I'm not an expert about anything but wouldn't all the geologists and people qualified to have an intelligent insight into this whole mess be running for the hills if it were that scary?

If I'm misguided please reply.

thanks,
Chris N.

Just curious if Christopher Sanders has actually been contacted?

Have you read the "Yellowstone Volcano Observatory" website? They are saying "Similar earthquake swarms have occurred in the past in Yellowstone without triggering steam explosions or volcanic activity. Nevertheless, there is some potential for hydrothermal explosions and earthquakes may continue or increase in magnitude. There is a much lower potential for related volcanic activity."

Mr. Sanders, you said that an impact from space happened here 500 million years ago and wiped out all life as we know it including the dinosaurs. That sounds funny to me because the dinosaurs are well believed to have died out 65 million years ago from an meteorite that caused the Chicxulub Crater, located on the Yucatan Peninsula. In fact, no dinosaur walked the earth until the Mesozoic era, which by the way began only 248 mya. That's geology 101. Also, what substantial prof do you have of an impact here 500 mya? Has any one found shocked quartz deep below the earth at Yellowstone? Is there a layer of iridium found deep around the earth's crust from 500 mya? I haven't heard of any. Do you have a degree in Geology? From where?

Mr Saunders

Although I dislike the methods you have used to bring the recent events at yellowstone to the worlds attention I am happy it is now being picked up by the world press and my question is this:

Hypothetically if it was confirmed that there is indeed a very real possibility of a super eruption, and that this would have world wide, long term consequences. Is there anything the human race could do to lessen the impact of the event. For example trying to drill the caldera and release some of the magma from different sections i.e syphon it into surrounding valleys and land or pump a million tons of concrete into different parts of the park to thicken the crust above the caldera.

Surely as mad as this sounds there must be something that can be done to stop this from putting us back into the dark age??????????

I just want to add to the question above: How are the animals in the area reacting in general? Has it changed since the earthquakes have started? Any abnormal patterns emerging from their behavior?

Is it possible for there to be a "minor" eruption? Does it have to be a "super" eruption? Can a lava flow release enough pressure to prevent an explosive eruption?

Mr. Sanders,

To begin, I would first like to say thank you for considering my following questions.

At this point (4 January 2009 8:20 AM UTC) the USGS has not provided any indications that an eruption event is imminent despite the fact that many geologists and volcanologists are studying the recent seismic activity. This leads me to believe that your claims are nothing more than an attempt to attract attention to yourself for whatever reasons.

In light of that, my questions to you are:

  1. Wouldn’t it be prudent for an official statement to come from USGS rather than a LONE geologist using his own personal website to disseminate such information?
  2. What do you hope to gain by making sensationalist claims?
  3. Are you aware that by making such claims that are outside the realm of mainstream science that you could be placing your professional career on the line?
  4. As a scientist myself I must ask, have you ever heard of the peer review process?

Greetings

Question 1: Is it possible there is a correlation between the earth core shift/magnetic pole shift and recent seismic/volcanic activity globally?

(As you may be aware, magnetic north is moving at a good clip towards Siberia and its shift has become faster. Some say we are due for a "Magnetic flip" soon.)

Question 2: If an eruption (a "super eruption") were to happen in Yellowstone. Would there be a cascade effect which would cause other catastrophes such as a major earthquake in southern California? (for example)

Question 3: What is "your speculation" on the impact to life after a super eruption soon after the event and in the first few years after?

Thank you.

What would be the impact on global warming if a super eruption happned.
Would it be so massive, there is no way we can correct it by buying carbon credits from the panty-waist liberals?

It doesn't mean that it will happen REALLY. It means that people should pay the attention on things in Yellowstone.

Anyway, there is anoter event related to Yellowstone possible supereruption:

One week month ago, the was the radio interview with an psychic woman who predicted the fall of communism in 1989 more than 10 years ago.
And on this New Year, she was the guest of TV talkshow:

"M"= moderator
"W"=woman

M:What new will happen in 2009 year?
W:There will be the big changes in the whole world
M: They will be caused by the credit crunch mostly, I guess.
W:Yes, some of them will. It will take decade, before it will turn better.
W:Many people will be poor, even the richest ones.
M:And what else will happen in 2009?
W:There will be the number of serious natural events in US.
W:Big tornados, very fast wind... as the global warming goes on.
W:One of these event will be as big as it will change the structure of the world as we know it today.
M:Big tornado in Europe?
W:No not tornado and not in Europe. It will happen in US.
M:I can't imegine the natural event in US that may cause such changes in EU and elsewhere.

then the moderator changed the topic.
M: How did you predict the fall of communism in 1989?
W: I had the live dream one day in 1977.
M:What kind of dream?
W:It was the dream, where the students gave the flowers to the cops, who want to beat them.
W:and the hospital she-nurses were ringing with keys. And the actors were singing the anthem on the balcony.

***In reality, on 17-Nov-1989, there was the student strike, they changed the direction wo permission.
a sqadron of cops with shields had the order to stop them. The students tried to give them the flawers and candles they had (it was memorial day of students murdered by Nazi in 1939). The cops attacked them instead.
There was the rumor that one of students died because of beatings on the street. It was just the rumor, not the truth. And this rumor sparked the revolution. Two days later, Wenceslas square was full of people with lit candles and ringing by keys.***

M: The psychics are strange people. They're often talking in puzzles.
M: Some of them because they do not know...
M: Big natural catastrophe in US, which will change the world. What may I imagine on that?
W: I don't want cause the panic, but it has something to do with the earthquakes and huge voclano eruptions.

the moderator looked stunned a bit after that, they said her a goodbye then.

Mr Sanders,
If nothing major actually happens, in the terms of a catastrophe, which it more than likely will not.
Will you feel embarrassed and possibly change careers?

Mr. Sanders. Your webpage shows a photo of you and your fathers. Could you please provide a brief biography about the life and death of your father.

Also, it seems you play the piano. It sounded very nice, do you market a cd, and if so, where can they be found?

You are a philanthopist championing the cause of the less fortunate. Do you meet with opposition to this cause?

And fourthly, where are you??? The board has been swimming with activity for 4 days, and all we need here is you.

Thankyou,
HugmyRek

First off let me say you are as hot as your predictions...

That said, what response have you had from the Park officials and the USGS when approaching them with your concerns? Also have you noted any sulphuric problems in the area?

Thankyou and please join our humble little site as you will be a marvelous contributing member.

P.S. Are you single?

Mr Sanders,

1) Did the model estimate the amount of eruptive magma in the Ys magmatic chamber?

2) Can it estimate the amount of ash and crystalic sulphur will be released to the atmosphere in the case of eruption?

3) What do you think about the global effect of it? Will it affect the distant lands, such as Europe?

Thank you

Tom from Central Europe

And a reminder.. The reason why we are attempting to get this gentleman on is so we can verify credentials and knowledge of geology to back and solidify such a warning... We can not "Deny Ignorance" unless we go to the source and investigate/research.
