The first officer first spotted this phenomena during walkaround, must have been around 07:55 local time.

It came apparently from north-easterly direction and lighted up the sky pretty good for a while.

The airport where we were is on the other side of the island from where the picture was taken.

The experts here seems to be fairly convinced that it was a Russian rocket.

Maybe it´s EISCAT ? Could someone from Norway maybe verify EISCAT's exact location? Should be in or around Tromsö, norway..

I was gonna post this story earlier today, but I`m at work so didnt get the time.

I`ts very interesting, they still havent found out what it is..

I wish I had seen this, but unforenatly I`m to fare south in Norway

Nope, and no NOTAMs was published for any rocket launch on the Norwegian mainland, North Sweden and Finland today.

This is a phenomanom that I have wrote about in my recent book, I was plagued by these weird reoccuring dreams of objects like this in the pictures and videos shown...

There is something like this in a Nasa STS video, I will have to try and find it, its almost the same except no spirals.

that spiral is TOO perfect - i just can't imagine it being caused by a rocket exploding...so many have already failed without such spectacular effects.

i immediately was reminded of Bruce Gernon's strange account flying his airplane over the Bermuda Triangle some 20 years ago.

I had a feeling that had to be a long exposure.

I have seen similar blue glowing trails from rocket launches from vandenberg AFB on the coast of Calif and I live at China Lake Calif about 150 miles away in the desert.

As for the spiral cloud I have no idea what type of action would cause it except light reflection off the clouds after the sound waves from the missile had disturbed them.

could be something to do with that weather control thingamagig they have going on in Alaska... Starts with an H I think.

So, did we find out what it is yet? Those videos are quite breathtaking. The timing of this whole thing really fits in with other weird happenings in my life, like with dreams I've been having and messages that I get within in a meditative state of mind.

If it was taken with long shutter speed is there any way of knowing what it would have looked like as a normal shot?

I suppose that explains the almost fake-looking 'spirals'.
