For all of us that are lovers of Quantum Physics, i present to you OUR GOD!!!!
I can diss-spell one line of thinking here and that is that this is a missile or a rocket. I work in the ballistics industry, make rockets and missiles, well i dont make them i sell them but that is not caused by any rocket or missile.
To me this looks like a quantum mechanical event, seriously, look at how uniformed the circling patterns are. Whatever it is its disrupting ALL the matter around it.
VERY COOL!!!!!!!

It also could be related to this.

While most Canadian students are preparing to face another school year, some are also preparing for takeoff. Four Canadian students chosen from a pool of applicants from the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and the University of Saskatchewan will attend a week-long intensive course offered by the University of Oslo from November 9-13, 2009 in sounding rockets and payload instrument design.

They’ll also launch their “small payloads,” a term which refers to a sounding rocket that isn’t as big as a full satellite, at the Andoya Rocket Range on an island in northern Norway.

It probably is.

I am sorry ... I am not buying into the "exploding rocket" story just yet.

Actually, I am a little surprised, if not disappointed at some posters who, once given an "explanation", simply give up and say things like "solved" ... or "nothing to see here - move along".

Since when do ATS'ers accept the first explanation offered - even if it does sound plausible?!

As I've said before, I don't know what it is but I've got this niggling feeling that this is much bigger than the "exploding rocket" story.

I agree, cant people do a little more research into something before throwing out the most easy and obvious "answers"...that they themselves are not even 100% sure are right?...rockets or missiles...i doubt it...if so wouldnt you be able to hear the sound of it on the vids??...im surprised i havent seen the "Chinese Lantern" explanation yet

WTF! If I could possibly make a rocket launch look like this, I would be a rich sumbch! I could be decorating the skies for weddings, etc(for very wealthy people of course). I don't know what it is, but I don't buy the 'failed rocket theory'.

ok, I captured one frame from the video and enhanced it a little bit:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/366449a92506.jpg[/atsimg]

it does look like a 'cloudy' trail after all (symmetry on the photos was result of a long exposure)

watch the videos in thread

cheers

So because you sell missiles (read=fireworks) you are the authority on fuel venting from a rocket and making it spiral out of control? I am sure you have seen this type of incident before...I mean whilst you were "testing" your "missiles"

Twice now I have attempted from various sources on the net to post a link on Facebook about this and it won't let me or appear after a refresh ?

Here is a UK forum discussing it

[edit on 9-12-2009 by excelents]

I have also posted a "WTF is going on and explained my links are not being displayed plain text message asking people to Google Noway spiral" and even that appears to be then deleted !

Not being paranoid it may well be a refresh problem or FB having a crap day but 3 posts ?

Well there are some excellent pictures on this one, not? And it's seen, photographed and filmed by hundreds or even thousands of Norwegians.

And yes, in the end explanation will be rather boring, probably - but right now it's still a fascinating, unexplained, mysterious appearance.

Are you saying that activation time of EISCAT corelates to the spiral event?

I have never been asked before!! lol

These guys are having some sort of rocket conference and launching stuff in Northern Norway.

Ive got a leg up on 90% of the people here as ive actually seen missile and rocket test fires, have you? So you think this is a rocket, thats fuel spun a leak, and caused it to spiral out of control??
You see that in the picture above? To those patterns looks like they are "out of control" ??
Give me a break, what is with you people, you presumably come on here everyday to find the un-explained, and as of now scientists have NO IDEA what it is. Yet the brainchilds of ATS have already cracked the mystery and its a rocket??? i find that hard to believe.

I'm sure many will discuss this for weeks or years to come. But in my experience, the simplest, most obvious explanation usually proves to be the correct one.

Failed missile launch caused strange light over northern Norway

Hey, nice photos.... at first i thought it was photoshopped because even those lamps don't look right and then i saw the videos and thought 'hmmm.... there is something there' and then i looked even closer and thought 'projection of light coming from behind those hills' but how they made the spriral spread out like that is cool....

And then i read the post above mine.......

IMHO. Seems like a fixed position, process. where it started from the outer extreme, then was directed to the center, the glow was then produced, and then finally the process was reversed, going back once again to the outer edges. Its visible and seems to start from the earth, the blue tells me its somwhere between 250 and 500 nanometers in the electromagnetic spectrum, so could this have been a new testing of
scalar waves?
My thoughts are, man made, test, observed by us but will not be revealed.

Maybe this has been answered before but I did not see it... I understood that the blue spiral came FROM the object toward the ground.

Then I see some posts where one would think the blue spiral originated from the ground ... anyone know which came first?

Well, I think it's a rocket. Next picture shows the perspective or the point of origin of the "beam" very clear.

At the bottom right of this picture is a clear vapor trail from a rocket launch. The sun is illuminating it, and it looks like any typical rocket launch until it gets a little higher, and then a "teardrop" forms and the blue trail starts, and the spiral starts, and it appears to have a shockwave emanating outward?

Very, very cool!

I am going with the rocket explanation, but with a twist. I think this is a new type of rocket that uses conventional solid fuel propulsion for the first few hundred feet, and then switches to ion drive or magnetic drive! I think this picture makes it very clear that something changed shortly after the launch!

I'm certain that the low sun and the cold atmosphere in Norway contributed to the cool effects in the photo, but I still think it was more than the typical rocket launch.
