Isnt it being broadcast to kids while they are in school? i remember bush sr.s address and that was just on national tv where i flipped the channel ... in school you cant really change the channel that easily... so in summation every kid in the nation will hear anything he wants to say

and he hasnt even made the speech yet so i dont see how people are saying its not going to be partisan.... and how you can compare speeches that have happened to one that has yet to happen

Then saying it is going to be partisan is okay? Even though you have no idea of what he's going to say? Well, in the paranoid conservative world, yes. And BTW, Bush's address was no different than Obama's. His speech, plain and simple, was to school children and was watched (not censored) by almost ever school kid in the country

Exactly. How is the author of the article comparing something that hasn't happened yet?

From article in OP:

In my earlier writings discussing the nationwide school addresses of Presidents George H. W. Bush and Ronald Reagan it turns out I was wrong on one point. It turns out in watchings some clips of the two addresses they were actually very partisan. This new fact makes the conservative hypocrisy toward the neutral Obama school speech even more glaring.

Sounds more like socialist dribble, or Ryan Witt has a time machine and has already seen the future Obama speech. I put my money on dribble.

I didnt say it was going to be partisan ... but i do disagree with giving him an outlet to every school in the nation i would be much more comfortable if it was just an evening address to the nation for kids... but when your in school your options are very limited you can watch or go to a detention hall with all the other people who dont want to see the speech

and actually i really dont think youve got all the facts on that one ... im sure some schools did play the address but it wasnt played at mine ... and im sure children decided to go home and watch the speech ... snoooooooooore

this is laughable ... the previous presidents held a conference with a few children or read a book in one class ... they didnt broadcast to every school in the nation ... your scale is waaaaaaaay off

[edit on 6-9-2009 by conspiracyrus]

Actually they did... if you read the thread you will note that schools were encouraged to show it, it was at noon, and my school did show it.

Scroll down a little... you will see more links with Newspapers clippings about Bush Sr's address.

And yeah... aren't most things posted from Blogs?

Geesh... This isn't the Breaking News forum for goodness sakes.

lol no i usually wouldnt allow credence to just some guys opinion, and isnt obamas address going to be in every school in the nation? so once again this "articles" scale is off
not to mention your list of schools was about 5 names long ... lot more than 5 schools around the country

heh and the guy even says that he first didnt view their speeches as partisan ... only now when he has a reason to find them partisan he does

Really? Is that anything like you watching the challenger tragedy in 86 on Channel one when Channel one was not online till 89?

What you see on TV in Ohio is very different from the rest of reality.

But that's the way the Bush speech was -- schools were encouraged to show it. And some schools chose not to but the majority did show it. I'm 53 years old. I was very alive in 1989 and I have a very good memory. Nobody was "forced" to show the Bush speech and nobody is being "forced" to show the Obama speech.

And as the OP pointed out, the Bush and Reagan speeches were FAR more partisan than the Obama speech is likely to be.

Not sure how you can compare an unknown speech that hasn't happened yet to a speech that has already happened... they must have some magical powers to do that.

The point is no politician should be talking to your children. Ever.

It is never innocent. No matter which worthless political party.

Now all you Obama apologists and Obama haters can go back to wasting everyone's time with your lip flapping nonsense.

Actually, a lot of schools may not show the speech because the time of the speech coincides with most school's lunch periods. So to actually show the speech to the school body would require major rearranging of schedules...

At least that was the reason my school district said they were not going to show it.

I imagine that would be a problem for most school districts? But who knows.

Neither Bush nor Regan is President today. If they were and if they wanted to make a speech to my child I would be just as pissed. Politicians should spend time lying to grown ups who can decide for themselves if they want to buy into the BS.

Leave our kids alone.

Edit to add, this isn't a left vs. right issue. Sure some people would love to make it into that, and many conservitive TV and Radio personalities have jumped all over this; however, politicians should stay out of lecturing to our children. They have mothers and fathers who are quite good at lecturing, and if their parents aren't pushing them to stay in school or to say no to drugs then no politician, event the all mighty Obama can make a difference.

No... it won't be in my sons school. They have opted out, pointing us to the web where we can watch it together on non-school time.

Too bad Hannity and Beck wont criticize Reagan and Bush for the same thing...

That's the point of this thread... not to support Obama speaking to Children, to call out the hypocrisy of Hannity and Beck and their parrots.

If you think no president should ever, and chastise previous presidents who have, then I have no issue with you. I only take umbrage with the hypocrites.

As I have said, we didn't receive Channel 1 until 91.

Ad hominem attacks never work.
