The big dog is freaky looking, like two people from the waist down for the legs with one of them walking backwards. I find it very disturbing.
The AID is obviously cgi. Even if you can't tell from the seams or whatever, if that thing walked down the street everyone would be gawking, don't you think?

Cool vids. I would like to think that if we were ever able to created such things, we would not entirely replace our law enforcement with them. No A.I. can ever match human intuition IMHO. However for war, if each side could use these on a civilian free battlefield that would be great. Kinda like a big Rockem Sockem Robot fight to determine the fate of the world.
I joke of course.

tell you one ting - big dog isnt gonna be sneaking up on anybody making all that rackit. And they may be just a robotic mule, but even a mule can tote a 50 cal machine gun.

I'm amazed by the first video. I remember it was just about 10 or 15 short years ago that roboticists were racking their brains over how to get a robot to walk effeciently in a manner comparable to the way humans or mammals walk/run. With the "BigDog", it looks like they overcame those hurdles.

The robot in the second video (the A.I.D. robot) did NOT amaze me because it is fake (although the quality of the CGI was good). That video is a CGI animated film made by the same director and Visual Effects company that made District 9 -- Neill Blomkamp and The Embassy Visual Effects, Inc..
Here's a Link

To summarize:
1st video = amazing robot
2nd video = fake robot, but good CGI

Here is all you need to know!

It's an animated/live-action short that came out YEARS ago. It's by (or rather now owned by) a company called "The Embassy: Visual Effects".

How can people be so narrow minded before jumping to a conclusion... You can tell as soon as the video starts its CGI!

People need to research before speaking!

That video has Neil Blomkampf written all over it. I'm not convinced.

Check out his short that inspired District 9... pretty striking similarities if you ask me:

Big Dog is wicked though! =)

Not only this, but they're also designing them to feed on human remains. The politically correct term they are using is 'biomass material'.

Squads of them roving over battlefields full of dead men, women and children harvesting their bodies for the next massacre or 'military operation'...

Do any of you dare say it won't happen?

You are partially correct. But you are thinking of EATR, the robot designed by RTI. It is fuelled by biomass, but thankfully vegetable matter - not meat

Linky here

and here (where they respond to the panic about "biomass")

Panic over

Your second link is a film called "Tetra Vaal" by neills Blomkamp (the producer of "District 9"), it was one of his early short films and is what brought him to the attention of Peter Jackson.

I have no idea how to get youtube films on here, so here's the link:

Tetra Vaal

If I'm late here just let me know, but does anyone else realize that that corporation is called Boston Dynamics??? In the show Fringe on FOX the main setting is Boston and there is a corporation called "Massive Dynamics." Just stating the obvious, I thought it was really weird and interesting to post. Again, if I'm late or if someone beat me to it then I apologize. If anyone knows any info on the company I would be grateful for the share.

Nothing to fear here. Before these things get to the battle field all this AI will be turned into sex toys.

Sorry. Terrible @ pasting lnks.

Boston Dynamics is a real company that specializes in "robotic locomotion"
www.bostondynamics.com...
en.wikipedia.org...

Only the FIRST video in the OP (the video of "BigDog") is a real robot created by Boston Dynamics.

As I and others have pointed out, the SECOND video (the A.I.D. "robocop") is fake and that robot does not really exist (it's CGI).

The first vid is meerly a "pack mule" so to speak. A grunts gear is pretty heavy The second is a pure flight of fancy.

However I do see a day when robots replace soldiers or at least become "RC" if you get my drift.

When that day comes then there is a real possibility (imho) that War will become even more widespread as politicians will have no issue with sending a robot into harms way instead of a voters son or daughter.

Also I would like to note that every year childrens toy robots become more and more sophisticated. I can see a day when parents purchase "gaurd bots" to take their kids to school, prevent kidnappings etc. I can picture little Sue or Tim walking to school next to their pet "triceratops" (it can be any shape really) that sports tasers and sonic weapons should someone "cross the line".

The idea that it is basically a "pack mule" isn't the point. The point is the amazing way it moves.

Most people are used to sci-fi films that show robots moving effortlessly, and they think a walking robot may be commonplace. However, in the real world this was not possible until very recently (the past 10 years or less). Companies like Boston Dynamics are breaking new ground with robots such as BigDog -- that's why BigDog is so well-known by roboticists who are studying robot locomotion.

Think of it as a concept car. The huge concept with BigDog is the way it moves (not what it can do at the moment)

I guess by now we've realized the robocop is a hoax made by the same fellow who made District 9.
But the first one, I don't really get what the big deal is with this one. Untethered it sounds like it makes as much noise as a jet.. but the fact that it can keep its footing on solid ice is pretty cool, and the fact that it carries 200 pound payloads would be a huge help for people who have to work in very remote place but can't carry pack animals, say archaeologists working in the desert, or in the Amazon.
Seems to me, hook this puppy up to a gps, power it with solar cells and you can take heavy equipment nearly anywhere.
Very cool,
KE

Thats pretty cool but just a thought maybe we are going to get the Terminator movie ending better them than rich bankers to rule the world.

Maybe thier the beast in the Revalation maybe thats why we have to get the mark of the beast so they can track us.

Now we just have to wait for them to turn on Skynet the mastermind of it all.

i think the person that posted this should be reprimanded by ats not only is it a complete fabrication but it also creates fear, im all for the fact that there "may" be advanced robotics kept from the public but to go as far as saying "he cant believe if its real or not" tells alot about himself and especially his eyesight!!!! like c'mon!!! iv read threads on this sight for a long time, im aware of project camelot, iv read zacheriah sitchins books, i believe im informed ENOUGH for at the very least.... survival! so the fear mongering that both videos linked here have created is an insult to common sense.

yes PERHAPS there are robotics advanced beyond public perceptions
yes PERHAPS there are robots? CYBORGS within a certain military "eating flesh"????? MAYBE!!!
YOU DONT KNOW FOR CERTAIN! 100% unless you created them!

its about time ats blocked some threads on this because its either creating fear or a misconception of ideals, any one can tell the second link is a load of bull#! forgive the words but it is. the fact that the person who posted this cant EVEN tell that "its real or not" should speak volumes that if he cant tell that its real then IT SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN POSTED!!!!

if it was real do you think a highly classified military program would be on youtube??

There is enough information out there for us to know robotics are becoming ever more advanced.
As for the flesh eating bots, they may be in their infancy, but they do exist today.

www.cnn.com...

Not sure I agree with you that threads like these should be deleted by the mods though-The OP has at least learned that the video in question is CGI.Maybe a few others did too.

If the thread had been removed,no one would have learned anything, which defeats the objest of ATS I think.

You mean to tell me that they have something better than the ASIMO robot created by Honda? That's real science, I'm smelling fringe science on the second video.

Not only the second video look CGI, it also seems to be done by professionals who are in love with the Gundam Anime.

Oh, and Robots running around feeding on .. "Biomass Material"... sure, can they feed on s*** instead of human flesh? We're smarter than this...
