Well, I thought things were getting weird when I saw Boston Dynamics come up with the Big Dog for the defense department...Here's the big dog link. If someone can post these videos on this page for me, that would be great.

www.youtube.com...

Now, after viewing that, I began to think of all the implications. However, you ain't seen nothing yet. Check this out.

www.youtube.com...

Now, after viewing this...I was almost fooled into thinking that maybe it was just a test or a joke. But guess what, I don't think that it is. I have to go to class right now, but, if anyone can research this and come up with more information, I'd be happy to hear it. I can't tell if its real or not.

This could end up becoming a real threat to many civil liberties, allies, and enemies alike. This thing is based off of an A.I. engine. What if the movie "The Terminator" is prophetic??? Make your own decisions and opinions here, because after seeing this, I HAVE NO MORE OPINIONS.

Not only this, but they're also designing them to feed on human remains. The politically correct term they are using is 'biomass material'.

Squads of them roving over battlefields full of dead men, women and children harvesting their bodies for the next massacre or 'military operation'...

Do any of you dare say it won't happen?

Indeed! I would much rather our bodies being digested by Earth the way nature intended us to be, and not a mechanical killing machine's powerplant

Wasn't there an incident in Iraq where some US- controlled tracked robot armed with guns turned onto its controllers and started blasting the place up?

It only took me a few minutes to see its weakness.

The website mentioned in the video doesn't really give much info link.

Hard to say if this is real working tech or just speculation of what they are planning for the future. Creepy stuff though.

You know the second video is CGI?

Also debunked many times here.

No worries...dropped ball is all.

First vid is real.

Half point!

It has to be a Hoax. I have been reading up on humanoid robotics for years and there don't have anything close to this guy. To walk and run, let alone run and jump from car to car takes incredible dexterity that can only be achieved by a human brain. In one part of the video the robot shys away from bullet fire. This is a human trait a robot would not do.

I don't think it's real. I will keep an open mind and investigate this robot more.

I really couldn't tell whether it was CGI or not. My friend showed it to me earlier and was flipping out about it. I do know that the entirety of the video is supported by information that has to do with AI but scientific pros. That's the reason why I posted this. I couldn't tell whether it was real or not. If you could, direct me to more information on the second video so that I could tell me friend whether it is real or fake. Thanks!!!

Hey, you don't have to tell ME how real CGI is getting. It has become necessary for a specialist to be present for all digital recordings "both video and audio".

No blood no foul.

Just a lesson we learn about how Youtube is misleading, and all our minds are things of flesh easy to guide to thinking something.

Scarier then the robot...when you think about it.

Biomass fuel? Really? I'd love to see some documentation on that.

The Big Dog is a huge step in robotics. Its very important in avoiding getting people unnecessarily killed transporting medical supplies and even injured soldiers.

This is no different than the predator drone in its purpose: Get our people out of harms way.

Its only problem, as I have read, is its poor efficiency. But with the cells being produced now, that should be a very non-permanent problem.

ETA: Sorry I didn't comment on the second video. I didn't think it necessary as it is very obviously CG.

Lol that was cool I could see it working with and exoskeleton suit if that is the proper terminology were a real person in a suit at some distance controls every movement of the robot. We have this technology already in use in theater with small aerial crafts. And a few that are still classified. But still over all very cool and scary at the same time. When thinking in the aspect of what happened in terminator.

The 'Big Dog' looks like something from the movie Patlabor, but the second vid is an excert from a Neil Blompkamp (District 9) short, saw it a few months back.

I don't think I was telling you that CGI is getting real, and if that's the impression I gave you, I apologize. I actually was asking you whether it was real or not because I honestly couldn't figure it out. And you're right, it is scarier than the robot itself. Thanks for the reply.

I agree. It's only a matter of time until something like this becomes reality. For a minute, I actually thought that this video was real until I was told otherwise.

My first impression was, oh cool a robot District 9.

Sadly, as cool as it is Big Dog is as close to Terminator as we've got right now, but hey if we're going to be wiped out in some horrible fashion it might as well be something cool like self aware robots.

...umm...no.

Video 1, Asimo basic run, 6km/h, both feet airbourne
Dexter robot jumping
Robotic dog navigates terrain and cannot be knocked over
A more photogenic robot at Japan Expo 2005

It's just refinement from here.
