You can always go the way of the Mormon, maybe they are the true religion. Considering Jesus was more likely to have been born in the summer. I don't really practice the holiday, but I would if I had a kid.

I never said the tree was being worshiped.

What the point I was making is, that it represents the opposite of what the Bible says.

And this was shown in my OP, with scripture. It relates to idolatry, however it is clear that the idol being worshiped is the Self - Consumerism - Greed.

And do not worry guys you did not derail anything, the post Chem made was surely relevant and pertains to the discussion just fine.

All of this stuff connects together.

Also I just finished watching the video I linked in the 2nd post that was shared in another thread last week. It is very awesome, and I again highly suggest you guys check it out. It's worth the time.

Idols are prohibited not the material used to make them. Stone was also used to fashion idols, is it likewise prohibited?

...And as to the date of the birth of Christ, it is not as cut and dry as many would like to have it. Most just assume that the date was issued by the pope in order to bring in pagans but many do not know that Pope Julius was asked by Bishop Cyril of Jerusalem to ascertain the date of Christs birth using information "from the census documents brought by Titus to Rome." (from the chronicle of John of Nikiu).

These documents are referenced several times in early church writings even though they appear to be lost to us today.

Sorry, I replied before seeing your qualifier. However, the original point still stands that idols are worshiped and the tree is not.

I could agree with the worshiping of greed, however, that is not the fault of the tree, it is the fault of the parents. A Christian could have a tree and celebrate Christ all on the same day.

Well, yes and no. I think yes because they fit the bill of that description, but then I say no because they are decorative and not an "idol."

Throughout history the tree has been thought of as sacred by certain societies,,

the evergreen could be looked at as symbolic of eternal life,

There is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil , and the trees for the healing of the nations,

And the Lord God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." (Genesis 3:22)

On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

A Christmas tree is a good thing.

Naked white guys bleeding on crosses are idols.

Robed white ladies call Holy Mother are idols.

Naked white-bearded old men on ceilings of chapels are idols.

Not all statues are idols, I don't know anyone that thinks the statue has any special powers. They are reminders, a representation.

For the customs of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.

Craftsmen means idol makers and they most often worked with wood, the wood was plated with precious metals.

GREAT POINT! Since the trees are not shaped with a chisel, this basically debunks this entire thread. Good read.

I disagree to a extent.

Replace the word "chisel" with "shears". There you go. It is shaped with shears. You know to cut off some of the excess and make it easier to decorate.

I think you are just clinging to the custom and trying to defend it. That is fine, but I think you are jumping the gun by claiming "debunked!" so hastily.

Keep in mind this is a English translation as well, that has been derived from other languages.

But I do understand the point you are trying to make.

Is there?

All kids I know during Christmas become quite greedy and lust for these "presents" since they usually feel they are Entitled to them.

And look at the consumer industry that it has spawned these days, how people will fight mercilessly over who gets hot items at the stores.

I could go on and on man. We have been deceived, clearly.

Hi muzzleflash/
Christmas presents are given to children and the like because of the occasion of ''Christ is born''...the three Magi came to see the Christ child and presented Him with gifts.
“And they brought Him gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh” (Matt. 2:11).

Firstly, they brought gold – the most precious metal. But King David says that God’s Word is more precious and more desirable than precious gold....

Secondly, they brought frankincense. This is a kind of fragrant incense which by God’s command was used in the Old Testament tabernacle and in the temple. It has a very pleasant fragrance; rising to the heavens like clouds, it serves as a gift of thanksgiving, pleasing to God.......

Finally, the Wise men brought myrrh. Like frankincense, it is obtained from trees growing mostly in Arabia. To obtain it, the tree bark is cut and from it comes an aromatic sap that is used as part of the fragrant oil with which kings and high priests were anointed. The word myrrh means bitterness or sorrow.....READ MORE~HERE

Children and Adults alike act this way because of the way the world has become....It is GREED that rules and not Charity!
From Acts 20:35....

''I have shewed you all things,
how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak,
and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus,
how he said,
It is more blessed to give than to receive.''
We sometimes interpret the Word of God(Bible) in many ways...sometimes intentionally and sometimes unitentially!

Coming upon the Ethiopian as he read the Old Testament in his chariot, Philip the Apostle asked him....
"Understandest thou what thou readest?"
And the Ethiopian answered,
"How can I, unless some man should guide me?" (Acts 8:30-31)...are we not all like the Ethiopian?
Or are we too proud ?

Like another member here in this thread said ''We do not worship the Christmas tree'',waiting for some miraculous occurance!

As a Christian, I hate to say this, but the Christmas tree is rooted in pagan worship. It goes all the way back to the Tower of Babel,Nimrod, Seramis, and Tamuz... think I spelled them right. Anyway, Nimrod demanded that the people worship him. He died and his wife,Seramis, decided to enforce his deityhood. She, out of wedlock, had a son...she claimed she was a virgin, and the son was Tamuz, the reincarnated Nimrod. She claimed she was the goddess of fertility, later personified by Ashtoroth, Ishtar(Easter), Isis, and so on. Tamuz was the reincarnation of Nimrod. Nimrod later was personified by Baal, Baalam, Molech.
The symbology of a tree is fertility...everliving....a green cedar, stays green even after cutting...thats why Jeremiah and other prophets and righteous kings of Israel sought to desrtoy the "groves" on the tops of hills...sites of pagan orgies...which sorely tempted the Israelites. The star atop is Nimrod. The tree is adorned with balls as symbols of testes or male fertility. The female equivilant is the wreath. Tree = phallus, wreath=womb or vagina. The holly is representative of male and female...hollys have both...female has red balls and are fertile...thus the use.
Worshippers would bring sacrifices decorated and lay them at the base of the tree....starting to sound familiar. As for sacrifices, small children or infants were sacrificed and referenced often in the OT of Bible as sacrfices to Baal or Molech... "passing the children through the fires of Molech." This is where we get the Yule Log...in Chaldean, the Youth Log or symbolic of young child. As a symbol of ressurection and reincarnation...the night before the end of the winter solstice, the log would be burned. Then, with the coming new year and lengthening of the days restarted or reborn...the log now was a fertile tree...the tree of Nimrod... it was all tied to Sun(Nimrod) worship and the rebirth of the sun..thus we have it affixed to what is now dec.25...look at any almanac. The days get shorter until about the 22nd, then 23rd-24th they are stable and short, then on the 25th the days start to lengthen again.
Long story short, Constantine as Ceasar acheived a military victory(in his mind) from the Christian God. In honor, he sanctioned Christianity. In order to get the compliance of so many diverse and pagan beliefs, he did a little mixing of Holy Days and holidays. Thus, Christian beliefs mixed with sun worship and Mitreya and the rebirth of all on Dec.25...and BAM... you have Christmas.

Oh yeah, forgot...worship of Saturn or Saturnalia is also included. During Saturnalia, people would fill the streets and make merry...going from door to door exchanging gifts, singing, about the same time as the winter solstice...dec.24.
Easter is a pagan fertility rite from Babylon. To celebrate the renewed fertility of spring and the new lunar cycle-full moon, the people would go down to the Euphrates River and with baskets, look for a golden egg(symbol fertility) hidden among many real decorated eggs. The man in the moon when full, can also be seen as a rabbit( the lips of the man are the ears of the rabbit), rabbits are of course famous symbols of fertility and reproduction. this is how the rabbit and easter(Ishtar-fertility goddess) eggs came to be. This is why Easter as a Christian holiday moves and is tied to the lunar cycles. If it was based on the sacrifice of Christ and the cross, it would be more apptly attached to Passover and the Jewish calender. Wonder why a Jewish/Christian Messiah's death and ressurection would have a traditional meal of Easter ham?
Don't forget the Maypole...pagan too. On the playground, a boy and girl are tied to a pole as others go around the pole in circles with ribbons tying them to the pole...in ancient times, it was more like fertility rites..ie orgies that played out around that Maypole...which again are referred to in the Bible.
Knowing that, what do you think are the origins of kissing under the mistletoe at Xmas?

A Christmas Tree is not a graven idol. The star atop represents the Star of Bethlehem, not a pagan deity.

The Bethlehem star is not a sign from God. If you read the account in Matthew chapter 2 you will notice the star's primary purpose was to reveal Jesus' birth place to evil King Herod. King Harod wanted the future king of the Jews killed because he was jealous. The star was a Foo Fighter within earth's atmosphere. This kind of star was seen during WWII. A number of them chased Nazi and Allied air craft at incredible speeds.

Verse 12: And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
www.biblegateway.com...

If the star was a messenger of God it would not have led the Magi to Herod. God had to intervene by way of a dream.

The first sightings occurred in November 1944, when pilots flying over Germany by night reported seeing fast-moving round glowing objects following their aircraft. The objects were variously described as fiery, and glowing red, white, or orange. Some pilots described them as resembling Christmas tree lights and reported that they seemed to toy with the aircraft, making wild turns before simply vanishing.
en.wikipedia.org...

These objects are described as fire balls flying in the sky. From the ground one might mistake one as a star if it was stationary. However, the one during Jesus time moved around just like these Foo Fighters. People have been seeing these UFOs for thousands of years.

The Christmas tree is a phallic symbol. Balls and garnitures around the tree symbolize sperm released from the penis. It is all about fertility.

Nice thread. Already gone, you beat me to it. I found a link that will add to this topic. About nimrod and his mother that was his wife. ewww
bibletools.org... Oh, and if we worship the tree or not, is irrelevant. The fact that we are so blind to the history and that satan has chipped away our concern for such things is really the point. Not saying don't have a Christmas tree, or paint easter eggs, just be aware of the origin, and spread the knowledge.

Wow people don't understand that God doesn't give a damn whether you pray to the tree or not, the act of setting up the tree in your home and keeping it there represents Nimrod's penis, just like Obelisks is a form of worship whether you think so or not.

You think God is perfectly fine with you setting up Nimrods penis in your house, but as long as your not praying to it, it's alright?

Almost all Christians break laws from the Bible every day so I guess the Christmas tree is like a drop in a bucket.

Most Christians, eat pork, eat unscaled fish, repeat hail marys, worship images like white Jesus bleeding to death on the cross and all sorts of crap that the Bible says not to do.

Anyone in the Catholic church needs to get out of that as soon as possible because it's demon worship, they have tricked everyone into thinking the Church is interpreting the Bible correctly but they are purposely tricking you into doing demonic crap because most people are too stupid to read the Bible on their own.

The Vatican was hi-jacked from the real Israelites when they went down in the middle ages and then changed up into a big demonic pile of crap.
