I don't understand why people are getting so bent out of shape about this like it really offends them. You should be more offended that Obama hasn't come to your town hall so you could discuss this with him. Without someone in the audience having a voice for all of us at his speeches, then more and more sheep will eat up what he says. When we have a congressman outburst like that, some of the sheep are gonna start questioning why it's a lie. It's called Democracy bro, we have a voice.

He was referring to two amendments on one version of proposed health care legislation, which he said would have provided for verification of citizenship. Both of the amendments were defeated, he said.

www.cnn.com...

Did this amendment that was defeated intend that all Americans provide verification of citizenship or was it going to be done in a discriminatory discretionary way?

Obama lied all night long.
Apparently, he has convinced Bill O'reilly that the Public Option is
gone. Don't you believe it.
Nancy Pelosi will slide it in there on page 666 through a back door
hair trigger.

Lets not forget this:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. Pelosi’s proposals are so draconian, and will so polarize the Capitol, that any thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible before he even takes office.

Why people are getting "bent out of shape" because of the NC congressman yelling you lie in a national speech on the floor of the house with all members of govt. there. It's because he showed lack of respect from what he did, serious lack of respect. He in a nutshell told Obama that not only him but the other republicans aren't going to show you respect. This is what Obama was talking about in his speech, people in the house and senate doing things in order to get short term political shots and percieved advantages on the other side. This wasn't about emotion, this was about him trying to make a mockery of what Obama was doing and saying. He and many others must be suffering from conservative Derangement Syndrome.

aworldofprogress.com...

You lie, what and idiot. Many of these people are going through a psychosis that is making them crazy and they are doing crazy things. The other republicans know what he did was bad and wanted him to apologize today on the house floor. That is why they told the Democrats to hold up on a vote today so that he could apologize, he didn't as of this time (and it was Boehner and others wanting him to). This incident is galvanizing the Democrats to get the full 60 for a vote on this bill and they are going it alone and daring the republicans to vote against it.

Illegals will still get medical care just like they do now. Hospitals cannot turn anyone away from emergency rooms and that is where the illegals go for all their medical care.

You're right, that is how illegals get medical care now. That's how it is under the present system so many on here think is so wonderful.

That may continue after the health care reform bill is passed, but the fact is the bill (in its present form anyway) clearly states that illegals will not be covered.

Obama was not lying.

Think about it: Why would the president put coverage for illegal aliens in the health care bill? Nobody in their right mind would, and whatever you have to say about him, Obama is not insane. Some people who have fallen off the nut wagon might want to say it's because he's really a Kenyan and has a plot to subvert the U.S. this way. But only the most paranoid could imagine that Obama would do such a thing.

It's idiotic for anyone to shout "you lie" when the man isn't lying.

That look on Pelosi's face was priceless. It was like "How dare he." In an
idiotic accent with crap on the side. This man spoke truth and in my book shouldn't have apologized today.

I have no idea what you're referring to. And unless you are more clear, I simply cannot respond. I said I am willing to respond. To what?

If you are confused, please follow the handy links provided.

What links? This thread is 15 pages long. There are lots of links. If you want a response, you're going to have to ask me. I may have missed something, but I assure you, I'm not trying to deflect.

You say I should take the President at his word.

I did not say that. I don't even advocate that.

My question, if you care to comment, was "why is Pres. Obama now saying he wants what he has avoided for months? "

I'm not convinced that he has avoided anything. Your source said he sent a terse letter saying he had health care under control. When I see the letter that the GOP sent to Obama and when I see Obama's reply, I can comment on it. But I won't comment on something that I haven't seen.

Secondly, I am not Obama's spokesperson. If you want to know why Obama does something, you're going to have to ask Robert Gibbs or Obama himself.

I do agree, her icky expressive reaction was way more amusing than average...tending to show once again that the reason us peasants love to see our betters get their comeuppance is because they do have so far up to come...

Second deflection.

I can't continue a game with you that you play with everyone else.

The links are all in my comments, starting at page 12. That is not 15 pages.

But whatever, I am not going to derail this thread, BH.

You are good at this, very good.

Are you Robert Gibbs?

An interesting take on last night's events:

Juvenile, manipulative, impossibly smarmy, hateful - or at least more than willing to use the weapon of other people's hate - and, above all, relentlessly cynical. To these (mostly) men, politics is not the "art of the possible", not a means for peaceably grappling with the most difficult and complex issues of the day, or for attempting to improve the lives of people you will never meet. It is nothing but a game, one where the object is not just to win but to destroy your enemies with a weird mix of angry slander and junior high insults - and to have a good chuckle while admiring your handiwork.

It is an attitude that enables one to label a respected judge who worked with disadvantaged children a pedophile (as Rove's minions did in an Alabama Supreme Court race in 1994), or to put Sarah Palin on a presidential ticket.
Just as for the neocons it is always 1938, for the professional College Republicans in the House GOP, it is always the annual convention, with the hotly-contested race for treasurer or secretary between one guy from Michigan State and another from Clemson. Accusations of fraud abound, frat boys and bookworms alike go berserk as they see their chances of interning with the RNC slip away, and desperate calls are made to worshipped alumni with the hope that some measure of revenge can be exacted. Nerd libido harnessed to cynical rage.

Welcome to the House the College Republicans Built. For our benefit, President Obama is more than happy to let them live in it.

After talking to a friend about last night's speech, she pointed out something that I missed about the event. Obama used the podium not to address the nation about "The State of the Union", but he held this forum to address his dropping polls. Almost everything out of his mouth was a lie, so he can fix his fast dropping approval rating with voters. Obama used the podium to bash his opponents. He used a honored and precious forum that is utilized to declare war and policy, so he can gain some type of political levity.

Was it right for any congressmen to shout out the word liar? No. However, that does not mean the congressmen was wrong. He was damn right.

Second, am I the only who wanted to punch the screen when Pelosi kept smiling?

Whether or not it was a lie, or even a slight bending of the truth notwithstanding, the previous president was the most shameless liar ever to hold the office and nobody ever treated him with such disdain.

It was out of line, and now the whole world can see just how far the once admired United States has sunk into the mud.

What flavor is the Kool-Aid today? I've been abstaining, as I'm trying to lose weight.

You can go ahead and drink my portion.

Do you have a point or are you just gonna sit there looking adorable?

Don't worry though sweetie, you have plenty of people out there screaming on the news every night that think you're an intellectual

Booing someone that says something you don't like is pretty tame compared to flat out calling them a liar in front of the entire world.

No name-calling was done here, either. "You lie." "You" is the subject. "Lie" would be the predicate. Unless you're claiming by calling the man, "You," he's somehow calling the president names. Perhaps you're going back to the slave days, when slaves would just be referred to as, "You?" "Liar" would be the nominative form of "lie." That word was not used.

Let's not twist other people's words into what we want to hear, m'kay?

From the look on Pelosi's face, you'd have thought that someone broke wind in church at her daughter's carefully staged wedding.

Obama did lie, so what's the fuss?

Illegals are getting access to every other federal program, and they'll damn well get access to this one.

Hell, they're even voting.

For those who give them things they aren't entitled to.

The language may not be there, but neither is the language that would provide a means for verifying if someone is an illegal. Originally, illegals were counted in the 47 million uninsured in this country, but as of last night that number suspiciously dropped to 30 million. Where did 17 million unisured go?

In the end, without a means of verification INCLUDED IN THIS BILL, illegals will still continue to receive health care regardless if reform comes or not. It's called a loophole and this bill is full of 'em.

There are many that say that we should show respect to the man because of his office.

it's odd, I thought respect is something you earned and gained, like trust.

What most are talking about is actually fear. They expect you to fear the office/man so thus feign respect for fear of what might happen to you if you don't, like in the medieval days when it was bow and scrape and act submissive or get killed.

The main question is Why he Called Obamanation a liar. I posted this in another thread but it also fits here.

This is the Only thing in the bill that mentions anything about govt. payments to undocumented aliens/illegals.
You will notice that it is Quite Specific as to the "Affordability Credits."
So it is very vague as to weather the Govt. Will pay for illegals in other programs mentioned in the bill’s.
So far this same section, in the same language is in the two House Amendments.
The Education and Labor Markup is not yet available but I would be willing to guess it is in there also.

SEC. 246. NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS.
Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.
