I removed this post realizing that the UK cannot be held responsible or be expected to help us, as they are suffering too.

I found a few grateful people that made me change my opinion, if only a few, its enough.

I disagree, I honestly don't think that anybody owes us a damn thing.
Yes, we've been there for other nations before, but we've also spilled alot of blood on foreign soil for oft-times vague and illogical reasons. We've meddled in the affairs of other nations countless times, we've engineered coups, and we've wrecked nations. We've really done nothing in the past 40 years that would warrant any kind of handout from any other nation. Our lending practices and our derivatives BS has played a major role in leading us and the rest of the world down this dubious path that we are now on.

Wow where to start. Those are some pretty broad statements there, you sure you can back them up with facts?Because a very large portion of the world would dispute what you have written.

What did you do in the War exactly ? Not a lot I suspect.

I'm very grateful for the US sacrifice during WW2 and since, the suffering of many of its soldiers you & I couldn't even possibly contemplate. I'm not even going to qualify what I say for the sake of debate.

Like most Europeans I'm just hugely appreciative.

But I won't grovel to anyone for events over 60 years ago which are not of my making.

Ya know, I love my country, and I love the Constitution. I believe that the u. S. of A has the potential to be the greatest country in the world again someday. However, what you say is mindless patriotic drivel that has very little basis in fact.

We HAD to enter WWII regardless of who was wining or loosing. If we hadn't, and we waited for Germany to arrive on our shores, it's very likely that we would be sprache die Duetches right now. The reason that America was such a huge help and was able to turn the tides is because we came in at the right point. If Germany could have conscripted all of Europe's navies, manufacturing, armies, fuel, we would have been hard pressed to keep them east of the Ohio river.

It would be very likely that we would have set up a Vichy government in Denver, Dallas, or Kansas City. Sure, we could have brought reinforcements from the west, but remember we didn't have the great highway system then like we do now. It would have taken WEEKS if not MONTHS for reinforcements to arrive.

Remember, that it's not just "pay us back". In the scheme of world issues, sometimes it has to be "pay it forward". We will recover, but not because the world gives us money. We need to get back to sound fiscal and foreign policies. Not look for a hand out from countries we've helped in the past.

Actually, USA served their own interests when they helped defeated The Nazis.

If USA just sitted the war off, they could one day expect a stealthy boomerang-shaped bomber that couldn't be intercepted by their fighters, much less, detected by radar of its day. Then dropping a nuclear device over Manhattan.

I'm not kidding. I'm talking of the WW2 era Horten "Amerika Bomber" project. And their 'dirty bomb' project.

The bomber would look like this, only larger. en.wikipedia.org...

Besides, the victorious allies, especially the US army took home a lot of this spoils of war - Nazi technology in the operation 'Paper Clip'

This post makes me laugh.

I really can't believe that you've got such large USA sized blinkers on that you think any of that's true.

Go pick up some history books and look at how your country has poked it's nose into so many others nations affairs, caused bloodshed, helped fund the nazis, helped fund the IRA. Go look into The Crown and The City of London (not the actual city, but The City within the city) and how it still affects US affairs.

Most of all, go travelling. You sound like you need to go see a bit of the world.

Maybe the rest of the world should say America owes them .... for supporting their movie industry, for buying their cars, for buying their weapons, for buying to their darn awful rap, hip-hop and country music.

I am being sarcastic, of course, but you know that, don't you?

I disagree.

If you used the Niremburg trials, every president after WW2 would be tried as a war criminal, and most likely sentenced to death.

I've read this thread again, and I'm wondering whether this is satire, or will be claimed as being 'satirical'. I can't really think an adult in 2009 seriously holds the simplistic beliefs expounded in the OP. It's got to be a reference to some kind of stereotype, surely?

Grow up man, seriously.

Where's all this comming from?

I cant believe your taking such personal offence at things that happened before you were even born. How do things like the Marshall Plan affect your own personal life in any way? I very much doubt that you can not go to the shop now and buy a crate of beer now becuase Britian fleeced you of your cash........
Go and talk to some actual veterans and see if their as pissed off as you.

My honest opinion is that this has a similar root to popularity of the 'Britain still owns the U.S.!', 'it was the City of London' and 'the Queen Liz did it' type threads. Over the last few years, America has been hurting and it's lead to confusion. The 'American Dream' and America's place as the undisputed #1 country in the world wasn't supposed to be like this. It was meant to go on forever like some prairie sky whilst the rest of the world looked on and marvelled at its way of life.

People are understandably on the back foot over this. They've been raised to think that there really is no other place like the Land of the Free. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, this is all crumbling and America's psyche is in pain. People are looking to various quarters for answers. Some blame themselves whilst some blame other Americans: the one's who aren't American enough or maybe too American as well as the 'traitors' and the 5th Columnists amongst them.

Others seem to be subconsciously or consciously looking elsewhere for the answers though. 'It's not America's fault: it's the rest of the world!' The rest of the world was 'jealous' and it is foreign fingers that have picked at the foundations until America started to wobble. Now things have started to become uncertain there's an opportunity to blame 'the older boys': "it wasn't our fault! We didn't do it - it was the fault of the older, bigger boys!"

Apparently, the country that didn't need the rest of the world and thought it was bigger and better than everyone and everywhere else - to the point of scoffing and arrogance - is now pointing fingers because others aren't there to help? Somehow American help - often unsolicited help from a self-imposed 'World Policeman', that's often come with heavy price tag too - now needs to be 'paid back' at a time when the rest of the world is in the same mess as America? A mess in which America is as culpable as anyone else and, according to some, more culpable than most?

How does that work?

I don't think the rest of the world would agree with any of this.
America has been playing god of the world for a very long time and its time they start staying out of others business.
They are not the world police and if anything an apology would be more appropriate then a thank you.
America does not own the world or the people in it.

Just to correct one point there. Britain has indeed paid back the USA for their WW2 aid. It took 60 years to do it.

Well if it wasn't for the British the USA would not exist - you are forever in our debt and should henceforth relinquish all material belongings and stock to their Scottish, Welsh, English and Irish counterparts, go back to ploughing fields and pray to god.

Of course that would mean the people of the British Isles would then have to relinquish some to the Norse and the majority to Italians, and so on until everything ends all the way back in Africa (or the Greys, if you're that way inclined). Perhaps we should give it to the church and seek divine salvation?

Or maybe not.

And who the hell asked you anyway to rebuild them? The Japanese, Germans, British (well, at least the Brits of yore
) , etc. are superior folks who could have rebuilt themselves without your help.

And no one you rebuilt has the money to lend anything to you, anyway. And even if they have, they shouldn't. The demise of the USA would be good for the world. You've had your time. Now go to sleep.
