I had to add some good ones too, like this one and this one - very emotional people! I found them on SkepticOverlord's own huge list of foes

Its called respected Foes, Ive always though it was like a friends list but of people who had different opinions to you.

Its not called the stick a finger up at them list, thats what my ignore button is for.

Could also be that they are using Interclue a plug in for firefox
It happened to me a while back started getting friends and foes
from leaving the courser on recent posts and scrolling down the page while reading and the button is in direct line with friend/foe area and if it lingers over it for a over a few seconds , poof new friend or foe.

When I realized this one day I went through all my "foe " list to make them friends because I don't have any foes nor that plug in anymore.

I did mention it one day as a heads up in Boards and business but I guess it was skipped over

Thank-You

I have been foeing people left and right and didnt know why. I am using interclue as well, or was until I read your post.

Hopefully this will put an end to the madness..

It happens to me too. From the same source as well. People will be people.

I quite like the feeling of getting on someone's foe list.

It cheers me up to know that i have challenged somebodys point of view.

Oh and those two linked members with hundreds of foes = fail.

People don't understand the function. It's "respected" foe. I reserve those to people in the Debate forum. They are "foes" in as we compete and I respect them. Most use the function as an "up yours". As has been said, don't stress it. There are only 3 members here that have more foes than me and I don't lose sleep over it.

"I have to crack up laughing when someone "foes" me to be honest. Usually it's just after a debate about something or other and I get the distinct impression that by "foeing" me the person thinks they are getting one up on me, or are giving me the finger so-to-speak.

It's at this exact point that peels of hysterical laughter can be heard emanating from the general vicinity of my computer....."

Agreed, there are those out there. The only thing I think would top that would be someone laughing at the unimportance of "foes". yet willing to stalk those that designated him as "foe". I to hear the laughter from somewhere near my computer!

OMG!!

That's awesome! (I think!!!) How can they gather so many friends/foes??
(Sounds kinda "Needy" to me?)
I actually hadn't really noticed the Friend/Foe thing much before today! (I guess because no one had befriended or foe'd me?)

Hey, hang on.... that's worse than having some!!! LOL

I can see the "respected foe" angle, where you would like to acknowledge the technique and spirit of an opposing opinion, without actually having to agree with it.
There must be many situations here, where a thread contains several valid points of view, with none being proven beyond doubt?
It would be nice if that routinely led to marks of respected foe-dom rather than the usual tirades of insults and abuse!!

"I respect your point of view sir, and send you a token of that respect!"

hmmm... maybe that's why it appears to be often seen as giving the finger???

It's a pity that a feature, which was set up to show respect, is being mis-used or mis-interpreted so much, but hey-ho, that's human nature for you.
(On a certain level!
)

Personally, I add people as a foe or block them if I think they are not open to discussion and have vehemently opposing views to mine. They are the arrogant people who are not here for a good debate, and it's like banging your head against a brick wall trying to talk to them or reason with them.

Usually, I have to add, they are religious nuts who regurgitate the Bible in response to any discussion, homophobes, racists, you get the picture.

IMO, they are not worth my time and energy.
If they cannot hold a debate with me without bringing up the Bible (unless that's the basis of the discussion of course) or resort to homophobia and racism etc, then their credibility in any opinion they might hold is shot.

I'm generally not interested in anything such people say.

The fact is, the option is there. People use it for various reasons. I've been added as a foe for being openly gay and arguing against a religious zealot, and that's fine with me.

If your opinion doesn't suit some, don't worry about it. It's your opinion after all.
But regardless, people have different reasons for using these features, and some will be seemingly pointless, in which case, they are the ones missing out on good debate.

Wow! I think it's great all the different opinions on this one ATS option. who would have guessed it without looking at this thread. I think the variety of opinion is great because if opinion all went one way, none of us would be here.

Dang. Maybe I need to change mine now...

No, I just won't do it.
It's for eternity.

But I will add space-cadet as a friend, in solidarity.

I have quite the list growing. This was before I was a MOD.
I would not worry about it. At the end of the day it does not matter nor affect one's life at all (well, it should not).

Just keep on being who you are.
I still have more than you

Thanks for the laugh though
