and BTW - scroo Obama's response. That's not change.

“Politics” may be a synonym for “realistic.” In the much TOO long presidential campaign we just finished, finally, Obama was just a hair’s breadth away from the Republicans playing the RACE card. Eisenhower played the RACE card by his slovenly response to the one time only opportunity opened up by the Brown case and the subsequent rampant violations of black American’s civil rights in the South. Sorry Ike, you did great at Normandy but you bungled it at the White House. War heroes are not guaranteed to be good at civil rule.

Nixon played the RACE card in 1968 when he and John Mitchell - the first Attorney General to end in prison - when he reminded he opposed forced busing when campaigning in the South. Southern whites knew exactly what he meant! And so did blacks around the country. (Forced school busing was the only tool available to the Federal courts to enforce public school desegregation). That maneuver came to be known as the “Southern Strategy.”

Gerald Ford, to his good credit, had no guile in his heart. He was the only UN-elected president in American history. He probably lost his bid for re-election in 1976 because of his 1974 pardon of Richard Nixon.

Ronald Reagan, the Republican icon, and the major cause for the mortgage meltdown and its consequences - his motto "government is the problem not the solution" - was to say the least a humorous racist. Ronnie won the governorship of California playing to his anti-black audiences with the famous Welfare Cadillac story. Nobody has ever accused Ronnie of being too smart but everyone admitted he was a story teller par excellence. Without equal.

The “Welfare Cadillac” story if you haven’t heard it, relates how a black woman drove up to the Food Bank - yes, we had those back then too - to get her weekly allotment of rice, peanut butter, powdered milk and stale bread - driving a CADILLAC! He parlayed that much loved story into the job of president in 1980 and sullied only by the still unexplained “October Surprise.” (Reagan’s soon to-be CIA chief Bill Casey was said to have met secretly with Iranians in October and made a deal with them to hold the hostages in Tehran until after the election which spelled doom for Jimmy Carter).

George Herman Walker Bush. The scion of two rich New England families, the Walkers and the Bushes. His father, Prescott Bush, was a leading Republican senator from Connecticut. New England Republicans are generally TOLERABLE by people like me because they actually do have a heart. Unlike the Southern and Western Republicans, they were called Eastern Establishment Republicans. Like Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins both of Maine. And the recently defeated Lincoln Chaffee of Rhode Island, beaten by a right wing GOP type.

G. H. W. Bush played the RACE card in a big way. It was the infamous Willie Horton ad on tv. All the states and the Federal prison system had a program where prisoners within 6 months of scheduled release were furloughed to go home over weekends. It was believed this gradual reintroduction into normal society would lower the recidivism rate.

Willie Horton was released on such a furlough from a state prison in Massachusetts. Mike Dukakis was governor and the Democratic presidential candidate. Horton kidnapped a white couple and raped the woman. George Bush played the ad endlessly on tv using a black actor to mimic Horton and a turnstile showing how Dukakis was WEAK on crime. An American no-no. The ad quashed any chance of winning Dukakis had.

George the First never had the spunk to admit the furlough practice was employed by most states and the Federal government. Instead he assigned the practice to his opponent alone. Nothing raises the white man’s bogey-man more than for his wife or daughter or mother being raped by of all things, a BLACK man! Hello Red-neck-vile!

The current Bush Junior has always been known as a racist. You can’t be elected 2 times in Texas without being one! And while whites seem oblivious to it, blacks know the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND hoopla is really code words for exactly that, leaving every BLACK child behind. Many schools are now as much segregated as before Brown v. Topeka (1954). Only now it is done INSIDE the building and not outside as earlier. Most whites are on the AP track, most blacks are not.

I said a lot - maybe too much - to say this. I applaud John S. McCain for one thing and one thing only. He refused to play the RACE card. For that alone Americans can forgive him the greatest insult ever offered to the intelligence of the electorate by his designation of Sarah Palin to be his “back up” player. Ugh!

Barack (or any Democrat) who wants to win the election, must walk a narrow tightrope when it comes to WAR and to ISRAEL. Republicans are like a herd of charging elephants on either topic. Or like the End Time religionists I have mocked earlier as they enter their churches, they “park their brains at the door.” But not their wallets which will shortly be plucked by the speaker’s aides.

To offset his promise to PULL out of Iraq, Barack had to counter that by promising to SEND several more brigades into Afghan. That was done to keep the lid on the PRO war thinking of Red state types. If a Republican even thinks he SMELLS a peace-nik, it’s time for WAR!

Can Obama “solve” the Arab-Israeli problem? Well, Carter tried, Clinton tried, and it was not solved. The majority of Jewish people in Israel do not want it solved. Things are going their way. In the long haul, they see ALL the Arabs OUT of the State of Israel and the conquered territories incorporate into GREATER Israel.

Do I think Obama can solve this intractable problem? No. Only the two combatants can SOLVE the problem. Outsiders can only be facilitators.

Of course. The oldest written record of genocide is committed by the Jews, and is documented in the bible.

"Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'I will punish the Amalekites for what they did in opposing the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt. Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have; do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'" (1 Samuel 15:2-3. See also Exodus 17:7-13.)

Of course, it's ok since 'god' told them to do it.

There are other examples.

The support of Christians for Jews is mind boggling since Judaism is traditionally anti-Christ.

Last time I checked Egypt still blocked the border. And the reason Israel sent troops in [to Gaza] is because the Palestinians attacked them! Now, please explain why Egypt too blocks the Palestinians, and not just now but for as long if not longer then Israel.

I don’t pretend to KNOW the reasons for Egypt or Hamas actions. I do know the Egyptians and Israeli signed a peace accord when Jimmy Carter was president which included posting 700 US Army peacekeepers in the Sinai and the US to pay Egypt and Israel $3 b. a year, each. I think the former are gone but the latter continues.

Egypt, despite ill-informed American’s predisposition to believe the contrary, tries to be a law abiding country. Egypt has no economic capacity to accept a half million Palestinian refugees that might rush across an open border. It is contrary to Islam to kill another Muslim so Egypt faces a dilemma at the border with Gaza. They do the best they can.

Egypt has 81.7 million people. It’s GDP per person is given at $5,000. Infant mortality is 28 per 1000 live births. It’s GINI index is 34. The richest 10% of household incomes share is 29.5% compared to the poorest 10% sharing only 3.7% of national income.

The Gaza Strip is 136 square miles. Its population is given at 1.5 million. The West Bank area is 2,120 square miles. Its population is 2.4 million PLUS 364,000 Israeli squatting there in defiance of international law. The combined Palestinian GDP per person is given at $1,100. Infant mortality however is a remarkable 19 per 1000 live births. Other economic numbers are not available.

Israel’s comparable numbers are population, 7.1 million including 385,000 squatting in the Occupied Territory, Golan and East Jerusalem all of which are in direct violation of the UN Charter. It’s GDP per person is given at $26,600. Infant mortality is 4.29 per 1000 live births. It’s GINI index is 38.6. The richest 10% of household incomes share is 28.3% compared to the poorest 10% sharing only 2.4% of national income.

The US numbers are 304 million people. It’s GDP per person is given at $45,800. Infant mortality is 6.3 per 1000 live births. It’s GINI index is 45. The richest 10% of household incomes share is 30% compared to the poorest 10% sharing only 2% of national income.

All numbers from
www.cia.gov...

The GINI Index. The Gini coefficient is a measure of statistical dispersion most prominently used as a measure of inequality of income distribution or inequality of wealth distribution. It is defined as a ratio with values between 0 and 1: A low Gini coefficient indicates more equal income or wealth distribution, while a high Gini coefficient indicates more unequal distribution.

There is no cruelty so great as that practiced by the religious zealot.

The support of Christians for Jews is mind boggling since Judaism is traditionally anti-Christ.

It’s mainly a Protestant thing. Catholics as I reminded elsewhere had it in their Catechism that “Jews were Christ Killers!” After 1,000 years of indoctrination it is of little wonder to me that the Germans found it “EASY” to commit the Holocaust. I don’t know if you noticed it or not but when JP2 offered his apology to the Jewish people, he nearly GAGGED getting the words out. And if that was not enough, the Holy Mother Church managed to FIND one more slap at Jews, by naming an ex-German soldier to be its Pope!

Now, German Protestants did no better than their Catholic neighbors. Even in some American Protestant pulpits - usually HARD right wing types - uttered those infamous words of death.

But for the most part, America is PAST that today. And Germany is working HARD to rid itself of its past misdeeds. But as Jews rightly point out, the WORLD must not be allowed to FORGET the Holocaust. Not that they - the Jews - alone suffered for we have had holocausts since time immemorial as you remind above.

But we will never have it far enough behind us it seems. It is the question I ask, “How do good people do bad things?” All TOO often the answer is RELIGION. The scourge of humanity.

The Palestinians ATTACKED Israel, firing 80 rockets. Isreal counter attacks.

Oh come on, any time Israel attacks, it's called defence and when Hamas attacks, it's called an un-provoked attack?

From counterpunch.com...
"Israel could have put an end to the rockets a long time ago. Indeed, there was relative quiet during the six-months truce with Hamas, a quiet that was broken most often as a reaction to Israeli violence: that is, following the extra-judicial execution of a militant or the imposition of a total blockade which prevented basic goods, like food stuff and medicine, from entering the Gaza Strip. Rather than continuing the truce, the Israeli government has once again chosen to adopt strategies of violence that are tragically akin to the one’s deployed by Hamas, only the Israeli ones are much more lethal.

If the Israeli government really cared about its citizens and the country’s long term ability to sustain itself in the Middle East, it would abandon the use of violence and talk with its enemies."

And to the people who claim that Israel only targets militants:
counterpunch.com...

The bombings were timed to cause the maximum number of “enemy” casualties. They occurred at approximately 11:20am on a bustling Saturday morning, just as schools were changing shifts and many children were either leaving for home or coming to afternoon classes; when offices were filled with their employees, and streets busy with the late morning crowds out getting lunch or on quick errands of one sort or another. The day before, Israel had opened some of the crossings into Gaza to let in another trickle of humanitarian aid. ‘See how generous we are to our enemy!’ they exclaim with straight faces to the international media. Each time Gaza reaches the brink of starvation and ruin, they let in just enough food and supplies to silence potential critics. Then the next round begins. It is hardly surprising. After all, this policy was outlined publicly by Dov Weisglass not so long ago when he promised that Israel would put Gaza on a punishing “starvation diet” until it saw reason and evicted its democratically elected government. Many people, including members of the Hamas government, believed that reopening the crossings to international aid signaled another brief lull in military activity, as it usually had, while the IDF General staff prepared its next offensive. In this way were the people and government of Gaza unprepared for the next day’s slaughter.

At least 70 of the victims were civilians, a number of them young children. A mother in Rafah bent over the corpses of her three dead children screaming, unable to stop, horrified eye witness T., who wrote up the day’s events as if the formal documentation of an overpowering human event could serve as a form of catharsis.

Most of the dead were young men training to become police officers, or newly on the job, because it is one of the only ways left to acquire paid work today in the Gaza Strip. With the siege of Gaza and the subsequent withering of its civil society and infrastructure, its industries, shops and restaurants, banks and social services, came the skyrocketing unemployment figures and the controlled collapse of an economy kept ‘alive’ by the slow drip of international humanitarian aid allowed in on that generous whim of the occupation officer.

And again, how do people here explain the large number of peace activists in Israel calling for an end to Israel's attacks? How do you explain the jewish grandmothers who make a point every day of walking to the checkpoints to prevent the Israeli soldiers from harassing the Palestinians as they try and walk through?

Gamer, I have been tested to the extreme with your one sided speculation.

Many posters have realy tried to debate with you in ettiquet based dialogue. Its been to no avail.

I respect your dedication to your beliefs but Im saddened by your innability to open your mind even a tiny bit to facts, to history and more importantly to the fact that people, yes people are being killed in Gaza.

These issues have been discussed over and over again in the last week on numerous threads. This is just more anti Israeli racist rhetoric.

Christians are spiritually grafted in and are joint heirs with God's people...the Jews. Read the book of Romans for yourself. They are spiritually veiled from receiving the truth of Christ and the salvation message. But the bible says the veil will be lifted just prior to the return of Christ when he sets up his Kingdom. In fact, in recent years there is evidence that that veil is being lifted as many Jews are beginning to accept that Jesus Christ was in fact the Messiah. So, when you curse Israel you are cursing Christians and you bring a curse upon your own head.

This is an emotionally charged issue as it is, without you stirring up more hate and discontent. Israel must protect it's citizens, tourists, etc. including law abiding Pallies. But Hamas declared war times 100 with that many missiles being fired on Israel's citizens. One missile fired was enough just cause for such a response.

Everyone should just agree to disagree and leave it in God's hands and stop spreading hate propaganda and hate motivated opinions.

I don't even know what to say to you. Lol. There's so many things I could say. America is responsible for many, many deaths. But getting America to stop so that this could be fixed would take alot more than threatening to the oil and gas change. We just went through that crisis, do you REALLY want to go through that again? They need to make another angle if thats the case, because withholding oil from us would only make it worst! And if you can't see that then your holding a blind eye to the truth. Sure, dangling what we need/want the most is a very tempting and wise thing to do, but coming from an American residing here in America, I do not wished to be treated as if I personally am responsible for my governments decisions there for punished. That is very, very unjust to me.

The best thing to do would be for us America, average citizens, to come together and preach to the U.S. about how the government is killing all of these lives. Don't leave it up the Arabs to try and fix it for us. If something is wrong and we know it then isn't our job to fix it ourselves? Come on now, we were born with more common sense than that.

Peace

The Arabs are at fault. The Jews are at fault. Christians are at fault. We are all fallen beings. We will always resort to violence to protect our stuff because our hearts are impure and greed permeates all our thoughts. I'm so tired of war and hatred and strife. I'm so tired of the government and religion promoting war in the name of Freedom or God. Man left to hisself will only eventually destroy all there is. We are entering the "End Times" Tribulation period spoken of in Daniel and Revelation. Hang on. You ain't seen nothing yet! Final thought...God wins.

Soo... If Mexico was lobbing 60 rockets a day at San Diego do you think we would wait an HOUR before devastating whoever was responsible? They have shown incredible restraint when faced with blatant aggression from Hamas for the past year. I HOPE they don't stop until they've eradicated every terrorist in Gaza and then they turn around and do the same thing to Hezbollah in the North. Good riddance to them, they're finally getting what's coming to them. Innocents are dying, sure, but it happens in war. If Hamas cared at all about civilians in Gaza they wouldn't setup their launchers in the middle of residential areas. All they want are more propaganda pictures to show the world and cry... "Look at us, the poor Palestinians... *snip*

That's always easy to say when the people you know aren't the ones dying isn't it?

Israel is well known for being aggressive toward Hamas as well. The issue is far from simple. If you were being blockaded in an area and denied access to food, water, medicines etc. i'm quite sure you'd engage in some hostile actions of your own.

Why was the area blockaded... Hmm... probably because, Hamas, a known terrorist organization, staged a coup and took over from Fatah. Why the hell would you then let them smuggle in weapons from land, sea, and air from Iran & Syria? Quit crying, if the Palestinian people had any spine, they'd step and eradicate the insurgents themselves. You want to stop getting kicked around, start taking control of your own lives and territory. In 2005 Israel pull out basically giving gaza back to the Pals, what have they done since? Have they started forging a national identity and working toward self sufficiency? It's basically a case of they were given plenty of rope to either let themselves down or hang themselves and they chose to twist in the wind....

I'm not crying, but i thank you for your obvious concern about my emotional state. Israel had a hand in forming Hamas you know. It did so to counter the PLO. As for why the people don't overthrow Hamas-they support hamas. They support the agenda hamas pushes. Why would they overthrow it? To the "pals" Israel is the enemy, hamas is doing a good thing. Why do they view Isreal as the enemy? Did you ever think about that?

Yes, if we are to act responsibly. And not irrationally. Even our so-called SMART bombs are no better that the intelligence behind them. Look at the civilians and wedding parties we have blasted in both Iraq and Afghan. “Collateral damage” we label those dead souls.

I HOPE they don't stop until they've eradicated every terrorist in Gaza and then turn around and do the same thing to Hezbollah in the North. Good riddance to them, they're finally getting what's coming to them. Innocents are dying, sure, but it happens in war.

This sounds like Bush43! But is he, like Sarah Palin, smarter than a 5th grader?

If Hamas cared at all about civilians in Gaza they wouldn't setup their launchers in the middle of residential areas. All they want are more propaganda pictures to show the world and cry . . . "Look at us, the poor Palestinians . . .

And the equally mad-dog Israelis will provide those pictures while their American sycophants applaud the dead Palestinians. The Hamas base expands by 10 new recruits for each IDF murdered civilian.

Gaza is 120 square miles. It has 1.5 million people. That works out to 12,500 people per square mile, on average. W-DC for example has a population density of 9,639 per square mile on average.

Let’s face it, the Israeli WANT to kill civilians and destroy their property. That is teaching a group lesson. Justice West of the Pecos style. That is no accident. But is has always been counter-productive. What’s that definition of insanity? You do the same thing over and over but expect a different outcome?
