The false rumors of a tsunami actually, which was a hoax to make scared citizens drop their belongings and run, and it worked. It was a hoax made up by the same people who are currently looting and desecrating dead bodies in a desperate situation.

And as it happened, it was a few reporters who figured that out right away, and tried to relay that to the terrified citizens.

Yes, sadly the first thing the US did was to make sure that UN and US personnel in the Island was accounted for, since yesterday US personnel were evacuated to Guantanamo if needed medical assistance.

While this sound cruel because many Haitians are dying, let not forget that is certain protocol been followed.

Now anybody that has access or are near the Airport with medical needs were also taken care.

So I guess is certain things that doesn't make sense to us but it does to those that runs the aid efforts.

You're right marg6043. I dislike your government, but that has nothing to do with i posted.

Anyway, i saw a video now that is said to come from a security camera at Port-au-Prince just when the earthquake happened:

The aid that is been pouring from all over the world is incredible, but sadly they are just sitting down at the airport waiting for news of how they will be reaching the devastated area

The mian roads seems to be blocked and equipment needs to be taken from the airport to those areas to clear a pass way for the aid to be moved around.

It is not easy task when Haiti has not way to supply the equipment and all that has to come from out side.

But I am sure that by the time this task is taken the rescue and movement of aid is going to be fast, I only hope all that poor people in desperation do not fall into chaos and start rioting.

Just got a new update. My sister-in-law was able to use a satellite phone to get a very short call out of Jacmel. She is okay (and with the continued quakes will hopefully remain that way), but Flo Mcgarrell, the director of FOSAJ, died when the "Peace of Mind" hotel collapsed and he was trapped inside. My sis-in-law is working and doing everything possible to help right now. Sis-in-law called Flo's parents who got in touch with my mother and father-in-law. She could only make the one call and wanted to make it to Flo's mom to let her know and she knew that Flo's mom would pass the info to my husband's mom.

Right now that is the most current information I have. Please keep my sister in your thoughts for her continued safety and loss of one of her best friends.

Take care,
Cindi

Thank you so much everyone! I really can't tell you all how much it means to me.

The info that RAMHaiti posted came from my sister's phone call that she was able to get out and that was given to one of her friend's by Flo's mom.

One of the biggest problems for Jacmel right now is that they aren't getting much, if any, coverage and not getting any of the help and aid that PauP is getting. I haven't had the TV on and am not watching the coverage, so they could be getting some, but word from people watching is that they aren't. One of Sue and Flo's friends called the state department number for people looking for missing Americans and the person who answered the phone didn't even know what Jacmel is. Hadn't ever heard of it. Not everyone there is unaware of Jacmel, because last night/early this morning my m-i-l was able to get through to them and had a 3-way conference call with herself, Flo's mom, and the task force in Haiti, but too many aren't aware of Jacmel and their need for help.

Jacmel was as devastated as PauP and needs as much help. Right now the news from people on the ground is that they aren't getting it and it doesn't appear to be coming. That worries me so much.

Thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers. Kinda only just barely holding it together here.
Take care,
Cindi

It was only a matter of time before we saw this. I hope it's not one of the missing students.

From CNN international

11:06 a.m. -- The State Department confirmed the first U.S. fatality from the Haiti earthquake, but the victim was not identified because family had not been notified.
