Whats going on at yellowstone?

And a 2.7. earthquake.usgs.gov...

I have a feeling i may be up for a while.... things are jumpin tonight at yellowstone... i know there have been past swarms, but there hasn't been one of this magnitude for a lil while, so its defin worth staying up late to watch

Total of 6 eq's so far and I have not seen it swarm like this in a while.

I would keep an eye on the animals in the park to see how they're acting. They are pretty good indicators of a large, impending earthquake.

i think its within the normal range unless it picks back up in the next few days. Last swarm was awhile back in 2010 i think.

This is not a swarm by Yellowstone standards

The 2010 swarm was several thousand quakes. (2000+)

Nevertheless, swarms are common at Yellowstone, with 100s to 1000s of events, some of which can reach magnitudes greater than 4.0. There were about 900 earthquakes during the December 2008 - January 2009 Yellowstone Lake swarm.

I've been seeing a lot of activity on the NW coast this summer and wondered what effects it would have. It's starting to look like swarming activity in the Yellowstone area and pretty shallow in the last couple of days, according to the usgs map that shows when eq's are 2.5+.

Looking around there seems to be some activity on the 25th yet to be reported.




Also, and not connected with the above, there is a signal on YML, YMP, YMS and YPC which I believe is ice - on the transmission antenna (But I could be wrong). Sample below.

the end of the world is not going to happen on dec 21st. sorry to disappoint you and good old YS is not going to blow her top on that day..

granted it may happen in our lifetime but not any time soon. so do us a favour ad stop begging for it ..

Yeah, I love the people who believe that nothing will ever happen.
The fact that I don't have a Brontosaurus eating leaves off the trees in my yard is proof enough that something happened at some point. We just don't know what.

I dont believe this .. ok if your insisting on a better explination i guess ill have to enlighten you...


Im not ruling out an eruption , in fact i do believe that she will blow sometime in the next 30 years ... but what iam saying is this .. we re talking about a MASSIVE size volcano. ok ? ok .. things that are normally a warning sign of an impending eruption at any normal size volcano is ALWAYS present at YS you get constant deformation . ( uplift and deflation ) quake swarms of low mag all of the time ...


when she blows one would think that those mag of quakes would be a lot larger then they are now in and around the caldrea herself ...

two there would be harmonic tremors . which acording to my own research on the matter has yet to happen.

3 large numbers of animals suddenly dieing large deforestation .. etc ...


now i hope you understand what the hell im talking about and iv been following her actives for years ... though this thread , my own research and the USGS

I think you had a bit too much coffee this morning.
I wasn't saying that Yellowstone caused the dinos' demise.
I was simply commenting in this manner because I'm tired of seeing the nothing's-ever-going-to-happen folks coming into the threads about natural disasters (whatever it may be) and saying that nothing's ever going to happen. This Earth isn't The Truman Show. Changes happen all the time and it's pure ignorance to think that nothing is ever going to happen whether it be Yellowstone, a meteor strike, or whatever ELE we simply can't imagine. These people truly need to get out of their little bubbles and realize that this world isn't going to stay all fuzzy and comfy forever.

Calm down.... I never said she was going to erupt... I asked if there has been an increase in activity... That is all. Nothing more.

The reason I was asking is because dec 21 is coming up pretty quick, and if YS was going to do something, it may be showing signs now. You don't have to snap at me because I brought up that date, it is a real date, and there is a lot of mystery surrounding it. So forgive me for being curious about something other than nothing happening.
