Two children should be limit, says green guru

women.timesonline.co.uk

COUPLES who have more than two children are being “irresponsible” by creating an unbearable burden on the environment, the government’s green adviser has warned.

Jonathon Porritt, who chairs the government’s Sustainable Development Commission, says curbing population growth through contraception and abortion must be at the heart of policies to fight global warming. He says political leaders and green campaigners should stop dodging the issue of environmental harm caused by an expanding population.

A report by the commission, to be published next month, will say that governments must reduce population growth through better family planning.

So here we go ladies and gentlemen, now they are going to tell us that our children, and we ourselves, are destroying the earth simply by being alive!

I'd like to take a moment here to take a look back at a key statement from above...

Apparently, global warming is serious enough that we need to start killing more unborn children.

These people make me sick.

Well, I knew that was going to happen.

The PTB are going to use environmentalism as an excuse for genocide.

I still can't get over the quote I double posted.

The fact that anyone could say that abortion should be at the heart of a government policy is disgusting.

The sick thing is that there are probably plenty of people who will go right along believing that killing babies will save the planet.

It doesn’t matter if environmentalist or TPTB suggest that two children per family is the limit. Bottomline: If babies are not wanted and the family cannot afford to take care of more babies and if making more babies entitle baby makers welfare, then yeah no more than two is a good start.

And you believe that the government should be able to mandate that? Or to claim that abortion would be a good tool to use?

The governments got no business telling me how many children to have as far as I'm concerned.

I have no problem with people keeping their number of children to two, but its the families choice. And the line about abortion is akin to saying "Look everyone, its getting crouded in here, everyone needs to start playing russian roulette".

As liberal as I am, I would agree with limiting the number of children. Although it seems a strange thought, just being alive DOES have a large impact on the environment, (even more so if you eat meat!) and given our rather ominous future as a species.. I personally wouldn't want to bring a child into the world right now.
Furthermore, why isn't two children enough? I see so many couples living off benefits, who can barely afford what little they have - and with four or five children! It befuddles me completely. I think children are wonderful.. but why do we all need so many!

I agree, i think it should be 1.5 children per person, that way if your a couple you get to have 3.

There are far TOO many humans on the planet, i'm sorry to have to say it, but it's true.

I don't believe in any form of population control as far as dealing with the people already here, but we must plan for the future of our species with not so large numbers in mind.

The bottom line is there's only so much for everybody, and if we overcrowd were gonna look like mold on a sandwich.

No, what it's saying is,

"hey, it's the babies fault that you were irresponsible and got pregnant would you couldn't afford to, not only that, but your child is going to kill the earth....just kill it"

This idiot needs hangin' ! Long drop with a short rope along with the many Greeners in our New Government. No where in the Constitution does it give the Congress or Senate or Presidential advisors the right to even consider trying to mandate this BS to the citizens!!!

I don't know what to believe except that the government is already too big to control people and their rights to procreate at will. All I know is that realistically, since most people are already 'in the system' with their SSN and such, the government kinda 'owns' the parents and its offsprings.

That's what they think.

I dare someone from the government come to my home and try to tell me what to do with my family.

They'll get a quick education in the second amendment.

I agree with the sentiment, but not about the abortion part.

Over population IS a problem, but telling people to abort babies to solve this, is just not right IMO.

Neither is it any of the governments business to tell people this - take that path, and we end up the same way as China where forced abortions are not uncommon.
Full term abortion is also not uncommon in china - whether that is the process of injecting the mother to kill the baby so it is stillborn, or the cases where babies have had formaldehyde injected into the head as it crowns.

IMO this is abhorrent - do we really want to go down the same road?

I also object to the global warming scam being used to reinforce this message through fear.

The single biggest problem with overpopulation is one of resources - nothing to do with alleged AGW.

It's clear that Mr Porritt has once again failed to engage his supposedly considerable brain power before speaking - and it's equally clear that Porritt has become an "eco-nazi" of the worst kind.

Excellent summation budski.

I don't disagree with any point you made.

I agree with this article fully!

It's about time people stopped polluting the earth with multiple and unnessisary kids!

there are just too many dumbasses having kids these days... and typically when you have under educated parents (or kids in a lot of cases) having kids, your setting a lot of people up for failure.

for having any extra kids over 1 (more than 1 kid), you should be taxed and fined.
you should have to pay more income tax.

people have it in their heads that having a mess of children is somehow a right.
it's not.

as someone who doesn't have any/or want any children, im tired of paying high taxes to fund lil timmys crappy education, lil timmys single mom and lil timmys 8 brothers and sisters.

it wouldn't bug me so bad if it weren't just the mongoloids breeding.

SnF'd!!

I'm genuinely lost for words...

God forbid consenting adults have a choice (
) when it comes to expanding their families. And clearly, people need the Sustainable Development Commission to dictate when or if they should terminate their unborn child

I should have seen this coming like dalan. Yet another system of control...

In a world with 4 billion people I wonder why people have kids to begin with.
Why not adopt??
Having kids seems like a selfish decision in my opinion.

maybe if people practiced "self-control" they wouldn't need to be told.
just like bad loans.
Just like credit cards.
just like debt.

none of these things are a right... and in this day in age, having 8 kids shouldn't be a "right" either.
more than 1 kid and your a drain on society.

I would rather put population control in NOW while we still have resources.

Here's the thing...

They only want you to have a "choice" to kill babies, not to have them.
