Jackie Chan Says 'Chinese Need to Be Controlled'

www.foxnews.com

The 55-year-old Hong Kong actor was participating in a panel at the annual Boao Forum when he was asked to discuss censorship and restrictions on filmmakers in China. He expanded his comments to include society.
"I'm not sure if it's good to have freedom or not," Chan said. "I'm really confused now. If you're too free, you're like the way Hong Kong is now. It's very chaotic. Taiwan is also chaotic."
Chan added: "I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we're not being controlled, we'll just do what we want."

I’m shocked and disappointed at J.C.
Sure, he’s got a right to his own opinion - at least here in the States - and it seems when he’s speaking in China - (as long as he's in accord with the wishes of the Chinese PTB)...

But for someone as high profile as J.C to advocate censorship, control, communism? You can bet it wouldn't have gotten news in China had he spoken against censorship...

I wonder if he can even see the irony?

An overwhelming number of people all over the world feel this way. Unless they're in a little cell with bars they freak out and become quivering piles of useless.

How else could it be that the natural born state of liberty would have such an impossible battle in this day and age?

That's very sad indeed. What's wrong with being able to do what you want? (Without hurting anyone else, of course.)

Scary that in this day and age people still think like this. "Need to be controlled." Sheesh.

Very good (and disturbing) point.
Now I’m even more depressed than before.

I’ve always really enjoyed Jackie Chan and his movies.
I guess I wont be watching any more of them.

For him to suck up the cash and fame off first and foremost American’s then to turn and kick them in the groin just really makes me see red...(In more ways than one)...

My shock is wearing off, disappointment turning to real anger.

The thing that people need is to be self governing! Know your own limits and to have empathy around others. In today's society it is literally a Dog Eat Dog world!

I remember getting into and accident a couple of months ago. I rear-ended a woman taking off her bumber. There were 2 cars behind me, and when i hit the lady and rear-ended her THEY DID NOT EVEN STOP TO SEE IF WE WERE ALRIGHT. WHat if i accidently killed both of us, these people that were behind me were the only people on the rode except the woman i hit for about 2-5min till other cars started driving by.

They saw i hit the woman, and they just basically kept driving. Didn't even figure to maybe stop their cars and come see if we are alright.

In todays world, i am sorry to say but we do need rules. Like Jackie said, everything is chaotic, and no one gives a damn about anybody else. Well there are people that do, but the majority dont give a S@^*.

Most of us are egotistical monsters that need to be controlled.

I dont want someone telling me what to do. People need to learn self control and stop relying on others on how they should act.

Most people need to be a sheep. That makes it rubbish for the rest of us.

I wonder what chinese locked up in prison for no reason feel?

Yep, no person should be telling anyone how to live there lifes, in the west this is getting looney levels.

Pure scum, always the bullies get to government jobs, and try to wreck peoples lifes, and they should look at themselves.

I think the scene at about 2:16 says it best.
"Ain't nobody understand the word's that are coming out of your mouth"

I guess some people would choose chaos over civility.

Oh no, no Jackie Chan... No... I too liked his movies... Until now.

How could you think its not good to have freedom, Jackie?

Maybe he's living under a threat by China. Hong Kong belongs to China now as well as its people.

Difficult times ahead. We have an organized minority who doesn't want freedom and a disorganized majority who want freedom.

.... If we're not being controlled, we'll just do what we want.

And this is very, very bad of course...

That is why we have laws - so that we could do what we want without doing damage to others. No need for beurocrats to control us.
And as for Jackie Chan, i do not understand why you all got upset. He is a good actor, i think he even directed few movies too (also good ones) - so if he says something about acting, movie industry or martial arts - i think that we should listen to what he says. But since he is not politician, philosopher or lawmaker - then he can say what he wants of course - but it has no more value then any other person.
But he is entitled to his own opinion, no need to boycot him for this.

Jackie Chan just blew his cover. He has revealed himself as a shill for the NWO. Check his genealogy. He's probably related the Li family.

Exactly.
I'll just choose not to throw my good pennies after bad now.
Which is a shame cause I really enjoy(ed) his work.

Oh well them's the breaks.

peace

I blame the media,it seems to me that everyone thinks everyone else is out to get them in some way or another. When the populace becomes paranoid, they either a) want to stock up on their own protection ie guns etc or b) want the government to protect them via a number of means. Here in the UK if i ask my neighbours or friends they seem to think there's a paedophile or rapist or murderer in every street corner waiting to pounce.People have lost faith in the people..thats what this problem boils down to.

Well you missed the best part of that story... down at the bottom of the page he said Chinese goods still have too many quality problems
Speaking fast with his voice rising, Chan said, "If I need to buy a TV, I'll definitely buy a Japanese TV. A Chinese TV might explode."

The sad part is he's right, at least about buying there goods

It's very simple

all the tptb need to do is paint a chaotic picture
it's that simple

if you control what people see and read, you control how they think

I say this with respect and curiosity only: has anyone here ever been to China?

Maybe he has a point and just worded it too bluntly. The merchandise: how many recalls have we had in just the past few years from items from China? Not just because they didn't work, but because they were toxic in one form or another.

And the sad truth is that groups of people need to be controlled and will lose their way without domination. Cult members are an extreme example.

In the US, we've had 'freedom' waved over us for so long, it is a source of pride for us: "Land of the Free!" Maybe we don't understand the Chinese culture well enough to grasp what Chan was saying, and are instead replacing our frame of mind culture for theirs, thus thinking that what Chan said was horrible.

I've never been to China or Hong Kong, or Taiwan for that matter. So I don't know.

There is certainly no chaos in a Jackie Chan movie.

Jackie of all people should know that people love a little disorder once in a while. Imagine a Jackie Chan movie where everyone did just as they are told.

Straight to DVD to trashbin. IMHO.

Wow I too am shocked by this. I wonder how close the original meaning in chinese is to how it was translated to english though. But really thats a hard thing to misinterpret huh?

Jackie Chan has never known freedom, he grew up as a child in a communist nation and in the gruelingly difficult chinese dance schools (as did Jet Li, and many movie-martial-artists) as basically a child slave, where he was obviously good enough to catch a chinese movie-maker's attention.

As a public figure and moviestar of China, how much pressure do you think he is under to keep his responses aligned with the chinese government's agenda? Much more pressure than we will ever know for sure.
