Don't get me started on Labour, in Scotland or Westminster.... Check my avatar. They seem hell bent on ruining this country, the UK that is.

Apologies if I come across as anti-Scottish... I am just anti-anti-English. When I see people post rubbish about how evil the English are and how oppressed the Scots have been, it riles me...

I wasn't doing it to show off, you asked me about wind, i was showing that i have been educated in renewables. As for mocking your qualifications - ? Don't remember doing that. I did an NC, and an HNC in Mechatronics which I still claim today was harder than my degree.

I won't go into tidal but yes, you're right, tidal would be better but the article specifically mentioned wind. In argument to your initial comments about quantifying wind - i think i already answered that. The map was average wind in those areas and as an energy professional yourself you would know that wind would never be expected to meet base demand for electricity and that it is used to offset carbon in peak periods when available.

Anyway, this is far off topic, this thread was about some girl being beaten up for being English, not Scotlands renewable capabilities.

No, we are not the same race. Of course there has been interbreeding through the years, but we actually originate from different places/cultures.
Do a little research before you decide to spout off...

So honestly... Scotsmen, Englishmen... we're like neighbours in a semi-detached. That noise that spills through the walls shouldn't mean we can't drop round for a cup of tea and a friendly chat.

Best analogy I've seen for it yet!

I often hear the argument that the English conquered Scotland and forced them into slavery..blah blah blah..

But if that's true, why did the Scots request a Union with England?

It was the nobles who went for the union in order to gain lands and titles. The commoners weren't considered. It's not as if there was a referendum...

Feel free to cover your nation in those god awful ugly things, might actually brighten the place up! Plus, how can you base your power generating capacity on wind farms? What if the wind doesn't blow for days?

When does that ever happen? It's Scotland! If it's not rain with gale force winds we'd think the end of the world was coming!

I'm probably in a minority here, but I actually think that wind farms are rather nice! I find them to be quite calming. Certainly moreso than nuclear power stations, which fill me with dread (and potentially tumors)...

I often hear the argument that the English conquered Scotland and forced them into slavery..blah blah blah..

But if that's true, why did the Scots request a Union with England? It wasn't so widely supported south of the border, it took some going to push it thorugh, but the Scots jumped at the chance. Not only that, but they had a Scottish King on the throne of England for crying out loud! It was a Scottish idea to form the Union!

You see, they joined the Union because they bankrupted their nation by trying to be a colonial power. Their colonies in Newfoundland collapsed and left Scotland broke, so they went cap in hand to their Scottish King in England, who promptly okay'd the Union between England and Scotland.

And so it has been since 1707, the English have been subsidising Scotland ever since......

So crack on, break free. We never wanted you in the first place anyway, it was our (both English and Scot) ruling elite that buggered you lot, not us English people. We were being buggered too and today, we are still paying for your free Uni, prescriptions and council tax, while we get fleeced rotten.

A free Scotland is my dream. Please, declare independance so we can claw back the billions we send north every year, while you guys languish in economic misery, forever regretting biting the hand that has fed you for 300 years.....

And enough of the "evil English Imperialists".. Some of the biggest supporters, promoters and volunteers to fight in Imperial expansion came from Scotland.

"it was known that he had also ordered colonial governors in the Caribbean not to help the Darien colonists. It was hardly surprising that questions about the succession to the Scottish throne and the powers of the Scottish monarch were reopened."

www.parliament.uk...

The Darien scheme was sabotaged by the English yet again who had ordered the tribes of the Caribbean not to trade with the scots.

England would be bankrupt without Scotland's oil. news.bbc.co.uk...

I hope we do break free then you will see this but it will never happen as the world has become more difficult than neighbourly troubles.

England could not stand on its own two feet.

Ive even used a British Broadcasting Corporation story to show you this.

Please do some research before posting. I have nothing against current generations except when people quote utter nonsense based on opinion.

The SNP is also being denied the full budget from westminster never mind their own funds.

You can even read a BBC timeline here that repeadly quotes a lack of westminster support news.bbc.co.uk...

To end what I am saying, I am really opposed to labour but Scotland could be a rich nation if it were allowed access to its resources or even a fair share of them. It is always denied because one country needs them more than the producer.

Why do you think that Westminster does not support a referendum yet the English and Scottish people would?

I mean come on are you really that ignorant because of your national pride or do you think you speak the honest truth. If you do then please enlighten me for I have looked into this and completely disagree with some but not all of what you say.

Horrible what happened to that girl...as a black american, I find this thread fascinating..you know our history, it doesn't bear repeating. I've faced racism countless times; been called the n-word, and several of it's variants, but, as a 39-year-old guy, I'm too young to have seen the real racism in america; I've just gotten the watered down version. I'm not well-traveled, so I had no idea of the paralells that exist between the irish, english, scot experience, and my own experience, both present-day and historical, except in the removed, intellectual sense. I've not looked deeper at it, and I should. It's true that this is a HUMAN problem. this dynamic is being played out in gaza right now, between two peoples that, genetically, at least, are closer than either would like to admit. It's funny how deep to heart I've taken some of my experience with racists, how I let it hurt me, when it doesn't compare to any experience posted in this thread. that gives me something to ponder; We black americans have been pretty thin-skinned. I know I have, and I'll have to reexamine that aspect of myself. It isn't just us. It's everyone. We all deal with the same discrimination, just under different names, and with different excuses for it.
Thanks guys/gals..

I thought it was a cracking fight, for lightweights. I have a feeling they'll meet again with one as world champ and the other challenging.

Definitely, I think the re-match would be awesome.
The Aberdeen assassin looked more keen than murray but i think just for boxing, they should do it.

it would be very close.

No surprise here as they hate each other. Stupid. A couple of years ago I was in Dundee, Scotland and was in a pub with some buds. A gent walks down the street with a Manchester United shirt on and guys run out of the pub, beat on him a bit and then take all of his clothes off other than his boxers and duct tape him to a lamp post. No kidding and trust me - you were not about to go outside and attempt to help the guy. there was about 20 of them and they were all hammered and in some kind of rage. They waited outside laughing at him for about 20 minutes until a cop came. they just walked back into the pub and ordered another pint. the cop asked for the clothes back, which they gave him and he cut the gent loose and gave him his clothes back. end of story - the cop also told him to put his shirt on inside-out

Scots do not beat their women. There are arseholes everywhere in the UK and there are plenty of english woman who have been on the receiving end of a skite from their menfolk.

To have people like you condeming the scots as a race of women beaters contributes to the hatred and also helps demonstrate why we scots hate you english so much.

The main reason Scots and Welsh hate the English is because they invaded our countries. There are also man people of Irish descent in the West of Scotland and given that they invaded Ireland as well and the troubles. Just watch the movies Braveheart or the Wind That Shakes The Barley and you will see.

There is also the small matter of the mainstream media which is supposed to represent the whole of the UK continually refering to England as "we" or "us" in connection with world sporting events and forcing the World Cup win of 66 down the rest of our throats at every opportunity.

In relation to this there is also the matter of English soccer hooligans causing mayhem all over the world and being branded British so as not to make the english look bad. All these things are what combine to make us dislike the English as a Race and Nation.

I would also point out that we are not alone. Countless times I have been abroad and mistaken for English. I have been treated badly in countries such as spain, greece and Canada where people mistakenly think the accent is English. Every time this has happened I have simply explained that I am in fact from Scotland, not England and the transformation is instant and you are treated as a friend, so it is not just Scotland that hates you English. The WORLD hates you !!.

Oh and for the person that thinks the English subsidise the scots, the reason we get so much from Money from Westminster is because the revenues made from north sea oil ( which belongs to the Scots !! ) more than covers it !
