Seriously, this is just amazing. Slavery in the South? It was instituted in the northern colonies first.

Racism? Go to Bordentown NJ some evening and turn on the CB if you wanna hear racism. You won't find anywhere in the South that comes close to that.

You're right we're not the "Real America"... we used to be before a bunch of Yankees moved down here and started trying to change things.

As I see it, the big difference between the Northeast and the South boils down to self-sufficiency. We can survive woth no help, doing things on our own... while you Yankees appear to need government assistance to wipe yourselves. Now that's a generalization and certainly does not apply to everyone who lives north of the Mason-Dixon line, but I'd be willing to bet it applies to the OP.

I've seen the whole country (except the Northwest ), intimately. I have friends all across this land, from rural Alabama to Southern California and New York City. The cultures from one area to another are very different. What is acceptable in New York would be considered abominable in Alabama, and vice versa. That's not to say one is better than the other in some way, but that the two are different. For instance, try spitting in New York sometime; they just don't like that! Come to Alabama, and you'll see everyone spitting on the ground. Walk around with a shotgun across your shoulder in Alabama, and people might actually look at you; try it in NY and you'll be surrounded by a SWAT team within 30 seconds. In NY you can cuss your neighbor out for any reason at anytime, and all he'll do is cuss back. Try that in some areas of Alabama and you've got a fight to the death on your hands.

So if you're so narrow-minded that you can't accept that others live different lives than you do, I only ask you do me one favor: STAY UP NORTH! We don't want you here any more than you want to be here.

Of course, everyone realizes the reason for the thread was to grab some of those oh-so-valuable points, right?

Yes, here is a good description of these acts

Lord Goschen, spokesman of the Financiers, wrote in the London Times (Quote taken from Who Rules America by C. K. Howe, and reproduced in Lincoln Money Martyred by Dr. R. E. Search):

“If this mischievous financial policy, which has its origin in North America, shall become indurated down to a fixture, then that Government will furnish its own money without cost. It will pay off debts and be without a debt. It will have all the money necessary to carry on its commerce. It will become prosperous without precedent in the history of the world. That Government must be destroyed, or it will destroy every monarchy on the globe.” (The monarchy of the money lenders.)

First, in order to cast discredit on the Greenbacks, the bankers persuaded Congress to vote, in February of 1862, the “Exception Clause”, which said that the Greenbacks could not be used to pay the interest on the national debt, nor to pay taxes, excises, or import duties. Then, in 1863, having financed the election of enough Senators and Representatives, the bankers got the Congress to revoke the Greenback Law in 1863, and enact in its place the National Banking Act. (Money was then to be issued interest-bearing by privately-owned banks.)

This Act also provided that the Greenbacks should be retired from circulation as soon as they came back to the Treasury in payment of taxes. Lincoln heatedly protested, but his most urgent objective was to win the war and save the Union, which obliged him to put off till after the war the veto he was planning against this Act and the action he was to take against the bankers. Lincoln nevertheless declared:

“I have two great enemies, the Southern army in front of me and the bankers in the rear. And of the two, the bankers are my greatest foe.”

Lincoln was re-elected President in 1864, and he made it quite clear that he would attack the power of the bankers, once the war was over. The war ended on April 9, 1865, but Lincoln was assassinated five days later, on April 14. A tremendous restriction of credit followed, organized by the banks: the currency in circulation in the country, which was, in 1866, $1,907 million, representing $50.46 for each American citizen, had been reduced to $605 million in 1876, representing $14.60 per capita. The result: in ten years, 56,446 business failures, representing a loss of $2 billion. And as if this was not enough, the bankers reduced the per capita currency in circulation to $6.67 in 1887!

That's a great piece of history, conveniently left out of the majority of texts. Kennedy attempted similar, with similar results.

I think we can all agree that the federal government is hopelessly entangled in financial indemnity to TPTB. Any legitimate attempt at a real solution is promptly swept under the carpet.

On Topic: IMO, having the South secede does not seem like a good idea to me. There is safety in numbers.

Besides, we can't even secure our current borders.

Novel idea about 200 years too late.

( BTW, I live in Florida and we rely on those nice Yankee tourist dollars.)

The OP is wrong.

It's not so much the north/south against each other.

It's urban areas versus rural areas.

If you haven't noticed...if you look at a map...red states are directly in the middle of the country..the least populated part of the country.

It's about population density. City vs. country...and it's in every state.

Trying to draw an imaginary line of north/south is ridiculous.

It's okay though, everyone here in Georgia has an "interesting" relative that makes ridiculous proclamations and practically ruins get-togethers, so we know just how to handle this situation.

Maybe when you're feeling a little better you'd like to take a little canoe trip down the Cahulawassee River? It always delivers an interesting time, to say the least.

Dunno about that. I lived near Huntsville AL for 9 years. It got pretty darn thick with it around there... and that was supposedly an area of 'brilliance in a sea of ignorance'. First week I was there I was asked to a Klan Meeting. Of course, the person doing the asking never asked again once I said I was Catholic.

What I like about living in the mid Atlantic is that everyone here minds his or her own business. In Alabama I got so damn tired of hearing 'so what church do you go to' everytime I met someone new. They all had to pigeon hole ya'. And the Baptists, Church of Christ, Pentacostals, etc ... ALL said that everyone was going to hell except for them. It was pretty ignorant.

I met a guy who seemed real nice. He even seemed kind of intelligent. then we started talking religion. He is of the belief that if you were not saved in HIS church, you were going to hell. He went to church in a small town called Godwin NC. Ther might have been 50 active members in his church at the time. When I finally picked my jaw up, I asked him if maybe he was wrong about that. He imphatically said nope. I asked him If Jesus Christ had been a member of his church, then I wandered off. I thought those people were just stories, I never new they were for real.

Two actually, there's a Pilot and a Petro next to each other. The Petro also has a small truck driving academy on the back side of their lot. They were nice enough to let me drop a trailer there for a couple days a few times. Decent food in the Petro Iron Skillet, and plenty of trucker amenities as well. The Pilot has a Wendy's and seriously tight parking.

I've been there a few times. Truck driver. There's no real parking anywhere north of that until you hit Connecticut, and that's even a bit sparse.

The slurs and innuendos you hear on the CB are not coming from the Southerners. You can tell by the accents. They usually have a New England accent. The drawls are the ones telling them to shut up and grow up.
