?
13. More but these are just the immediate effects if Iran is attacked.""

Expanding further: Israel will not attack Iran (at least not within this year) to take advantage of the new front that opened a couple of months ago:

""Regime change - if the protesters inside Iran are succesful in toppling the regime then, there's a possibilty of peace in the region. That is if the following are meet:

1. The military will side with the protesters.
2. The protest will become so violent that the world will demand a regime change.
3. The mullahs will stand down and listen to the people.

""...on the other hand if none of the things I listed above happens - Iran will become a nuclear power""

Here lies the DANGER for ALL because of this fanatism:

""the return of the madhi - a quick google will confirm this - here's one report just this last December: "Ahmadinejad reportedly claims he has documented evidence that the U.S. is blocking the return of Mahdi, the Imam believed by Muslims to be the savior.

“We have documented proof that they believe that a descendant of the prophet of Islam will raise in these parts and he will dry the roots of all injustice in the world,” Ahmadinejad said during a speech on Monday, according to Al Arabiya"- www.foxnews.com..

- history also shows Iran is goverened by fanatical leaders who are also very concerned of their existence and the corruption of their religion. So imho - this is the (logical) reason why they want the nukes. To fulfill the return of madhi. At the same time destroy Israel. Remember the shout in Europe - Islam will become dominant force in the coming years which is tied to that 12th imam/madhi they are crying for.

Once IRAN becomes a NUCLEAR POWER it will be just a matter of time before something happens but by then it will be too late! Now - this will be the time when UN will gain POWER - more on this later...

That would be hilariously awesome...Ahmadinejad promises "telling blow" and it's a dud...can anyone see Ahmadinejad losing ALL credibility with people of Iran if he doesn't deliver

Well, with all the lead up to the 11th, all the speculation and all the titillating threats from Iran, one thing is more likely to happen than another... and I believe that whatever "disclosure" Iran plans (if anything) is going to be shrugged off and ho hummed. Not much can live up to the speculation on ATS and other places... Lol.

On another note: Interesting article from Reuters... suggesting China and Russia will not support a nuclear Iran.

China determined to stop Iran getting Nukes

China has told Britain it is determined to stop Iran getting nuclear weapons, Foreign Secretary David Miliband said on Tuesday.

Russia sent its strongest signal yet on Tuesday that it could back a fourth set of U.N. sanctions over Iran's nuclear programme. But China -- one of the E3+3 powers dealing with the Iranian nuclear issue -- has argued that discussions about sanctions might make it harder to find a diplomatic solution.

Of course borrowing from another popular thread here, just one well placed nuclear device in or near Yellowstone, could provide a telling blow, and Mahmoud wouldn't have to launch anything.... Very slim, but plausible nonetheless..... yeah your right?? Not a chance, just got bored is all

Iran arrests activists before expected protests

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Iranian authorities have conducted a series of arrests against alleged opposition activists before expected protest rallies during events to mark the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, the country's top police official said Wednesday. The reported raids are part of a broad offensive by Iran's leadership to intimidate anti-government demonstrators from trying to disrupt state-backed celebrations Thursday of the 1979 overthrow of the pro-Western monarchy. Iranian authorities are desperate to show the upper hand on the most important day of the nation's political calendar. But the high-profile events — including a huge gathering in Tehran's Azadi Square and other places across Iran — offers a chance for opposition groups to make another powerful statement of their resolve.

www.google.com...

Looks like they are taking the lead in rounding up opposition before the celebration. I still say the announcement will amount to nothing. Here is another article I found interesting on the subject.

Iran’s Big Punch – A Nuclear Test?

Iran has promised a punch that will stun world powers this week to mark the 31st anniversary of the Islamic revolution. Could that punch be a nuclear test to announce Iran’s joining the world nuclear club? Over the past year, a wealth of information has come to light on Iran’s weapons program that taken as a whole point to a much more advanced state of development than is publicly acknowledge. It is now know that Iran as purchased an advanced weapon design similar to the one used by Pakistan for its first nuclear device. It is also known that the scale of the Iranian clandestine enrichment project (at underground facilities such as Qom) is much larger than thought a year ago.

Israel will take that risk. You have to understand their mindset; if Iran gets nukes it's the end of Israel anyway....so they have nothing to lose, in their mind. Also, the US doesn't have a choice - they'll have to act because if Israel goes it alone the Middle East will spiral out of their control. The US does not want to mess with Iran, but they're going to have to - so they would rather at least have some semblance of control in the matter.

Originally posted by jose112. From the looks of it the Obama admin is not fully on Israel's side - not like the past admin. The Obama admin wants to appease the muslim countries - so is doing everything to avoid confrontation.

If Obama wasn't fully behind Israel he would never have become President. And as I said, this is out of his control - Israel has the US "over a barrel"

Originally posted by jose113. The U.N will not allow it to happen since the security council are mostly against Israel. They will probably step in before any attack happens. Force Israel and Iran to make peace.

No chance I'm afraid, although it's a nice fantasy
The UN will never agree on anything because half the veto-wielding Security Council members side with Israel, and half with Iran. By the time they thrashed out a draft outline for a possible strongly worded note, the human race will have become extinct....thus rendering the matter obsolete.

Originally posted by jose114. Iran promises that if attack - it will unleash destruction on its neighbors with the intention of dragging them in the war. If these happens, the OIL supply will be greatly affected - price will spike worldwide.

Israel couldn't care any less. What good is oil if your country has just been vaporized? (their mindset, not mine)

5. If Israel attacks Iran - the muslim nations (specially the extreme) will be motivated if not, be forced to unite with Iran.

Again, Israel doesn't care of the consequences. Only the consequences of Iran going nuclear.

6. There's no guaranty that the nuke facilities will be completely destroyed since some of them (Qum) are deep underground.

That's why they're talking tactical nukes

7. Russia, China and Central Americas will not allow it to happen since it threathens them also (friends of Iran).

Same as 5

8. Iran has enough arsenal - new ones - that it will be impossible to hit or stop them all.

Probably true. Won't make a difference though.

9. If this war starts - the stability of the region will impact the rest of the world - possible economic collapse.

Again, Israel doesn't care about the rest of the world. Where was the rest of the world when they were being exterminated by the Nazi's? (their mindset, not mine)

10. If this war starts who is able to stop it - is there a guaranty that nuclear weapons in one form or another will nor be used?

True.

11. Will the U.S/ allies have the stomach and stamina nd most of all money to strart another war - on top of Irag/Afganistan/War on terror?

Yup. US air and naval power is sitting their with not much to do. We're not talking a land invasion of Iran - that would be impossible.

12. Will the world able to afford this kind of war in a middle of a worsening economic chaos?

There's nothing like a good war to take the peasants mind off money problems at home. See Argentina circa 1981

Great post - and who knows what will happen. Your questions are certainly valid though! The above is my own take on what will happen. Keep an eye out tomorrow (11th) as things could heat up fast.

Since we are ramping up for a major mission of Afghanistan, one that appears to be lacking a start date to allow the locals to flee... I've wondered if those troops are not ready to intercede at the Border with Iran if needs be!

Seems strange that these things seem to coincide.. we will have thousands of troops in battle ready mode at the time of this annoucement..

Does anyone know if this mission has started or are those troops still waiting?

In an another bizarre twist, we have successfully laid sanctions that will hinder Iran in their supposed pursuit of a nuclear weapon.

U.S. sanctions target Iran Guard Corps

The move comes as a sense of urgency over Iran's uranium enrichment has been heightened by an announcement from Tehran indicating it is stepping up its nuclear program. U.S. President Barack Obama responded this week by saying additional U.S. sanctions were being considered on Iran. Wednesday's action targets Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters, which is affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard, and Corps Gen. Rostam Qasemi, who is also the commander of the construction headquarters, described as an engineering arm that serves to generate income for the corps.

All they have to do to win a war against America is just to delay them for another few years. I read on Aljzeera that the suicide rate in the American army is now at 16 a day. I guess killing all those innocent civilians they term terrorists are finally getting to these corporate killers ( killing for profit, coz war is big business just ask bush and cheney)

But lets do the math 16 a day, thats roughly 300 a month, 3600 a year all at their own hands. Not to mention the morale thats going to hell. Plus how many wars can the Americans fight at one time? Plus if the financial doo doo really hits the fan back home what then? Is it nuke time then?

The loss of any life is really a sad fact but I struggle to find sympathy for people who think that killing is ok when it is sanctioned by a Government. I would rather them all kill themselves than kill one innocent civillian. We all know who really suffers the most from wars and its not the people fighting it but the people who witness this barbaric act of self destruction.

But what really gets to me is the damn hypocrisy, you cant have a nuclear program but please ignore the 1000+ nukes we have and dont even try to enrich uranium to the amount allowed by the treaties we signed, because its either crippling sanctions or .....you got it war time . And o not to mention the billions of dollars of arms we just give to Israel, your natural enemy. A country which is systematically starving a whole nation and denying them the very things they need to survive. Americans all had their mouths full when South Africa had a policy of seperate development (yes thats what apartheid means ) but when Israel expels all the palestinians, take all their food and water and enforces a blockade that denies even ambulances the right to deliver patients to hospital, what do you do? Give them some more billions of dollars, never mind the fact that your country is broke. Dont worry we`ll just get the fed to print some more. Theres plenty more fiat money where that came from. O and if you are wondering where I get my facts from. I live in my South Africa so I know all about apartheid. While getting my law degree i also took a course called International Humanitarian Law (also known as the law of war) where we learned exactly what terrorism is ( according to the UN its a word thrown around to describe anyone you want to paint as bad so that you can justify your violence ) also how illegal the Iraq war was and how devastating and evil the Gaza blockade is.

So who must we really fear? Iran or America. I realise that most people on here are American which means in a couple of hours ill probably be the most hated person on this site. But I really dont care! if Americans would get of their Mcdonalds larded, TV watching asses and did something about their unbelievably screwed up government then I wouldnt have to deal with your Country trying to run the world. Its because of your government that I cant grow and use a natural remedy thats cheaper, less dangerous and far more pleasant than the phamaceutically concocted drugs that kill my livers and kidneys plus cost an arm and a leg.

You want to know how to stop your government? You want a revolution? Here`s an idea: arm the homeless, the hungry and the disenfranchised and youve got a big enough army that will be willing to die for this righteous cause, because life is not really worth living when your plate is a dumpster, and your home a box.

I didnt mean to turn this into an America bashing post, but I couldnt help myself sorry, you see I cant smoke my medicine and my osteoarthrosis is killing me so I havent been able to sleep and I guess im really grumpy. And why is that? Because America thinks it is their duty to police the globe.
Fthat, im done.

Guess I can sit back and watch the hate mail role in. Whats that guys signature? "Home of the free land of the brave, yeah right more like home of the sheep, land of the slave" Right on.
