Unfortuatly the events of the last couple of weeks and yesterday are going to result in much death and pain.

Good point. And it's up to us who are upholding the higher standards to get everyone else there as well. Once you're there you keep going up further. You don't go backwards and start doing like they are, who haven't known of those higher standards. You don't drop everything good you've learned and go for it the way they have been doing. No. Our higher learning shows us, it's our responsibility to help those not in 'that' place yet, what it's all about, and how to get themselves going in that direction as well.

It's like, angels have a tough time with helping out the ignorant as well, sometimes. But they don't go and destroy them utterly because they weren't able to help them personally. There are OTHER angels around TOO who will help out in that situation!

"It's not easy to remain tranquil when those around you are losing their heads."

Not just Nick Berg, who perhaps stuck his "head" where it didn't belong, some of the reaction here is also "headed" in a less than tranquil direction.

"Heads"-up! We are "headed" in the wrong direction.

The Orange Jump Suit the man is wareing remember that orange suits are issued by the United States. More over the video is well faked but lets look at this video with a watchfull eye. The man whos head is cut off it takes about 5 to 7 mins for the heart to stop beating. There was no blood on the floor when the head was cut off. If you look at the men that are in the back ground you will see there hands. That are not brown they are white. If these were middle eastern terrorist the hands would have been brown.

More over the men in the background were wareing brand name shoes.

Looks like the CIA is getting sloppy.

This leads the possiblity to one of a few conclusions.

1. The man is not dead but somewhere else that the cia needed his death to be shown so he would dissappear.

2. This video is put out by the CIA to attempt to polorise arab hate for the modern world, and at the same time cause people to forget about the pictures done by colition personal.

And other reason's but lets think about what we know.

The fact is the pentagon now wants to hold the pictures that some of which were posted here before the rest of the world saw them. Why is this? To play down how bad the pictures really were or? Is this just a attempt to polorise and compartementalise infomation. The pentagon is quite upset about all of the infomation that has come out on the pictures so far. If you are the Gov what do you do?

"Manufacture a Incident."

I cant imigine that recent video put out could be a staged incident can you.

Falcon

Hats off to the CIA its a good video needless to say but the next time you boys are going to stage a incidnet you might want to think about giving the future victim somthing other then a orange jump suit. Might help you not get caught as quickly next time.

Look, what we need to realize that this war is just one big war crime and there's no way to fix it. There's no staying the course, restoring chaos, staying on the right track. Its over. The more we kill the more enemies we make and America has killed thousands of people under Bush.

Preest: "Torture? How quickly you forget 9/11 and the torture those people in the collapsing buildings felt as they went down and were pinned under tons of rubble...how quickly you forget the families of the dead and their emotional torture. "

Um, guess what? The US Army has killed over 10,000 Iraqi civilians since the start of this illegal invasion, so it looks like your 9-11 tally has been paid in full. 3,000 Americans dead vs 10,000 Iraqis. Sounds to me like you're now the more effective mass murderers.

How quickly you rush to use the 9-11 tragedy and the "emotional torture" of the families to justify acts of PHYSICAL torture. Pathetic really.

"honestly anybody who can stand and state with a straight face and say that what those Iraqi soldiers were "tortured" has no idea what torture is "

You're starting to sound pretty desperate here, pal. According to the Geneva Conventions and the Charter of Human Rights, it's TORTURE. I don't know what kind of Dr. Seuss definition you're using, but don't waste your breath.

"Some of you fail to see the good that is being done in Iraq...some of you are too wrapped up in your paranoid conspiracy riddled worlds to see the kind of good that's being done. "

The bad far outweighs the good, if you bother to look anywhere outside of the censored US media. Go on, give it a shot.

I have a question.

When do the 3000 lives lost on 9-11 stop being used as an excuse to KILL OTHERS? When even the FAMILIES of the dead on 9-11 DISAGREE?

And why is an American life so much more important than a foreigner when the American is almost certainly far dumber, far fatter, and more ignorant than his/her international counterpart, hmm?

Okay I just threw in the fat comment

I must say I am stunned by the sensibility of the large number of people here who have said that "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" is a foolish doctrine, and called for compassion and sanity. I can understand how easy it could be to get very very angry, and call for the blood of every Iraqi because of this. I can't really blame the other people who posted that, the feeling is natural.

But the number of people who posted to say "we must set a higher moral tone," really increases my faith in the U.S. and Americans. If every decision your country made was so compassionate, I have no doubt that the rest of the world would rally around you once again.

That being said, of course, there is nothing inhumane about capturing the people who beheaded this poor individual and putting them in jail for life, after a proper trial. I have no doubt that if America is seen to behave with justice and mercy, you can avoid creating further terrorists.

Forget not the words of the Holy Koran (5:8) : O you who believe! Be upright for Allah, bearers of witness with justice, and let not hatred of a people incite you not to act equitably; act equitably, that is nearer to piety, and he careful of (your duty to) Allah; surely Allah is Aware of what you do.

... and the Holy Bible (Matthew 5:7) : Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

(Proverbs 3:3) : Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart.

This thread is an amazing display of msunderstanding, venom, and blind hatred. (not all, but most of it). Apparently, the innocent Nick Berg was beheaded in retaliation for America's atrocities at Abu Ghraib and other places. So, in typical knee-jerk red-neck Billy-Bob fashion, many of you insist that we do the same by escalating our killings of innocent muslims in the Arab world. Take a moment, gather your thoughts, take a deep breath, think about what you stand for, what America used to stand for, what America's (non)leaders are abandoning for the sake of being a flash-in-the-pan super-duper power for a fleeting moment in history, just to keep our stupid SUV's gassed up, and other similar pointless nonesense. You all seem to think that when the Declaration of Independence says that "we hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal" it was referring only to the writers. Well, they didn't say, "We hold these truths to be self evident, we and anyone who eventually can claim to be an American are superior, and everyone else is inferior, and we can to do to them whatever we please, and take from them whatever we want, wherever we want, whenever we want, because only we have the rights and status declared by this document * * *" AMERICA HAS LOST IT'S MORAL GROUND. THAT HAPPENED A LONG TIME AGO. FOLKS, YOU CAN BRING IT BACK, BUT NOT WITH THE KIND OF OPINIONS, BELIEFS, AND SUGGESTIONS PUT FORTH BY MOST OF YOU ON THIS THREAD. We can only accomplish this by treating all people everywhere with dignity and respect. We need leaders who are not incorrigible liars and who have the courage to tell the truth freely rather than only when they've been caught in their lies and abuses. So many in this country claim to be Christians but, in truth, are not. You only preach Christian values, but rarely practice them. The Book says that honesty and truth are among the highest values held by the Christian God. God condemns liars in the most disapproving terms. Who practices the professed Christian values of honesty and truth? Surely, we rarely get a display of these values from our leaders. The bottom line that dictates our conduct seems to be to do whatever is most self-serving at the moment regardless of how that's achieved. Americans arrogantly hold that their way is the best way and that they hold the moral ground to justify shoving it down everyone else's throats. Sorry, folks. We have been showing the whole world just how thin our moral ground is. It's little wonder that others do not want American values, culture, and political processes imposed upon them.

As for the Arabs who appear to have murdered Mr. Berg, their acts are as wrong as the those of the murderers in our military and "intelligence" forces. Certainly his murder doesn't advance their cause. Rather, it just plays into the hands of those in the West who are clawing for a justification to remain their and escalate the horror that we are visiting upon their part of the planet. They just happen to unfortunate enough to be sitting atop some resources we want and lack to power to oppose us.

Am I cynical about what we've become? Yes! You ought to be cynical too.

woah!!! are some of you for real? do you really think that this was fake beheading?

I thought I was doubtful and mistrustful, but jeez...I can't even consider the idea of this being faked just to instigate more hatred...I watched the video, looked like a real beheading to me...but i wasn't looking for it to be a fake, I was more paying attention to see if any of the masked men were al-zaqwari

What old-fashioned ideas....wake up and join the 21st century.

Who is stronger? The man who lets his emotions rule him or the man who can throttle his emotions and quench the heat of passion with reason?

Good thoughts Alex.

I doubt it's a fake, but that 0.01% of doubt comes from the fact that there's a cut in the video from when they throw him onto the floor to where they start cutting.
That's a classic in the special effects business.

However, I really do believe this is real and the only reason I looked for this was because of my untrust of the media.

"we must set a higher moral tone,"

I agree, we should show our compassion for those who are still in DARWINS WAITING ROOM, maybe it's not their
fault that they hate EVERYONE who is not like them.

Who's Morals are the high ones? Mine, your's, someone wearing cloth on their head?

Islamic extremist are counting on you, the "Compassionate infidels" to make their jobs easier.
You're being used.

P.S.

Yesterday, I sent a "letter to the editor" to my local newspaper.
It was a call to Local Islamic leaders to express SOMETHING, ANYTHING about what happened to Mr. Berg. A little outrage would be good to hear from them.
Again, I'm not holding my breath.

I encourage others to send a letter to their local paper as well. Maybe someone somewhere will get a reaction?

thanks john nada, I think I understand now why some are doubtful after reading up a little more on their reasons for saying so.

I was just wondering something though, why is there so much outrage at this particular guy's death? Wasn't an Italian executed on video too? where was the major outrage then? Death is death, regardless by bombing, gunning, slicing, beheading whatever, there shouldn't be anymore outrage of one death over any other. Regardless of how Americans and Coalition soldiers and civilians are dying in Iraq, it should be the same outrage expressed for all.

Spacedoubt: "I agree, we should show our compassion for those who are still in DARWINS WAITING ROOM, maybe it's not their

Are you talking about those 5 guys in the execution video, or the American redneck faction? And what exactly makes you superior to anyone else? Americans kill other Americans all day every day for "being different" so back off on that one.

"Islamic extremist are counting on you, the "Compassionate infidels" to make their jobs easier.
You're being used."

Hey guess what, you're being used far more than I am. Compassion and understanding are going to get you further than your obvious fear and anger. By being compassionate, I will find more to identify with most Muslims, who are amongst the most compassionate people around, than with someone spewing hatred like you. Works for me.

And by the way, in the Muslim faith these guys committed a heinous sin by killing this man.

"Yesterday, I sent a "letter to the editor" to my local newspaper.
It was a call to Local Islamic leaders to express SOMETHING, ANYTHING about what happened to Mr. Berg. A little outrage would be good to hear from them.
Again, I'm not holding my breath. "

Um, WHY should "local Islamic leaders" express ANYTHING about what happened to this guy? Are all Muslims the exact same? If they don't condemn it does this mean they support it? What do you figure, that they think this is a good thing?

Should they also express anger that the US Army is killing innocent Muslims every day and holding people incommunicado for years at a time, or is that unacceptable, that they should only be apologizing for things?

Your post shows your fear and unfortunately, a little bit of ignorance. Stop thinking you or your country or your religion are the best, most important things in the world and you'll be on the right track.

If you weren't so scared, maybe you would actually go meet these "Islamic leaders" and find out what they think and share what you think.

Or you can be a coward and write a letter to the editor of a newspaper who doesn't give a flying fig.

You made your choice.

My opposition to the war in Iraq still remains the same.

Iraq deserved Saddam Hussein. The Arab world deserves brutal dictators.

This is the former Mesopotamia, the land of Hammurabbi. The code, you knw the deal. An Eye for an Eye. This is all these idiots and savages understand: the sword.

American military embarrassed a few prisoners. Made them get naked and pose for the camera. So, they respond with beheadings. Typical.

Cant you pro war idiots get it through your fat stupid heads these people are incapable of reason, logic, and humanity? Since your arguement that weapons of mass destruction as a reason for invasion has been shot out of the water, youre only left with the whole :bringing Freedom and Love" excuse.

You think these morons are capable of it? No.

They should have been left to murdering each other in the name of thier religion for the mentally and emotionally retarded.

Democracy will never work for such people. So, we are left with thier oil. Is thier oil worth this? Especially when we have alternatives that we could use?

WE cut off the middle east, israel included, completely. These animals will starve to death and return to thier natural state of being: savagery fueled by thier substandard inhuman religion. We return home. Christ-Insanity, thankfully, is on the decline in the west, eventually, we can become godless. And more advanced, ocne we ditch tribal alien religions.

The beheading of this young man goes to show you Bush lovers that there is no possibility of comprimise or finishing the scheister job the prez started out to do. We wont even get oil.

I dont feel bad at all now about the humiliations and abuse inflicted by our troops. Its all a cog in the machine. My only regret is that we didnt do worse. We need that fuel, were mired too much in a standoff right now. We need the chaos to go at a faster rate if we hope to ever get out in one piece.

It can all work in the end. Well simply have to let things be and run thier own course. This will crucify Bush, thankfully.

You may have a point there. Maybe it takes the fear of a murderous dictator to keep them in line. Maybe it's the only way, for them. Maybe we've just unleashed total chaos by removing Saddam, who may have been the threat they needed.
