Thank you for your link for live quakes. Im quite new to all this, but it is fast becoming a passion/addiction of mine!

I am starting to familirise myself with quake patterns and so on. I do think that we are in for another big one very soon, just a feeling.

Another one bites the dust, another one bites the dust, and another one, and another one, and another one bites the dust.

sorry but that is it. You are ensnared, your life will never be the same. You can try and leave, threaten, kick, scream and holler but all to no avail.

Soon you will succumb to Advanced Quake and Volcano Watcher Syndrome, and when AQVWS gets you then you are dome for. Someone will say "Did you see about blah blah blah", and you will reply "is it about earthquakes or volcanoes?" they will say "No, why?". You will say never mind and your eyes will glaze over and attention will wander until some mentions "seismo" or "gps" or "magma" when you will be instantly attentive and all ears.

So having mentioned GPS this brings me to the subject of the post which was to say that I have found a fairly current source of GPS data for Eyja region. Link to it here

Comments are currently open on that page so you can add any links to working current GPS information. I will be adding Yellowstone shortly, but no harm if you add inks yourselves.

A link to the page is also in the side links of the page in my signature.

Hey if you had to make an educated guess, where and when would the next earthquake above magnitude 8 occur?

Well I am not in the earthquake prediction business but I would guess somewhere on the northern edge of the ring of fire (Alaska/Kuril/Kamchatcka or possibly Japan)

Here is a list of 8+ quakes since 1900 which makes interesting reading.

Edit: Ah, apologies - forgot the when. Jan/Feb next year - no idea really.

Hahaha, i'm affraid to inform you that it has already started!! My poor partner gets 'listen to this about this volcano or you'll never guess where had an earthquake today' As soon as he walks through the door every night!

The poor man thinks i'm going crazy!! I must admit that from a very young age I had a keen interest in volcanoes and anything to do with mother nature. Its not till now that I can feed my addiction even more by coming to ATS and reading through the amazing amounts of information that yourself and others put into this thread and others!

My hat goes off to you all, and I hope that one day I to can contribute to these threads like you all do.

Also thank you for the Gee link TrueAmerican. Much greatful!

Just noticed that that link for the GPS is screwed up. It points at USGS Mag 8.

Trying to find it again now.

Try this one:

A thread was started on ATS about quakes worldwide happening all at the same time - around 7am US time. They linked several graphs for US states. I would assume there is a glitch - do you have any info on this?

Hi crazydaisy. No it was not quakes all around the US all happening at the same time, but one quake which showed on all the recorders. I have not had time to have a look at it yet, but I did look at the page.

Unfortunately some do not realise that a bigger quake will show on many records. It is only the smaller ones that show on the one.

Nothing to worry about.

Check the 3.2 mag outside of Markleeville,CA. it looks to be at that timeframe, but doesn't seem large enough to spike the graphs all the way to the east coast....

Thank you and I understand what your saying. If you get to look at the quake that showed up please let us know! I feel so much better now!

Well, I went ahead and started a thread about the 'worldwide quake'
to try and head off the fearmongering.

It obviously had to be one deep quake. There is only one today:

MAP 5.3 2010/11/02 18:10:13 47.087 146.724 347.7 NORTHWEST OF THE KURIL ISLANDS

Check out the depth. But darn it, I am horrible converting times. I'm not sure if this was early enough...but it's the only one listed (so far) that would account for it.

Anyways...I put the info on the original thread where people are once again convinced the earth is going to explode or something...but last time all our voiced of reason got burried, hence the new thread. If anyone can disprove it, please let me know so I can have my thread removed or corrected!

Hey I would just like to say that I have been watching this thread like a hawk for months now and I appreciate all the hard work and analysis that has been put into this.

I've had a bad feeling for months that a major earthquake is imminent out on the west coast, specifically southern CA (San Andreas) so it's been very helpful studying and analyzing all this data trying to make sense of things.

I just hope that there is enough warning ahead of time to get myself and my family out of harms way if this 'big one' is truly on the horizon....

I posted a link earlier to this page

notendur.hi.is...

It had GPS data on Eyja/Katla up to the 30th October. That was this morning. Now it is 404'd

Up until an hour ot two ago I could still see two of the graphics off the page, but they have now gone as well.

I originally came across this link which was entitled "GPS mælingar Jarðvísindastofnunar Háskólans " and is on the page: hraun.vedur.is...

It still is on that page, but now it does not work.

Do I smell a conspiracy? Why is the only viable source of GPS data for Katla no longer available to us all of a sudden?

Edit: By the way you can still see it in the Google cache.

If you check the UC Berkeley seismograph today, it may look a little choppy. Heard Chad Meyers on CNN say (and show) 40 foot waves along the N Cali coast.
