Killing the civilians in the airport is not pointless though, it is a part of the story which leads to a lot of other stuff. Anyway why is everyone getting angry? When you start the game a warning pops up and asks you if you want to play the upsetting levels.

I can't remember the exact message but it went along the lines of

"Some scenes may be distressing, these levels can be skipped without any harm to the overall progression of the game"

It then asks you to confirm, for a second time if this is ok. So the developers took every measure to protect the players who may be upset other than removing the level and why should they remove the level?

I agree that the level in question is a bit different but then again its a game, and a brilliant game at that. If playing the game means shooting civilians then shoot or dont shoot, but seeing the massacre from the terrorists eyes is obviously something that the game designers had thought about and knew that it would mess with some gamers heads. So think about the people who actually designed this stage in the game, regular people who just wanted to make a good game.

I plan on buying this game in the next week (bills come first).

You point in someones general direction and pull the trigger and they die... That is too easy. If you want a list of games that actually take some amount of practice/skill level try Swat 4 (old old school game) Rainbow Six Vegas 1 or 2, Battlefield 1942 or BF2, Far Cry 2 multiplayer. I can go on and on. But I am done arguing or responding to this post, I made my point.

When a video game goes so far to make its point such as guning down innocent people (pixels, whatever) that's going too far in my opinion. Any game, GTA series, COD whatever. A game should be just that.. skill, having fun, you against the computer (AI) or someone halfway across the world in a fun manner. These games go to far in my opinion and most parents have 0 clue what these kids are playing because they assume that it is a "game" and not levels of gunning down innocent people walking down the street or in an airport. Whether or not they are actual people or pixels is a stupid arguement because the level of realisim is lifelike.

Peace.

I'm not upset by scenes like this, I just think it's pointless. What's so challenging about shooting unarmed civilians. Like I said, that's why I don't care much for games like GTAIV and find them completely boring. I personally prefer simulations or football games like PES.

I'm curious, as some people don't have a problem with shooting innocent civilians, how would you feel if the objective had been to hijack passenger planes and crash them into the World Trade Centre.
Where do you draw the line or is anything acceptable, because after all it's only a game.

and in addition if you choose to play this mission, you dont actually have to shoot people, you can just walk through the airport with the bad guys...I personally played through it all, and didnt pay much attantion to the story line. I was just trying to pass it to unlock the multi-player coop missions. I can see this being a little too much for younger kids, but it does have an 18 or older rating on it it for a reason. choose for yourself, and let me do the same.

That's the point, i don't draw the line because it isn't real. It does not harm anyone. If you don't like it then don't play it.

You think it was pointless but the level on the game was important to the story. Compare it to a film where hostages get shot, should they cut out that scene even though it furthers the plot? That level was important to set up the whole idea that the russian guy had really good intelligence sources.

There is no line in fiction. I find it odd you are happy to criticise games but haven't yet mentioned classic horror novels or the like. If you start banning things because you find them unacceptable then it's a slippery slope and fiction will become a dried up bed, lacking any imagination.

Oh and i didn't like any of the GTA games but hey each to their own

According to internal figures released by Activision, opening day sales for its heavily-anticipated game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 smashed records, generating $310 million in 24 hours in North America and the U.K. to become the "the biggest launch in history across all forms of entertainment." Modern Warfare 2 breaks records Visit the Modern Warfare 2 Launch Central The game shipped worldwide on Tuesday, although Activision has not released sales data from regions other than the U.S. and U.K. The company estimates that roughly 4.7 million copies of the game were sold in the first day of availability in just those two territories.

So many "noobs" out there. When someone bashes a game or its player, its usually because theyve tried it and arent very good at it.

For those that think its just point and shoot, then you know nothing about FPS games, especially in multiplayer.
If that were the case then there would be no difference from a player that just picked up the game and the player that wins tournys for a living.
But why would they have tournys, where they give out 100k prizes, if everyone can just point and shoot and everyones equal?

Some people take their gaming way too seriously. I've played people online who have literally burst into tears after getting stuffed at Pes, lol. I also personally don't think online multi player games are a testament to someone's skill because there's way too much lag when playing online. So for the most part it isn't exactly a fair match.

Quite right, it's much better to use macros and hax to get to the top.

^ bollocks.

Sure some people cheat but the majority play pretty much out of the box and there is an amazing amount of skill displayed sometimes.
I enjoy pc games but know that I just play for fun so if you're going to display your EPEEN you'd better actually be good and not some teen noob flamer

More beer please

what? why is this a reply to me? i disagree with all the people complaining about this game. i love the game. i think the no russians level is brilliant. i also think the more edgey a game the better.

It's rated "M" for a reason. If you're not mature enough to realize that it's just a game, don't play it and don't talk about it.

i was only adding to what you said! no offense intended. My point was. you can either choose to not play the levels, or you can play the level, and not actuall fire at civ's, or you can play the level and kill everyone. I even tried to kill the bad guys to stop them from harming the people in the airport...but they just turn on you and kill you! mission over.
I too love really like the game and dont see aproblem for the intended age of 18+

What is so challenging about shooting a collection of 1's and 0's? I suppose to to see what it is like from the other sides point of view.

I for one have no problem with mowing down a few hundred unarmed make believe pixels - now ask me if I would like to do it in real life and you would probably get the polar opposite answer.

Games where you get to kill innocents has gone of for ever, games such as Carmagedden, Postal, and GTA have all had this sort of furor around them. All the furor and anger has done is increase the sales of the software.

Biw I know that there has been reports of people emulating what they have played, especially GTA - but they are very rare. As such, I fail to see the banning of something due to a minority who can not distinguish fiction from reality.

That mission was a blast! My friend and I rocked it...and even though the guys were Russian, we got a kick screaming "Al la la la la la" while doing it.

Have not played a game in so long...finally happy there is one out that I can enjoy playing.

edit - Just to note, people need to look in the mirror when they confuse pixels/pictures with reality.

If it offending YOU - then YOU need to check YOUR own character. Just because you look down on other people having fun doing these imagined acts of killing, does not make you any better of a person than those playing it.

I am not making a claim to say that I am better than anyone, but I am a very nice person, work, school, liked by many. Why can I not enjoy this game and the mission where I gun down all those civilians? Let people decide for themselves.

To me that's not even the disturbing bit, the bit where ya abseil down the mountain and stick the knife in the guys chest, and you see his eye's change from terror to emptiness is worse than gunning down a few hundred civi's, seeing the whites of his eye's was defiantly disturbing

I played through this entire game in 2 nights and will easily say it has been the best game experience of my life. Don't dig to far into the disturbing content found in this game. I imagine the level in question is the airport in Moscow where you play an undercover CIA agent who is put in bed with the Russian terrorists. You gun down hundreds of civilians, fight through the airport security and police only to be shot dead by the terrorist leader who knows you are undercover and leaves your body to be discovered by the Russians starting off a massive war between the USA and Russia. While you can read this anyway you want, I don't believe they meant anything more than what was needed to progress one hell of an amazing plot. Play the game.

I assume you guys should be saying "allah hu akbar" (God is the greatest) not al la la la (which means nothing)

And yes it's just a game. Enjoy!

I played video games like that all my life. Did it effect me?

Well I went into the Marine Corps as an Infantryman so I could shoot the badguys.

It isnt so bad that they influce young kids minds with video games and commic books and cartoons violice. The problem is how 'invulnerable' the first person or 'heroes' are. I wasnt scared going into combat, it was just a very real video game. Thats a good thing. Video games ARE a dissociative agent.

No one can say any better than me. Video games did have an effect on me, no matter what my family 'taught me/warned me' of.

Someone said their 14 year old got it. Well, 4 more years and they can enlist. Lets see then if you taught them anything.

Activision should do a special edition that comes with a strait jacket.
