How phony are the phony town hall mobs? Rachel Maddow explains it all for you. If only the rest of the corporate MSM did the same. Her investigation of the so-called public interest groups running this thing concludes: "This is professional, corporate-funded, Republican-staffed PR, and it should be reported as such".

And tonight, these corporate/Republican/Republicanist-media sponsored and emflamed mobs are, as expected, beginning to turn violent. RAW STORY has details on a Glenn Beck-inspired "near riot" tonight at a forum in Tampa.

Anyone surprised? I'm afraid this is gonna get much worse before it gets better...

Well done Rachel. And no, Neo-V, I'm not surprised. Anger is an easily exploitable emotion, especially in mobs, and has been a political tool for eons.

There are valid concerns (huge) regarding health-care, but violence aims at stopping questions, not producing more, and any sense is lost in a haze of emotion.

Violence is also counter-productive because it will usually justify the government in acting unilaterally.

So, the minority party has joined forces with corporate interests, and they are leading an increasingly violent rebellion against the government?

"Political instability: it's not just for developing countries anymore!"

Other thoughts:

1. These don't sound like "fake" protesters. Most mobs and protests are organized by somebody.

2. This past 12 months is teaching me that 99.9999% of Americans (including most ATSers) understand neither Socialism or Capitalism, and this ignorance allows politicians to totally pawn them into doing things.

Are you serious?

"...exposes phony....?"

Let me get this right. Organized political opposition is now evidence of "phony" opposition to political issues?

Man, you people have gotten soft.

"Phony" in my book, as an example, is when you find evidence that people have actually been PAID to espouse a political view they would otherwise not hold.

Where was Maddow's evidence of that?

What's "phony" is her argument.

Active protest is a presumed feature of our political process, not a guaranteed symptom of fraud.

Get real people.

All politics is organized resistance.

The notion that conservative groups wouldn't attempt to organize resistance to the unconstitutional take over of our medical care by federal bureaucrats is ridiculous.

The democrats are acting like this is some kind of information that is supposed to discredit the movement.

The fact of the matter is that organized resistance to government tyranny will not happen if people don't believe in the cause.

Its clear that right now the protesters outnumber the totalitarians by at least 3 to 1.

No political organization can muster those kinds of numbers for events held around the country unless public opinion is on their side. None of those people are being paid to be there. They are all protesting out of their own free will and love of freedom.

Are all the protesters phony? Highly unlikely.

The aim of this, of course, is to portray ALL angry citizens as somehow being part of an opposition party political tactic, thus ignoring the fact that there certainly are a lot of very angry Americans with genuine grievances.
It may well be the case that certain individuals / groups are sending in agents to act violently in order to discredit a growing movement, and try to marginalise the very real dissenters and angry voters / taxpayers.

Same works with the 9/11 truth movement. Get some folks to chip in with some really bizarre theories, then focus on those ones to portray the entire truth movement as a bunch of cranks.

True, but as Maddow says, they are being 'ginned-up' by professionals who are not representative of the protesters interests...rather that they serve the interests of Corporate America and the Republican Party.

If that's what they're gonna do, they ought to be straightforward about it. And from the perspective of this poor ignorant foreigner, neither one has done a particularly good job of taking care of Middle America.

The last 8 years don't look a lot like the Good Ol' Days.

Agree JC.

Mind you, with the huge Pharma and Insurance corporations standing to make a killing (pun intended) with this new healthcare system, you'd think they'd be there in force supporting the case for it.
For now though, all the anti-Obama rhetoric seems to be giving some comfort to the blind partisan politics supporters. You are right in saying that the previous 8 years were not exactly the good ol' days though, something that seems to get ignored a lot. Many of the things coming into effect under the new Obama administration didn't just happen overnight, they have been in the planning for a long time by the money men and supported, whether overtly or covertly, by both sides of the political spectrum. There is money to be made and they ALL want a piece of the action!

The people around me that are pissed about the 1000 page health care bill that our politicians haven't read and Obama is trying to ram through legislation aren't being drummed up by corporate interest.

Nice Try!

I just can't stand that woman. She has a way about her that makes me feel like I do when someone scrapes their teeth on their fork. Did I say I can't stand her? I mean some of these career liars are actually good at it. She is just obnoxious. Maybe that's what makes a good TV Personality. Anyway, I'm going with other sources. She can hypnotize the rest of you all you will allow.

Now that I'm on a roll, let me also add Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck and Keith Olberman to the list along with wacked out Rachel (in my book). They are nothing, I repeat - NOTHING, like investigative journalists. They are players playing us.

Actually, I think is much simpler than that.

They're just whoring in a manner they think will quickly advance and sustain the success of their respective careers.

I guess that makes them the real phonies, huh?

She is either accusing them of being paid mercenaries or unwitting manipulated dupes. The right is using fear in a big way, as is their wont, recently at least. The left is dumbfounded how to counter it. Given some of the dis-info going on on this issue and the big bucks at stake I find it hard to believe that some of this isn't "phony" in the sense that it is a subterfuge or distraction. These protests say more about anxiety and fear than they do any substantive policy issue. Hence all the name-calling.

Rachel Maddow says it and you believe it?

If any of you thought that nobody is a bigger lying piece of crap then Bill Orielly, I introduce Rachel.

This lady hates anything Republican. If you told her that you was a Republican and you touched her, she would melt.

I can tell you honestly that I did not nor will I watch the clip. I cannot stand to look at her or to listen to anything she says.

Seriously, Glenn Beck is a better source for news then she is.

I think anyone with half a brain would have figured this out long ago. Apparently the rest of the MSM is slow witted.

When Fox News makes an editorial (because it isn't reporting as there is no source other than Rupert Murdoch's opinion) and people repeat it verbatim, word for word, the very next day at a Town Hall it doesn't take anything more than short-term memory to recognize the source of their rants.

Considering these are the same people that rant about the MSM manipulating people, I find it hysterical that these Fox News Parrots are doing even worse, being nothing more than puppets to the same MSM they speak out against.

A fundamental propaganda technique is to simply discredit the opposition.

This is very commonly accomplished by 'planting' a few 'operatives' in the opposition, then 'exposing' them, and viola', you've 'proved' your claim that the opposition are the 'bad guys.'

See demonizing the opposition.

IMHO this is obviously what's going on here with the town meetings on the health care debate.

I watched this episode of Maddow, and could not help but actually gag at her phony, over-the-top presentation of someone's(someone above her) facts. The whole things was a joke! The media is setting us all up for a fight. It was apparent to me that the show programming opinions are skillfully written to manipulate our feelings. There was not one ounce of truth from that broadcaster, she just spouted with fervor the opinion she was told to convey!
