And just how advanced do you think North Korea's military is? A country that can't feed its people and is completely isolated. North Korea spends less on its military than Norway, yet their military is quite a bit larger. So, per soldier their spending is even less.

North Korea is a formidable foe because they have been preparing for this for a long, long time. They are entrenched but they are far from invincible.

did you at least read the link i posted?

the NK is far from being fed as your Media tell you...they have been eating and not only that...stocking food for the incoming war

I have a huge problem with this NK is starving mantra. I watched that documentary about children starving in NK. It was a complete and utter joke. It showed a few kids scrounging around on the ground meanwhile there were tons of baskets of food with adults sitting all around them. WTF? These circumstances are not unique to kids in NK they are unique to kids all over the world even right here in America. Thousands of people starve to death in the USA. Including children. It's terrible and heartbreaking but starving orphans kids exist all over the world even in first world countries. There is so much propaganda regarding NK it's hilarious.

A land invasion by America of N.Korea is not possible.I dont think the American public would be able to stomach hundreds of thousands of American soldiers coming home in body bags.Anyway,i have already said before that i don't think this situation will even come close to war.

Many mistakes in that article. It claims for an example, that T-62 has a gun of 155mm. In reality it is just 115mm. Seems to be exaggerating North Korean capabilities heavily.

It is basically just BS to say that T-62 would be a more advanced tank than M1.

The valid point that Jerico65, the self-described porn star, makes in his post is that the US are there in the south to slow any invasion...speed bumps, indeed. I don't figure they are expected to attack the north from those positions. The States would be nuts to engage them, like I said, they have big guns and can play for keeps.

I do not think a land invasion of NK is a possibility, the same with Russia and China. Their standing armies exceed the million mark and they are well equipped. Also they would be defending their homeland so it would be every bit as costly as the Japanese invasion during WW2. I think America is waiting for a missle launch at either Japan or Hawai then the nukes will fly and that will be the end of that. I have said on other friends that this would be the begining of WW3 however I am now unsure. The attitude and ignorance NK has shown to America and even to its own allies giving it advise mean this will be a fight on their own and hopefully the end of the sorry excuse for a country.

But it would not be pretty and it would be a war that America probably couldn't stomach. Plus, Kim Jong Il should have been taken out years ago and could have. There is a reason NK is still around making threats.

Yes, and what happens if Kim Jong Il is "taken out"? Don't you think that the NK generals would just go berserk. The article exactly stated that their military is organized into independent units that can function without a central leader.

Well maybe China of all places is starting to play ball... I wonder what the big deal was at the Pentagon and why have that high of a meeting militarily with China? I think they may have gotten spooked.

www.reuters.com

BEIJING (Reuters) - China shares the region's "serious concerns" about a nuclear North Korea and urged all parties to keep negotiating, a senior Chinese military officer said Wednesday after talks with Pentagon officials.

Lieutenant-General Ma Xiaotian did not announce any new measures against Pyongyang, but said Beijing was concerned about North Korea, which staged a second nuclear test on May 25, prompting new U.N. sanctions.

"For the regional security of northeast Asia, the North Korean nuclear issue is not only a serious concern for the United States and neighboring South Korea a

China working with US to avoid sea confrontations

BEIJING (AP) — The Chinese and U.S. militaries will work together to avoid confrontations at sea that have sparked worries of a crisis in overall relations, a top Chinese military officer said Wednesday.

The issue was at the center of their first high-level military talks in 18 months after a series of recent naval encounters — including a collision of a Chinese submarine and a U.S. sonar device — that have raised concerns about poor communication between the two sides.

It could be that the US and China realize war with NK is coming and neither wants it to spread to other parties. I wouldn't be surprised if China is saying 'look with have a treaty with them if you attack first we have to help them but if you let them attack first then we won't get involved.'

A loose cannon is a loose cannon, and if NK is getting a little scary, then China has something to fear as well. Now that they have nukes, the north could be straining against its leash. Let's not forget, either, that it is only the media and our propaganda-meisters that say NK is actually a crazy state. One always dehumanises the enemy, first.

What's to say they aren't spot-on about Western hegemony? Because they're Godless commies? Seems we don't attack commies any more.

OR....

China gets a huge chunk of it's oil from Iran. We are in Iraq and Afghanistan. Iran may be crumbling from the inside. I think they see the writing on the wall. No ticky no oily. They play ball about North Korea, Iran goes back to it's little bit of paradise and their economic boom can feed on Iranian oil. If not their boom goes bust. China is desperate for oil....

We aren't worried about NK "big guns" since we have them too. The worry about the NK big guns is that they have a lunatic behind the trigger. That give us a bit of a pause.

Something that posters here on ATS might be missing:

1. It's the NK that's been threatening invasion, etc, not the US. NK decided that the cease fire wasn't valid, NK threatened to wipe the US off the map.

2. My opinion is if there is any invasion, it will be the North coming south (if the US does any sort of "invasion", it will be with JDAMs and cruise missiles). If the NK does invade, they will be facing the US Army and the SK Army.

The ROK Army are some tough SOBs and they will be fighting on their home ground protecting their families. The SK and US Army will take losses, but I know that the NK Army will be filling body bags by the truckload.

3. The First Korean War was a UN action. If there's any fighting there again, I'm willing to bet it will involve a fair amount of countries, not just the US and SK. Especially since NK is violating UN resolutions.

I read this whole thread before I actually clicked on the original article. Rense. That rag is nothing but a fear mongering blog full of made up information and "scary stuff." I'm not discounting North Korea, I'm just taking the original source for what it's worth: "Poo on a stick."

N. Korea is trying to push every last threat button that they can find including this latest threat to annihilate the US. They move they have left is at this point is to Triple Dog Dare the U. S. into crossing the line. There is no turning back from a Triple Dog Dare threat. N.Korea has nothing to lose and only notoriety to gain.

We won't invade NK unless it is absolutely necessary. If we do it --- it will be a blood bath, and could escalate into a nuclear exchange. The casualties will be enormous for combatants and civilians. The thing that truly frightens me, all that artillery aimed at Seoul and 1.2 million soldiers. Just those two thing alone givs me the chills.

This engagement will be no cake walk. We never know about China either because they are always the odd man out in conflicts. Heck, General MacArthur didn't even see them coming when the crossed the Yalu River. As a matter of fact, General MacArthur wanted to nuke China, and as a result; he got relieved of his command by Truman.

Take a look at the links below. The first is speculation by the Department of Defense regarding war scenarios on the Korean Peninsula. I must warn you, the report is very long; but important to the discussion at hand. I have also included an old CNN article about war with Korea from 1994 during the Clinton administration.

First things first for China and always has been...*stability and control* N.korea being invaded would result in chaos for China and the region.I dont think even China would bow to America when it comes to this.I dont know what China,Russia and the USA are discussing behind closed doors right now.But i can bet my left pinky an invasion is the last thing on the list and China would make itself heard if people are actually thinking about doing it.As for Russia, while still next door neighbours...i think they are looking from a distance and seeing how it plays out before jumping in to the deep end...political rhetoric from countries is about as concrete as marshmallows. That goes for N.Korea and the rest of the countries mentioned.China isn't going to sell out N.korea though and im 95% sure of that.

The US will not attack North Korea because there is no point.

North Korea is on of our worlds nut-case nations, run by a buffoon in a nation starved and supressed.

When the crack-pot dictator/tyrant/meglomanic Kim Jong-Il kicks the bucket I can only hope the nation changes.

North Korea is contained and behind all the rhetoric is impotent, in the same way as Iran is contained.

I kind of like the Pentagon's response:

"I don't even know how to respond to that. It's silliness," said Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell."For what and with what?"

Comedy gold.
