Ok, my current believe of 2012 is quite simple. I believe IF the Mayan's predicted the end on 12/21/2012, they would of SAID this is the end, there would of been writings and all types of evidence saying how there calendar worked and that 12/21/2012 would be the end. But there is none. And I believe MAN KIND thinks just because a calendar "ends" means the end of the world. I believe it's just going to be another false hope for the end. It's going to come and go and people are going to feel real stupid about it. People can make up so many theories and publish books and movies about this why? Because people are scared and they are going to go read these books or movies and if a book or movie tells you the worlds going to end, sadly people believe this because they can't think of the picture as a whole. The Mayans only predicted the end of there calendar that doesn't mean the world ends. Like I said if it was the end they would of said this day right here is the end. They warned other civilizations in the time about things they would of warned us. Period.

Okay second, Jessie Vantura, his 2012 ISSUE:

----------------------------------------------------------
Apocalypse 2012 – NEW!
Premiere On: Wed, January 13 at 10P
It's believed that the world is heading for disaster in 2012 and the government is preparing to save and protect the elite - while leaving the rest of us to fend for ourselves. Jesse Ventura investigates claims of top secret underground bunkers being built in places ranging from the Nevada desert to the White House, including the largest, now under construction beneath a major metropolitan airport.
----------------------------------------------------------

Now.....my thoughts are.....why are the government building these? Are they scared to? Or is it an "IF" it could happen situation?

I thought the end of the Mayan Calendar was the end of an age. Didn't the Mayan's believe that the world existed in ages and this would the end if one age and the beginning of the final one? It's hard to get any real info on what they really thought with everyone and their dog with a 2012 website pushing books and other crap.

I am always on the fence on what to believe as for the end that is presumably predicted. I know nothing personally of the bunkers that are being built, but I hear about it often. I also hear of groups of people heading to remote places that are said to be havens from such an event. The only thing I do know for sure is why would someone spend billions of dollars to build a seed bank if they weren't seriously concerned about something.

Woudln't a better question be if TPTB are secretly planning on saving the elite, why are they allowing Jesse Venture to blow the whistle on a television program?

I think the Mayans probably did document the reason their calendar ends on that particular date. The problem is a lot of the most important human knowledge throughout our time inhabiting this planet has either been destroyed, lost or just simply kept secret from us, I think the same fate became of the knowledge of the Mayan calendar and the date it ends.

The reason I find it so intriguing is that the Mayans were so intelligent and precise that there must have been a very good reason for them to end it on this specific date and not 10 days later at the end of the year.

Unfortunately we probably wont find out why until the day arrives.

Just in case the world does come to an end 3 years from now, lets try and enjoy life for the time we have left.

Because it is already checkmate so you might as well flaunt what you have in the most muddled up pool of information ever conceived: 2012

(boo!)
no not really

I, too, thought is was the end of an age. Isn't it this year on the winter solstice,... 12/21/2009.. that our sun lines up with the center of our Galaxy? I think this happens about every 26,000 years and usually the sun is one degree above or below the center. Correct me if I am wrong.

Maybe a better question is why the Mayan calendar starts on 11 Aug 3114 BC when the earliest Mayan settlements date to around 1800 BC. It would make more sense to start a calendar based on a significant event, like the birth of the empire or the first king, religious figure, etc. But they chose to start their calendar almost 2000 years before they were around based on (we assume) stellar alignments. It seems they thought that particular stellar alignment was more important than anything that occured on Earth since, and that alignment is about to occur again.

I'm tempted to go off on a rant about what I believe it all means, but I'm old and tired and I feel like a nap. Maybe if I come back here and see some interest I'll elaborate on my theories.

Thank you for sharing that, I was unaware until now. I think that makes this even more interesting!

When you have had a nice nap and are feeling fresh, I would very much like to hear your theories! I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge.

Got my curiosity going. Would be very interested in what you think. I'll come back later after you take your nap. Does it have to do with the alignment?

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why our government is spending record amounts of money with no real explanation as to how we could possibly pay it back? Or where did the missing billions that Bernanke couldn’t explain actually end up. Is he hiding fraud or is he protecting a “National Secret”? Why did the President recently declare a national emergency giving him the power to suspend the constitution due to the “swine flu epidemic” which still hasn’t produced the epidemic? What happened in the early 80s that changed our military objectives? Have you noticed an increase in abnormal events lately like meteors, earth changes or aerial phenomenon? Do you feel that everything is fine and nothing is out of the ordinary?

Was hoping to see Victor's thoughts on the Galactic center alignment of 2012 this morning.
I know that scientists know a lot about the past. I am curious to know if there is any information on what they thought happened at the last alignment 26,000 year ago.

I appreciate the interest. Sorry I didn't get back to this thread sooner, Christmas stuff, you know. I hope you all don't find this too disappointing. After all, this is just a load of armchair psuedo-science.

We know that at the center of the galaxy is a massive black hole, likely one of the largest in the galaxy. I remember reading about a black hole with a diameter roughly equal to Pluto's orbit. I would think the one at the center of the galaxy is at least that size. Considering how dense black holes are, that's a staggering amount of matter.

We know that black holes absorb light, but they do emit x-rays as well as strong gravitational forces. Who knows what other energies and forces they may emit? If String Theory is correct, and there are a minimum of 11 dimensions including the 3 we know. I think it's reasonable to assume that black holes emit forces and energies of which we may not be aware.

"So what?" you may ask, " We're bombarded by these energies and forces all the time, and we survive OK." True enough. Just like we are bombarded by sunlight all the time, and the Earth suffers no ill effect from it.

Further, we know that massive bodies can "bend" electromagnetic energies like light and x-rays. For instance, we can see a star behind the the sun because the sun can bend light rays around itself.

Now, here's the tricky part. The Mayan calendar begins and ends when the sun is positioned directly between the black hole at center of the galaxy and the Earth. Ordinarily, the Earth gets a certain cross-section of radiation from the black hole. But when the sun is directly in front of the black hole, it will bend the radiation around itself and focus it directly on the Earth. Then, the radiation we get won't be simply a factor of the Earth's cross section, but the sun's cross section. Essentially, the sun will act like a magnifyng glass, focusing the x-rays and whatever other radiation on the Earth.

It would have been easier to describe this with some diagrams, but I hope I've explained this well enough. Maybe a mental image would help. Imagine if the moon was a large magnifying glass. During a solar eclipse, it would be able to focus the sunlight that hits the US into a spot the size of a city. Now imagine a magnifying glass the size of the sun focusing x-rays on the earth. Can't be good.

No offense to your "theory" but where did you read this out of? And there is no telling what 2012 is gonna do, but honestly I don't see the sun doing that. Since...I'm gonna ask what evidence shows this?

No offense taken, and I wouldn't call it a theory. It's just some random speculation on my part, nothing backing it up. It's just that with different sources pointing to the significance of he alignment, I tried to think of what could possibly happen, given my limited knowledge of astronomy and celestial mechanics. We know about the black hole, we know about x-rays, we know about the gravity lens effect, but there would need to be some solid math done to calculate the effect, if any, it would have on the Earth. Maybe I've just watched too much Star Trek in my time.

I believe something will happen at or near the alignment. I don't know what or why, and I'm ususally not the "blind faith" sort of guy, but a lot of small things seem to point in the same direction. The Mayan calendar, Nostradamus, and others point to the alignment. And the actions of the US government seem to indicate that they are in a hurry to accomplish a lot of things very quickly, but their not too concerned about the long range implications of their actions.

Its the 5th sun, and its more than a yearly calendar.
The knowledge that they had THEN, was not rediscovered by all of our current smart people till not that long ago.
Its a subject that demands your own in depth study.
