It doesn't matter if we get rid of currency. The things people produce and the services people render would become the new defacto currency...
...for example, you may grow wheat that I want to eat, but you also need to get your tractor fixed to grow more wheat. Luckily, I can fix your
tractor. So I fix your tractor in exchange for wheat.
Pretty soon, this bartering for goods and services will become just the same as using currency -- the people who can grow the most wheat and the
people who are really good at fixing tractors will become the most powerful.
