I agree basic is about instilling team work. However this goes out the window once your placed with your unit.You learn quickly you are responsible for your actions commanders no longer hold your hand. Once placed in a unit individuality is the key to success.You have to keep your self in line avoid th military traps.You are expected to be self sufficient and if need be have the ability and know how to handle situations without others help. A great example of this is ranger school we were tested on our abilities not the group.

If you only leave the army a private one of the reasons will be lack of self discipline and not realizing when you need to stand out as an individual.
