Great story my friend. I would hate to be in this situation...Too many people rely on the military as their only source of income or education prospect. The soldiers are not fighting for ideals anymore, but only for interests of the elites and necessity.
I think you should stand by your brother, while helping him find another career. I hope he remains safe and well.

Thanks for the welcome.......and I'll contribute eventually.

I've been reading the board for years.

And yes.........4 years is a HUGE difference when you are 5 or 9 years old........Think about it.

More than likely, this person wasn't even in school yet. it just seems overly dramatic to make her point.......which is unneccesary

I am also in the military. People join the military for COUNTLESS reasons, and few of them have ANYTHING to do with serving their country.

For many, it was jail or the military. For many more, the chance to fire a weapon or blow something(one) up. Alas, a product of our brainwashing that has turned us into a very violent blood thristy stock.

For others, it is as you say........an economic draft. There is simply nowhere else to get a job.

In any case.........it is STILL a choice. Bottom line.

If your brother doesn't like the military, tell him not to re enlist.

Honestly, I still don't think your story is completely honest. Something is fishy........and I think you just like to write.

The original draft of the declaration of independence: People have the Inalienable right to the PURSUIT OF PROPERTY. It sounded so bad even back then that they had to white wash it, and change it to happiness.

The Dream was always somebody elses nightmare:the Indians, the Blacks, the Poor,or some country we invaded for the interests of the corporate elite.

Ok......you are 25 and arrived in the USA in 1989 from Costa Rica.

That would have made you 5 years old at that time, just starting school.

So why would you be concerned about school uniforms?

Also, last I checked, Costa Rica was a relatively prosperous country. How is it that you had never seen a toilet? Even if you didn't have one in your own home, you would have ran across one somewhere. Same goes for the TV

Also, how is that your feet touched the tarmac in Miami. Flights arriving to Miami International arrive at gates. People haven't set foot on tarmacs in Miami when deboarding a plane in many many years.

Would you like to set things straight?

I got off at the Tarmac on a chartered flight. My father was with Cuban MI and my mother was a government scientist. My feet did indeed hit the tarmac. We were brought here after our application for Refugee Pursuant status was granted.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country. My parents escaped Cuba in '79 and arrived in Costa Rica poor as dirt, at the time there was high unemployment and my parents had to deal with xenophobia and refusals of employment as jobs were reserved for only Costa Ricans at the time. We lived in a village just outside of San Jose. I didn't see a toilet or a TV screen until I arrived in Miami.

The school uniform thing was odd to me. I was in school from the age of 3 to the day I got on the plane to leave for the USA. Things work a bit different in Costa Rica.

My brother wanted to serve his country. And it wasn't until he got to Iraq that he realized what was happening. He's already re-enlisted, and is hoping for better times ahead. He has his reasons beyond that but I won't discuss that here because frankly it's no one's business.

Another 'Stand and Fight' thread, albeit, a very well written one.

I agree with you 100%, as anyone who reads your thread should if they value the lives we have as Americans.

You have piqued everyone's interest and passions for this very sensitive subject but fail in providing answers and solutions.

What suggestions do you have moving forward? What could the average person do to protect the American Dream, freedoms and way of life.

You mention revolution but that's nothing but fantasy, its a fiction. As in the War on Drugs and War on Terrorism, its an ideology that's being fought not an easily identifiable enemy. How do you change the mind-set of an entire nation? How do you open the masses eyes to the fact that their Elected Officials are in the pockets of hundreds if not thousands of Corporate Lobbyists? You can't present any information to people who are comfortable in their routines. If you offer them information that threatens their perceptions and paradigms they will consider you a loon, a psycho or a nut. Just as a means to deal with the uncomfortable information presented to them.

People will have to go hungry and miss a few meals and a football game or two before they realize the lives they live are in jeopardy. I suspect at this point most will simply stand in lines all day long to receive handouts by the very Government that put them in the food lines to begin with rather than take any action to prevent this from taking place. You know why, because there is simply no change, no hope for change, we can't escape the fate we have made for ourselves.

Frankly I don't give a damn what you believe. My life is mine to know and you can question whatever you'd like, just know that I don't have to satisfy your skepticism. it's not as if I'm telling you I'm a government spy working on alien tech for the Galactic Federation of Light.

You're not the only one to ever live life.

I'm a frequent poster on ATS. On a daily basis at least 50 times. My solutions to these problems can be found all over ATS. I am not shy on my opinions.

I did speak of Revolution, but honestly it is more figurative than literal. I don't want to see this country destroyed. We need revolutionary thought in this country, and these days that may simply mean telling the truth and passing out pocket constitutions. You should know that I'm known for posting accurate information and being consistent.

seems to me that he is carrying on family tradition of dissenting in nations .i.e
father was a free thinker ans left cuba , now son is free thinker and may in future leave USA, when it falls to civil war , or turns superfascist

I will NEVER run. I come from a family of freedom fighters. On my mother's side I have a grandfather that spent 11 years in a political prison(God rest his soul). On my fathers side I have a grandfather who died in a firefight while attempting to kill Fidel in a motorcade.

My family doesn't run. We fight.

I caught your thread last night before I logged. It's extremely well written, and I'm glad you took the time to share it.

It's clear from some of the responses here, that there are people in the world who hate the U.S. so much, that they have no problem whatsoever lashing out at anything labeled America.. including resorting to personal attacks on your family. I think anyone who openly expresses their hope, that harm may come to a child, doesn't need anyone's help in exposing just what kind of person they are.

I doubt I could add anything to your OP, except that I support any decision you, or your brother, choose to make.

I'm right up the street in Panther Valley, and can honestly say that I'm proud to have you as a neighbor.

Heh, I go shooting near Panther and over at Derby Dam.
If you're in Reno any time in the future, hit up the Jungle..

I appreciate the vote of confidence, as another poster said, I've been getting pretty beat up over this thread.

Thank you my dear, it's always good to see your posts.
My intention was to share the experience that brought me to
where I am today, and why I feel the way I do. I figured, if nothing else,
I could inspire others to at least think about what freedom actually means.

I appreciate your quick response.

I think if people read and understood the Constitution, our Country may stand a chance.

The harsh reality is the Constitution is too long, too complex for the average person to invest time to. As everyone works to make their mortgage/car/credit card/medical payments they lose themselves in their own forms of escape such as Video Games and Reality T.V.

I take your point, and agree, we have to get the word out...but.
I often see people in Denver, on street corners trying to address their concerns and issues similar to that discussed here on ATS to passerby's. Most people pass by and smirk, laugh or avoid them completely.

There are figure-heads, with radio shows and many websites that discuss the health of this Nation. These people, these web sites, are viewed as fringe and are not taken seriously by the majority.

If everyone who shares our concern for the nation stood up and spoke out, what then?

They would be speaking against a worldly system, a fully established Global Economy. This can't be changed by a political shift in the United States alone. The scope of this problem is a condition of the world. Governments and Corporations are so intertwined that the fall-out left for the average citizenry, the world over, is becoming all to evident. Corporations could not bare another World War, Capital Banks will not allow it. Wars will be fought to align and usurp unthreatening nations for profit and resource domination/control. For example, China, doesn't want to take-over America, they want us to continue to buy their products. China has no viable interest in war with the U.S. because there is nothing to gain through conflict. If it was land they want, it would be land destroyed.

We can't change it, just as we can't stop a speeding train. The world is evolving into a One-World form of Government with a One-World Currency.

Some may say that there is already an established one-world currency, the Dollar. Perhaps this is true. Perhaps what we are seeing is a new type of conflict. World War 3 wont be fought in the traditional sense, with tanks and bombs but rather in banks and on the floor of the commodities exchange. Economically our side would appear to be losing this war.

I don't have all the answers. I'm just as frustrated as everyone else.
But I make my efforts by being honest and helping inform those I care about and anyone who will listen. It's a matter of patience.

No one is denying that our government is corrupt. But since all you're doing is complaining from afar, stay out of it. We can clean our own house. Besides, when is the last time we invaded your home?

The funny thing is that we all know that we are in the 'positioning' phase of a war. We all know the sides of this war, and where and how it's going to be fought.

It's going to be a war of good atheists & agnostics versus religious freaks.
It's going to be a war of blind faith versus open-minded doubt.
It's going to be a war of the rich and their lackies versus the proponents of self-betterment.
It's going to be a war between those who want to live WITH the earth, and those who want to live in SPITE of it.
It's going to be a battle to the death between those who cannot care, and those who believe in something better.

This war will turn brother against brother, so my point to you OP is get your brother to fight on the right side. One day he will be asked to make a choice, make sure he makes the RIGHT one. Just like you, I don't want him forced to fire on civilians in the U.S. - and that's what it will come to. When the bombings start, the 'civil' fighting in the streets, the racially motivated killings, the gay-bashings, the emergence of the symptoms of a sick society. A sick society will die eventually, but not before the troops have been put on the streets to try and stem the 'societal' bleeding. You can make sure your brothers legacy is a positive one - that he was one of the minutemen who stood up in the Second American Revolution, and tooks arms against the new tyrants.

It all starts with you guys over the pond in the U.S. - if you can get your second revolution going, it will help enough of us here in the UK to do the same. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Good Hunting.

The Para.

To move this discussion beyond people posting comments such as lets go to war with the Banks (which is ridiculous). We all have a desire and love for the Dollar, we all want more of them.

We have established that we are frustrated with the Countries current state of affair. We all make it a point to spread information and provide facts to people willing to listen. As more and more people become aware that the Government lies and is riddled with corruption, what is this enlightenment going to provide?

The bottom line is, make the best life you can with who and what you have. What good does stressing over matters beyond your control do? Your frustration does you no good. Just try to live a good life and appreciate what you have. Thats the answer I, and pretty much everyone I know, has reached. Just be prepared and remain informed.
