I never paid much attention to the "Friend/Foe thing. I just took a look at my profile, and, it seems I have a good ratio.

81 people made me their friend
1 person made me their foe.

81-1 is pretty indicative, to me at least, that I have said something or two right!

On MY end, I have made 13 people my "Friends" and I have not chosen any Foes yet. Although a couple of you people do indeed, put me on my toes!

Last ditch on topic effort:

It's been my experience and observation that most folk not only "foe" each other without regard for the "respected" element, which in itself is rather indicative of a particular mentality, but also and mostly as a last resort when all their efforts to defend the unreasonable have been exhausted. Thus they foe you as a last resort to make themselves believe they achieved something. Of course what they fail to realize is that indifference is the ultimate slight and by consequence reveal themselves to be rather shallow and easily flustered.

I think the feature as most use it could better be described as "I'm going to hold my breath until you agree with me."

It is however useful to identify those with whom one can have a little intellectual fun with.

Spot on old chap. I kind of meant that myself in my first post in this thread but I also have a humorous streak that sometimes takes over.....

I agree with your post. But you got to remember, A "good debate" doesn't mean the same to everyone. Some narrow minded ones .will see a "good debate" as the other party having to agree with them as a prerequisite for there being "a good debate". That being the case, I agree with you, such people are worthless because they attempt to force there opinions on others. They are extremist, and bigots. Whether they come from the whacko, intolerant, nanny state, liberals or the right wing nuts, they both come from the same barrel.

Still, I am not sure I would go so far as to "beat my head against the wall" to try and reason with any of them.

Or they could simply just have a different opinion to you that you don't like!

I see you forgot to add that, so I thought I'd be a champ and do it for you

Stalk people who have foed you....

I have been foed by a few. The first one made me a little upset but the next 3 didn't. One was by mistake and another was a joke by a friend. I have yet to foe anybody. I honestly don't see the need. Nor have I ignored anybody. Let them rant it's not my bandwidth they take up.

My problem with the "foe" button is that every time I come across someone who would go quite well in that category, they say something that would make them a good "friend." Same thing with the "friend" button, they usually go and say something so off-the-wall and stupid that I think they'd be a better "foe."

So I usually avoid messing with either (evident by my very few "friends" and the zero "foes").

I am on someone's "foe" list though, and I have no reason why. Oh well, I just like to assume they actually go by the "respected" part and its more of a complement.

I have only ever been tempted to ignore somebody once, but in the end even that turned into something quite funny as i u2u'd the member (who i was trying to ignore) to ask him where the ignore button was. In the end i left it.

Oh and one member Zindo Doone added me as a foe, so i added him as a friend just for the sheer randomness. Now whenever i see his avatar with the word 'friend' above it, i have a sly little chuckle.

I think most of the time it's good banter, but i have recently received a few warnings from a moderator for my harsh choice of words, so i'm trying not to annoy anyone or visit any threads that will wind me up.

p.s who like my new avatar??

Not sure if I see your point. If this option is a last ditch effort for someone to be compulsively right about something in a debate, as I think you are suggesting? What would be the point of it if the other party has the same option?

Yeah, it's a laugh that's for sure

I don't ignore people either, it's really not that hard to point your eyes a few centimeters down away toward the next post if you don't wish to read a particular person's post.

Actually I lie, I ignored someone once, they came into a thread - I think it was in the Aliens forum, and tried to sell us seeds. No, I'm not kidding

I have a few people on my own foe list that I put there when I first joined the site, and before I realised it's for people you respect. I keep meaning to clear the list up so as only those I respect remain on it....

..not that it matters in the greater scheme of things.

Just checking
It looked, for a minute, as if you were implying that anyone with a different opinion to yours that you don't like and can't budge the other person on is therefore automatically a bigot, or a right-wing nut or something like that.

I thought I would be a champ and amend that for you

Yeah but I'll be watching out for potential Foes on this thread and ATS from now on.

The Stalking Foe-listers.

That has a Hitchcock kind of feel to it.

I have encountered that particular mentality also. Sometimes they say something like, Let's go through this one more time s-l-o-w-l-y, or something to that effect. That's when you need to tell the other party just as s-l-o-w-l-y, that he is the one not getting it. You are just disagreeing with him , that's all. If he wants to make it a federal crime out of it, he is the one with the problem, not you.

I have encountered those who would insult and degrade right from the get-go without any prior discussion, clearly ignorant of the premise of the opinion of the poster he/she is attacking, who then attempted to claim he/she never insulted that poster and signed off by declaring he/she was adding that person to his/her Foe's list!

Didn't make sense to me then, still doesn't now. That's why I don't pay any attention to the Foe's list.

"LOL are you implying that I am stalking you? Whatever gave you that idea? Whatever it is that you are smoking mate, perhaps you should put it down and try something different"

No more so that you implying your "foes" thingy is a way of me giving you the finger.

As to, "what I am smoking"?...........Only the best, mate!!!!

Yes, the laughs have been a treat for me as well.

Until I saw your post on the previous page implying I was stalking you I had no idea you were in the thread - let alone bloody stalk you.

Seriously, WTF?

If you have a problem with me, perhaps you had better send me a U2U, or write it down on a piece of paper - I hear that can be quite therapeutic - anything but air it here. This is not the place for it.

I have recently gotten several foe U2Us too.
I just delete them. I don't know ANY of them. I figure they saw a post of mine the didn't agree with and, unable to come up with a decent rebuttal to my post, decided to "foe me" instead. To me, it means I'm having an impact. Feels pretty good.
