Explanation: S&F!

I knew my Thread on TOPIC: Amish inspired, Volcano/Quake powered, Space launch systems! would one day become useful!

Personal Disclosure: Sure it won't safely launch a human, but it could do the heavy lifting into orbit of massively large and bulky cargo etc.
Ares V on the cheap anyone?

Edited gramma fail. Sigh :shk:

Oh that's just great! I would rather give money to space exploration than greedy corporations and thieving banks!

We need to go to the moon again, unless he knows why we really havent been back...imo we were told to get off of it and never come back.

What if they scrapped the ARES project and NASA budget, and started to pour all that money into the Naval Space Command...This is all theory...I believe that back in the 50's and early 60's all the research was done by the NSC and when is was perfected they launched the NASA program for the public..I think that the NSC had a base on the moon before they started launching the APOLLO's..When NASA finally released space exploration and lunar landing, The Naval Space Command was already busy sending manned mission's to Mars and building a Mars base...i just feel that the amount oif time that the U.S. had been in space that they have explored the moon, mars and maybe even other planets t so much that they can finally sit back and let these other countries play catch up...come on now how long have we been to and on the moon all of a sudden the indian's send something to the moon and they claim water..Now NASA all of a sudden sends this thing up there and prove's water on the moon..The NSC and NASA knew about this water since the late 50's and 60's...

What baffle's me is that we can get all these crystal clear images of the moon and mars...How come there are no crystal clear images of the cyndonia region of mars...what are they hiding over there?????

Not surprising to me. No race hustle money in space.

Just for the record the Agustine commission mentioned in a previous post did not recommend for NASA to abandon their plans to return to yhe Moon. In fact it outlined several different paths with each having the ultimate goal of reaching Mars. Going back to the Moon was part of every scenario.

The biggest thing the Augustine commission recommended was that we would need an increase in NASA's budget or else a manned space program worth having wouldn't be possible. I guess Obama thought that we just shouldn't have a manned space program.

While I've been a life-long proponent of space exploration and colonization, I had to shake my head when the Bush plan came out. It was described as 'Apollo on steroids' and I remember thinking at the time, 'is this the best they could come up with 40 years after Apollo?'

So I'm not upset that this particular plan got axed but I will be upset if nothing better replaces it.

Marshall Savage wrote a wonderfully inspiring book called the Millenium Project: How to Colonize the Galaxy in Eight Easy Steps. In spite of the cheezy title, it's a very well written book, that demonstrates, how we can solve ALL of our environmental, economic and resource problems by exploiting the almost unlimited resources that are in the moon, the asteroids and on Mars. He has provided the vision, now all we need is the will to make it happen. NASA's lack of vision and Congress having their head up their ass means the last 40 years have been wasted but it's not too late to start down this path.

The Earth has been called the Cradle of Humanity. I submit that it now time that we leave the cradle. Maybe we as a species need to move out from the Earth in order to broaden our attitudes towards each other and mature as a species.

As a final comment, it's been estimated that ALL of the technology that we take for granted today, is a direct result of the US space program and the boost it gave to technology research along with spinoff benefits. So spending money (wisely) on space is NOT a waste.

NASA is going to have to do the Un American thing of finding ways to run its programs on an oily rag . Taking a leaf out of the Russians book and taking up space tourists would be a good revenue gaining excise . Taking up three or four space tourists a year at twenty million a pop would earn NASA some serious change .
