Obama 'Joker' Poster Causing a Stir in L.A.

www.ktla.com

Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson is calling the depiction, politically mean spirited and dangerous.

Hutchinson is challenging the group or individual that put up the poster to have the courage and decency to publicly identify themselves.

"Depicting the president as demonic and a socialist goes beyond political spoofery," says Hutchinson, "it is mean-spirited and dangerous."

"We have issued a public challenge to the person or group that put up the poster to come forth and publicly tell why they have used this offensive depiction to ridicule President Obama?"

Here we go. The media will no doubt jump on this is start a campaign to convince Americans this is a racist right wing attack on a black man. Of course none of these people had a problem with "Kill Bush" memorabilia, constant references to Bush as a racist fascist or even the same sort of posters being made of Bush in Vanity Fair Magazine.

Once again, the Liberals/Democrats/MSM can dish it out, but they cant take it. The only thing "dangerous" about this is the way this man is using his position to threaten people's 1st amendment rights.

lol I think the posters are cool, although I'd say Obama is more of a Two Face or whatever his name is rather than the joker (I know hes more like the joker I guess but I'm sure yall know what I mean by Two Face). Its probably just some street/graffiti artist putting them up and theres no way in hell he'll come out and show his face. I don't see this as racist or anything either, I'm black and it doesn't bother me lol. People are so quick to jump on the racist bandwagon when ever somethings said about their messiah Obama lol. Just watch later today there will be posts in here calling this racist probably. How is this "mean spirited" when bush was in office all over tv and stuff everyone was joking about him and talking #, and no one called that mean spirited.

And how is this dangerous? Its the freaking truth in its simplest form if that makes sense. Its simple and straight to the point.

I wasn't a fan of bush just as much as I'm not a fan of Obama, but if was okay to have "kill bush" and "dump dubya" bumper stickers and signs everywhere, I see no problem with this!

Why do they need a reason for depicting Obama the way they did?

We don't live in a dictatorship(yet). There needs to be no explanation, if I used that thing between my ears the logical conclusion would be that whoever is making these posters see Obama as a murderous lunatic.

I'd also imagine that the guy won't come forward, could be wrong, just for the simple fact they are already acting in rage over this why would he want to subject himself to a smear campaign already getting started for expressing his freedom of expression.

Sure there are consequences, but the person or persons haven't gotten caught so he is also employing his anonymity. This guy needs to take a chill pill, if Obama is so fragile that he can't bare a few novelty posters then he needs to step down and resign.

Nobody seemed to care when Vanity Fair did a much better rendition of Bush as the Joker.

Why the outrage when its Obama?

Nobody in the media was up in arms about Bush being called a monkey and making fun of him in such ways.

At least the joker is somewhat cool.

It's due to ignorance really. Anyone who tries to question him is labeled a Racist by others. It's very odd, but it's how it is. I blame the PC crowd for this one. Also, he can get away with a lot more.

We want equality, but we have something else nowadays.

The joker poster is awesome, because it questions his character, and mocks his character. Not his race.

Anyone who calls the race card on this one is ignorant. It's the Joker people.

In relating news, I bought this shirt months ago:

I love zombies, and loves the image. But due to people's ignorance I can not safely wear it, on fear of being beaten. Why? Ignorance.

Except it's not really causing a stir at all, is it ?

And wonder where the trail will lead if the origin, printing, distribution etc. of those posters is investigated ? I'm thinking hot, dry, aggressive little place that doesn't get on with any of its neighbours ....

I'm with you and this guy is probably some graffiti artist and from knowing a few of them from my travels; they will never go public. However, I don't see what the big fuss is over these anyway. I thought we had freedom of speech and expression? That may change at the rate things are going, but last I checked, we stilled have that liberty. Their is nothing derogatory being mentioned with these posters and certainly not a threat to the President. I think that urban policy planner wants this guy to come forward so that they can make a media circus out of this and destroy the guy.

lmao that shirts cool! F what people think, just wear it! I know what you mean though so many Obamabots claim to be peaceful liberals but if you insult the messiah they get violent! I live in liberal CA and I've literally been attacked for openly speaking about Obama. Hell, I've had white people call me racist and I'm black! I'm dead serious too, its hilarious. And I'm not against liberals, I have certain liberal views too, but its still funny.

I think they are just mad they voted for him and hes nothing like they thought he'd be. They are afraid to admit they made a mistake. Thats their own fault though, they voted for him, I sure as hell didn't!

People call you a racist because you disagree with the Presidents policy and you are part of his ethnic group? What is even more interesting is that white people are calling you a bigot. Now that is the twilight zone. How can anyone be racist if they disagree with a political stance or policy? I think your critics got things twisted. Don't bother trying to correct their error because I have found the holier than thou Obamaites to be a quite stubborn bunch. Here is a video below you might enjoy.

Well tbh I am half white and I think they are trying to insinuate I hate my "black side" or something. Why would I hate my own people? lol I've mostly grown up around black people and I'm married to a black girl.

Its still hillarious having a white person call me racist when you can look at me and immediatly tell I'm part black from my skin and facial features..etc.

A lot of these people when they can't argue they pull out the race card with the quickness! "yeah, well, you are a racist!". lmao, yeah right, uh oh you got me! A lot of them always use the "you can't accept a black president" thing. When in reality I'd love to see a black president, as long as hes a man of the people as they say, and Obama is far from that, imo.

And I'll watch that vid when I get home, I'm at work ATM.

Peace

The tradition of mocking political leaders and people of notoriety goes back for centuries, but thankfully in the U.S. it's protected as free speech.

I support this kind of editorial whether it's Obama or Bush.

That said, I do think it's meant to have racist overtones. The history of blackface/whiteface is controversial. The use of the joker meme on Bush wasn't as startling because he's white.

However, I think the more interesting question is who made this image?

Because coming on the heels the Gates incident and in the middle of the HealthScare initiative and all the "socialism" that implies as well as the Birth Certificate debate, I have to wonder if this isn't some sort of double fake, meme-driving publicity stunt to make Obama critics look bad.

But maybe my tin-hat is just on too tight today. Maybe it is just a fed up citizen.

I think you're reading way too much in to it. How are you connecting black face to the joker's face paint? To me, its clearly meant to look like a clown. If Obama's DNA made him look more like a white guy, would you still say this had racial implications?

I was a Bush supporter (yes, I am not afraid to admit it) and some of the jokes, images, whatever were fricking hilarious! I would absolutely love to listen to the man speak because there was always a gem in there somewhere.

People really need to chill out.

Maybe I am. But I tend to think race is where they want the argument.

I'm not saying it's racist because I'm indignant or offended. My point is - What hot buttons are likely to be pushed by the image? IMO, the answer is race.

If we focus on having that argument then maybe we are being lead where they want us to go rather than paying attention to what's really going on.

Apparently this guy doesn't read or watch the news. I think the poster is funny; Totalitarianism would be the better word, see if this definition doesn't ring some bells....

Totalitarianism (or totalitarian rule) is a political system where the state recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever feasible[2]. Totalitarianism is generally characterized by the coincidence of authoritarianism (i.e., where ordinary citizens have no significant share in state decision-making) and ideology (i.e., a pervasive scheme of values promulgated by institutional means to direct the most significant aspects of public and private life)[3]. Totalitarian regimes or movements maintain themselves in political power by means of an official all-embracing ideology and propaganda disseminated through the state-controlled mass media, a single party that controls the state, personality cults, control over the economy, regulation and restriction of free discussion and criticism, the use of mass surveillance, and widespread use of state terrorism.
