Well, first you'd have to assess where your view of the USA comes from... Is it just the media? Just talking on boards? Or have you actually been here, and spent some time trying to find out what we are all about? All that said, the majority of Americans can't understand the French either (and the average American has little understanding of current world events and political stances, due to our media's fascination with celebrities over real news)

So, I'll answer one by one.

1) Bush: Yes, most of think he is a moron. The election was close, in fact, there is a large majority that believes that Gore actually won, but there was a voting scandal, etc. C'mon, these were our choices...Bush and Gore, sounds like a snuff film. We didn't even have a "lesser" of two evils...more of an eeny-meeny-miney-moe...

2) Fight against NWO: Most Americans have NO idea about the NWO, other than it being a term coined in Bush speeches. Americans on this board are an exception, not the rule.

3) Peace: We aren't the ones harboring and promoting terrorism throughout the world. We simply see ourselves as the world policemen, because nobody else seems to want the job. If America really was this "out for oil" monster it's made out to be, we would have simply taken countries like Iraq, Venezuela, etc. decades ago, and carved an empire for ourselves. We certainly were and are still capable of such a thing, but the very fact that we haven't and don't intend to, certainly speaks of a nation wanting peace, not conquering imperialsm...

4) Home of the Slaves?: Hardly. I doubt you would have seen the kind of courage exhibited on that ill-fated Philladelphia flight (the one that didn't hit a target on 9/11) elsewhere...and that's just an example of what we're made of... That's bravery, as well as the firemen and policemen who risked their lives (and gave them) trying to help others in the WTC...

Maybe now, you understand us a little bit better?

And, we have forgiven many, many debts, and given out millions in aid...far more than all of Europe combined, so that's a moot arguement.

i have to add my two cents in here just because i think you guys are taking it a little hard on nans. now nans u gotta learn to express your opinion without offending people. now i've talked with many people from all over the world, i've been to new york, boston, new jersey, conneticut and florida. i've talked to people from various states such as texas, califronia and arizona as well as many other states. i've also talked to americans who have come up here to canada for vacation. now i dont have a problem with the american people. it just bugs me that there are a large number of uneducated americans who try to speak their opinion.

now every country has those types of people. its fewer here in canada becasue the uneducated ones tend to be embarassed and just keep quite, even the dumb people here are pretty educated on the united states. theres so many americans who dont know # about canada i mean we're neighbours for god sakes i think you should take some time to at least realize that coming to canada in the middle of july and looking to ski is gonna get you laughed at.

every country has outspoken idiots (sorry nans but u fall into this category) but the percentage of americans is ridiculous. another problem with america is they set double standards. they say everyone else has to disarm their nukes but they can keep theres "just in case". just look at what bill clinton did to argentina one of the biggest nuclear powper plant suppliers int he world went down there took all their # and closed the plant. argentina goes bankrupt and america says oh we'll save you.

now i know the government doesnt always represent the people. but ti seems the only smart americans i can seem to find are on boards like these.
