I wonder if this would have happened under Bush, or is it just an Obama societal moment... Just a thought because as soon as I heard of it, I thought of Obama and how he doesn't support the troops in Iraq or Afghanistan. Military morale sucks right now.

I'm no fan of Obama (and I thought his 'shout out' right before he started speaking of this incident was pretty distasteful) but I don't think that played a role at all, to be honest. Its not his fault that some jerk went off the deep end.

If this name is correct of the shooter, Malik Nadal Hasan. He possibly didn't want to be deployed because of how the people of Iraq and Afghanistan would treat him. I could only imagine how afraid he could have been. To know that he had to go, and there was no way out of it.

No, absolutely not. This is no longer Vietnam. While there are some cases of people breaking out into violence out of fear of deployment.. this is just not the case anymore Army doesn't work like that now, it's actually quite easy to skirt a deployment if someone Really wanted to do so. Simply proving your instability is reason enough, and it's not very difficult.

It's a coordinated event, the origins are unknown and we will never know what's happened. The media is already playing the angle they want, and they will not change it from now on because they've invested into the story as much as they ever will.

True, the ratings are probably up tremendously for them. Thanks for your input.

PD just said "one is still on the loose" and for units to check in every hour.

Awesome, thanks for that

It seems a bit strange for not one, but three soldiers to turn and use their firearms, of course the military only ever release their version of what happens so I guess we'll probably never really know what happened

one still on the loose?

ok, explain to me HOW he escaped the largest base in what many ATSers call the american super-power of a nation?

The gunman was shot to death on the base after 11 people were killed and 31 wounded. Officials says it was not clear what Hasan's religion was, but investigators are trying to determine if Hasan was his birth name or if he may have changed his name and converted to the Islamic faith at some point.

Fort Hood covers about 340 square miles. By comparison, the city of Moscow is about 400 square miles in size.

Its a big damn base.

It's a 334 Sq. Mile base, with 52,000 Stationed Personnel. If the Soldier is familiar with the base, is it really that hard to escape? He will eventually be found though, so don't get your hopes up.

This is only the first of more to come. Security at other mil installations will be heightened for a short time...then slack off... then next attacks will come.

Interesting that dead gunman was a psych.
There is more to that fact, that is not readily apparent.
He was a convert to Islam.

Fourth suspect on the run. Probably a convert as well.

O called it a "base", it is a POST. Duh! He could care less about our troops.
He should have begun his speech with this incident, rather than a shout out and a joke, etc.

My Stars and Stripes are flying at half mast.

yea muslim hate gonna really escalate probably more than it is already.

msnbc made comment on the possibility that the Major Nidal Malik Hasan a muslim was actually part of a sleeper cell of many muslims that may have infiltrated the us military.

msnbc is starting to stretch like alex jones.

hehe

Ever served?
Ever Been on a Base stateside?
Ever been in a Turkish prison?

The place is huge with plenty of places to hide. When one stops to consider they are all most likely wearing similar uniforms it's easy to hide and blend in. Not to mention all the training facilies on site.

Don't get my hopes up?
what exactly is that supposed to mean?

why wouldn't I want a killer to be found, arrested and tried and convicted?

Don't think I'm being rude because I'm not but I suggest you look up the definition of fascism.

Our thoughts here in the UK are with those at Fort Hood.

This is the strange thing that I've noticed for some time now. We have quite a few MIL Personnel who happen to be born Muslim, and yet they enlist and perform their duties well. However, those who Enlist, and THEN CONVERT to Islam, they typically turn out to be whackos.

BTW: UPDATE: Major Hassan was in the ROTC, Virginia born, and graduated from VA Tech. He was NOT a recent Enlistee, he came up to Major through the Lower Officer Ranks (ie, 2nd Lt.).

I care about our troops and I have always called Ft. Hood a "base". Just because he doesn't use the right lingo doesn't mean he doesn't care.

Just Sayin'

Oh, BTW...please enlighten me...what's the difference between a fort, a post and a base?

As another poster mentioned, not only is this the 11th month of 2009 (9/11) but also Canada yesterday voted to review our gun control laws (We all know what's going to happen to that now)

It's very interesting. I wonder if we will ever know why they- whoever they are- attacked Fort Hood today.

sad day...
i here they were getting ready to be deployed, i wonder if they had some sort of psychotic reaction to the vaccinations that they are pumped full of before they leave... idk, maybe a manchurian candidate thing..some thing just doesn't smell right about this story... possible false flag situation here??

I certainly hope this is sarcasm, this is once again turning the screws on gun control and banning guns. These types of events are sad for the innocent people but it is clearly government sponsored terrorism.

I look at all the school shootings and mall shootings and the like and if every citizen were armed this wouldn't be happening I can guaranty you that. I realize this is a military base and that may be the jist of the arfuement here, "there were dozens of armed people around and they were all shot first". I can see it now. What a sad day, when will the Elite give it up, we will NEVER surrender our guns period.

Read a copy of NRA magazine, they have local newspaper clippings and personal accounts of people protecting themselves and others from idiots who get out of hand and have guns or knives. They have the accurate statistics, not that I am a believer in the NRA, just another government run abbreviated name, in my opinion, but at least it's something of an organization going in hopefully the right direction.
