The Health Secretary is effectively controlling health care. Only arbitrary power currently in use.

"offsite hospital" gives the Secretary to acquire any building, or land, and turn it into a medical facility.

After I responded I went to all the .gov websites.

You are right.

There is no official govt site mentioning the declaration, but every news outlet said it happened last night!

now i realy wish i had the codes, page just came accrost all broke up, could not make out what it was saying, and then the dispatch said 'evacuate the area', the responce was 202

Schools can be seized and turned into hospitals as well.

Tent hospitals and the infected can be isolated in "offsite" hospitals - no description of where it would be though.

Thanks for your many astute observations, and particularly for pointing out that the President hasn't seen fit to make a public announcement. Most odd, especially in view of the fact news of the decision only started to trickle out 24hrs after the event. Mind you, it's only a state of emergency.

The whole thing smacks of frantic discussions behind closed doors.

I still suspect there's more to this than the swine flu issue alone.

It is not clear if this declaration falls under the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601–1651). The act is not mentioned in media reports.

It is not a Presidential Order, we know that much.

The National Emergencies Act was passed in 1976. It has been extended six times. In 2007, the declaration was strengthened with the issuance of National Security Presidential Directive 51 (NSPD-51) which gave the president the authority to do whatever he deems necessary in a vaguely defined “catastrophic emergency” including everything from canceling elections to suspending the Constitution.

Let me get this right : last night Obama (now facist previously a socialist!!!) made a proclamation which nobody can actually find the official release of. The proclamation MUST be true because the purveyors of said information were the press, the guardians of the truth who never lie for a story!

Sure there is always the chance that this is some pre planed much deeper happenings going on, but if you stop and think about it, it makes sence. If this thing mixes with the common cold, and then mutates, where do we stand? No meds to fight it, nothing to stop it, except to restrict people from traveling, which will limit its spread.

I think you've got a good point. Maybe they know more about this than they're letting on. By going ahead and declaring an emergency they may be helping us somehow. I don't know.

Nobody knows if the national emergency was issued under the National Emergencies Act.

It is currently not a Executive Order - it would've been listed on the White House website and recorded for the media.

All we know is the Health Secretary is running healthcare in the United States, with powers that bypass federal law.

It may have been an over-zealous asst press secretary.

Washington Post says -

It says that Obama does "hereby find and proclaim that, given that the rapid increase in illness across the Nation may overburden health care resources and that the temporary waiver of certain standard Federal requirements may be warranted in order to enable U.S. health care facilities to implement emergency operations plans, the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic in the United States constitutes a national emergency."

None of the news channels seem to be devoting any coverage to it.

Very strange.

I wonder if there will be a retraction issued?

All Fox is talking about is balloon boy and CNN is running feature pieces.

It's not REALLY an emergency, but we want to go ahead and grab some power.

You guys are really trippin! They just want accurate counts of fatalities. Flu season is just starting and H1N1 has already reached the standard flu peak levels. I don’t think that the drop in Medicare claims this year is just coincidence. Never count on the media to report anything swine related that cannot be confirmed, they do not want to be liable. I have heard the 1000 confirmed deaths is just the tip of the ice berg and we are just getting started.

What bothers me is that I'm noticing that news stations like CNN and FOX are breifly discussing this, as they are instructed to downplay this event. Don't get the people too curious about natianoal emergencies and martial law..Act as if this is normal proceure, nothing to look at here folks.....

No folks, this is not normal.

They will mention it here and there, enough so that it doesn't seem "conspiracy like", but it will be downplayed so that it keeps the sheeple from asking questions or researching what martial law really means...They'll mix this news in with the normal circus news: ex

" President Obama has declared H1N1 a National Emergency. This will eventually lead to martial law, forced vaccinations, and mass quarantine sites......but first, the ballon boy mom admits saga was a hoax and after the break, we'll let you know who Paris Hilton is now dating....."

This is done to reduce the level of importance of something....

Some good reflections there, but:
