I personally do not believe in any of the Gods theorized in modern religion. nothing you say will change my mind. since you are Christian what would you say to those who follow Buda, or those who are Hindu, are they wrong because you are right?

[edit on 2/8/09 by elarmstrongo]

Like I said, everyone thinks they're right and others who don't follow THEIR religion are wrong.

It's quite sad...and Pathetic.

All it would take for me is to have God answer one prayer directly. For God to give some direct action with his own presence. Not through a Christian, Jew or anyone else. By "Him."

Seems simple enough doesnt it?

One single prayer.

Ill do it now. God save this child:
African Chidlren with AIDS

Lurdes is a HopeChild  living in a community severely affected by the HIV and AIDS crisis. In Mozambique, the disease has impacted the entire social structure, creating a generation of orphans and vulnerable children. Lurdes needs your assistance to help save her generation from the HIV and AIDS crisis. Lurdes has been reserved for you to sponsor within the next five minutes. Just click the "Sponsor Now" button above to become her sponsor right now!

It doesnt have to be my prayer. It can be anyones. But I want a full accounting of it with witnesses.

Or if God desires to be worshipped the way some do. Make me understand why, and that these people are correct in their interpretations of your will.

Another simple task for an omnipotent being...

What amount of logic do you need to understand God is your creator?

Very simply put, there is currently, absolutely NO proof of ANY God(s). The concept of any God(s) is the exact opposite of logic. As with anything science cannot disprove, there always exists a very, very, very small possibility that that something could exist (say, for instance, an asteroid floating around somewhere in the universe that looks exactly like a bust of Morgan Freeman).

Most theists were born, raised, indoctrinated, brain-washed into believing certain things, they were then told that to question these things will surely result in severe eternal punishment. Objective analysis of this belief is, therefore, impossible for this person. They succumb to the "logic" of emotion and the gut feeling that there HAS to be something out there, a feeling, which they fail to recognize, can exist without there actually being something out there.

Most theists argue that their specific Holy Book proves the existence of their God(s), and yet, a vast majority choose to wholly ignore, deny, pick-and-choose what they want to believe from their Holy Book. The perspectives of the most confused people often argue FOR capital punishment but AGAINST abortion or vice versa. The most LOGICAL perspectives would be either for both or against both.

Well I will be willing to accept that statement as long as you are willing to explain what you believe or what type and amount of evidence would be sufficient for you to consider or call a being a God.
Fair enough.
I call myself Catholic (more complicated anyway lets say Catholic) ,but I respect the others beliefs as long as they respect mine...Believing in God that manifests Himself as person dont makes me think that He needs Federal Certificate license or authorization, even from so extensive commission as Yours, to do His "job"...
Its like if the children from elementary school try to test a professor, but the disproportion is a bit bigger...
What we need to believe in God? I doubt that anyone here will convince anyone else, some may even question the Winner of your God-competition...
Anyway its Simple: in the universe of entropia there is Life, taking more and more complicated forms. I think its proof enough in itself. It seems that the phisics works in favor of Life...why??
We live in His shadow, even the discusions here are some kind of proof...Othervise whats use of all that stones and stars turning in the emptiness, whats use of existence of all that funny beings hammering restlessly on their keyboards...

This is what it will take, when it is to late for most.

1st Thessalonians 4:16-17
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
and

There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

I am Alpha and Omega

That wouuld probably do it for me.

Jesus Christ! Actually that's the name of a guy who never existed! God? Well that's the same. God is actually the sun. All religions have done is turned all this devotion to the sun to a guy and a creator which is all rubbish.

So you ask what will it take for me to believe in God? How can I either way when the concept of God is fiction?!!!

You don't know that.

I mean I don't believe in a monotheistic God either, but I don't KNOW he doesn't exist, I just have an educated opinion.

Don't go around suggesting your know what's after this life, or what higher entity/power exists or doesn't, your only human and not equipped to understand such a thing.

If you're born in the western world, you'd be worshipping Jesus. If you lived in the Middle East, you'd worship Muhammed.

Islam is better than Christianity. But wait, isn't Christianity better than Islam?

What? Homosexual sex is wrong? What? Slavery alright? Do you really want to follow something so corrupt and flawed? And just plain...stupid.

Your God is just another mythical legend. I hate to say it but there is no heaven or hell. Instead, we live in both of them.

What did it take me to believe?

Having my world utterly destroyed with no friends or family willing or able to help. Being brought to my knees where there was nothing, absolutely nothing that was going to be able to solve my problems but blind faith. Having a choice between suicide or "letting go and letting God". Being left with nothing and yet still having the faith go get up and go on.

I don't think.....I "know" there was a benevolent force who always managed to provide what I needed to dig myself out of that very very deep hole. I owe every breath I take to him/her/it.

Perhaps we were interbred with Aliens long ago. So what? Who created the aliens? What difference does it make? There is something bigger at work here than that.

It's funny how we can't separate religion from God. We assume that with God comes a necessary belief in Jesus and the Bible. Why? We're in the 21st century where Atheism and Agnosticism are preferred over organized religions, or as a way to shun God or some superior intelligent essence.

It couldn't take anything physical to make anyone believe in God. We're too skeptical. One member said it'd take the disappearance of an object, teleportation, etc. under heavy scrutiny of a highly educated group of scientists. That wouldn't work. Do you think it would? You'd leave the room where the feats were performed baffled, angered and doubtful. Naturally you would question what you saw, making you believe it less and less. "Surely this is a ruse. No one could have done that!" you'd think.

Obviously religion isn't a path to take: it's corrupt! fake! evil! people say. Something that creates ignorance and wars should never be trusted. Our problem here is that religion, as we've termed it, never created war and ignorance, humanity did. Its message was lost a long time ago and, even if we did retrieve it, no longer has a place in our current times.

If anyone were to believe in God, it'd take something spiritual, something within the mind. Although there will be plenty of people who'd blame the experience on hallucinations (even if they were fine and without drugs).

I've always thought about how the universe was created and how we perceive it. Science tells us our universe rides on a thin line, that we're lucky to be here. In a book called "Holographic Universe" the author speaks of how some scientists say we create the world as we view it. Maybe all of what we see was premeditated? Should it have been in order for us to see it? If it wasn't, would there be anything to exist? Or do these things just unfold in front of our eyes? If it does unfold in front of us, then we're all "lucky" I guess you can say because even if creation didn't happen, it wouldn't have mattered.

Do we need a creator to make life more meaningful? Whether God made it or not, it doesn't mean we have to believe in God. We're here, but where's God? That gives us reason to not believe. And living is enough work, why do we have to worry ourselves about how we'll make up for it after we're done? Until God can assure people they won't be sent to Heaven or Hell, they'll continue to favour Atheism.

All in all, it's going to be hard to convince people God exists. It's much easier to say God doesn't.

God's influence is a paradox, similar to the game "Simon Says". Simon tells you to move a certain part of your body and so you respond. However, over time, you react without the command of Simon. Mistakenly thinking he did.

In other words, my metaphor concludes, how do you know God is influencing you? You cannot tell. Atheism is, if you like, the default setting. We see the world effected by the lies and consequences of human behaviour. No creator. Just humans and other animals.

IF there is a god, he is not benevolent or caring towards the human race or other species within this Earth. History disproves that part of the theory.

This thread is nonsense. One must have faith in order to believe in God and then your just delusional because their is still no proof. The only reason you believe in God is because your scared of Hell. If there is an almighty creator it won't punish you for seeking the truth.

I guess you could believe in the fact of random events happening all the time and that life is one of those events, and that there is no greater meaning, and no master plan. No God.

However, we do know this - Life Exists.

I think that we don't really know anything, and if there's people out there in other solar systems, I'm sure they're looking for "God" too.
I'm sure that every single life form in the whole Universe is looking for God, looking to get back to "the source", to find out the great truth out there, to be one with all that there is.

If there's a God, we must be a part of that concept, of that greater entity. I think we need to forget our old religious dogmas and focus on what our future has in store. We can't even begin to understand the Universe, for, we call 75% of all space "Dark Matter" or "Dark Energy". The ants, can't really understand what a mountain is.

As Stephen Hawking always says "where there's life - there's hope".

What would it take for me to believe in an all mighty creator

Well for once i do believe that their is a main source of everything in existence, and that being created by one or many entities.

I do however do not beleive in any of these hogwash religions out there.

I do understand their influence in culture, and without it, i dont know where the human race would be without it.

It would take a miracle of (god) in any religion for me to believe in it. for now i am believing in a source of creation, not bound to any deity you read in an old book written by man.

God being real? Possibly.

ANY religion being real? No way Jose!

The only reason I believe a God might exist is because the artificial intelligence we make might have some sort of a thought process, even down the road.

But they will never be as smart as us, or know something that we do not.

So, we could be the robots to some other type of "human".

THAT is the only idea in my mind that gives any light to a god existing. A god in terms to someone/thing who is just extraordinarily smarter than all of us, but not almighty.
