well .. some activity at least gives us something to talk about..
Yellowstone National Park - NASA's Landsat satellites have been tracking Yellowstone's underground geothermal activity, a deep heat that is stored 4,000 miles into the earth's core. But there are areas where these energy levels are becoming erratic. Old Faithful could be in trouble.
Up until recently, the heat coming from Yellowstone's underground magma chamber has always been the fuel for over 10,000 of the volcano's features: Old faithful, hot springs, geysers, mud spots, terraces and mud pots. But NASA is reporting that the Landsat imagery has picked up some unexpected developments outside the park's borders, also picked up by energy companies beyond the park's borders.
The park had funded a study on the unexpected geothermal activity, looking for a new perspective on the developing event.
The Landsat satellite allows the scientists to recognize big changes occurring in the geothermal area, like Yellowstone. However, nobody knows what is happening or where due to the satellite's large pixel size in its imagery. But clues are being found regarding the interconnection of the underground geothermal events. The goal is to obtain higher resolution in future thermal data. NASA's next Landsat satellite, the Landsat Data Continuity Mission, will have a new thermal instrument on it for use in 2013 to add to Yellowstone's geothermal record. YELLOWSTONE VOLCANO (CAVW #1205-01-)
44°25'48" N 110°40'12" W, Summit Elevation 9203 ft (2805 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: NORMAL
Current Aviation Color Code: GREEN
During the month of December 2011 (through 5:00 PM MST December 29) 68 earthquakes were located in the Yellowstone National Park region. The largest was a magnitude 2.5 event on December 27 at 10:40 PM MST, located about 9 miles north of Tower Junction, YNP. A small swarm of 18 quakes located 5 miles north of West Thumb, YNP was recorded on December 8 with magnitudes from 0.3 - 1.6.
Yellowstone earthquake activity continues at normal background levels.
Slow subsidence of the caldera, which began in early 2010, continues. Current deformation patterns at Yellowstone are well within historical norms.

Guys and gals yellowstone is my department. Let me tell you about it. It wakes up heavily this time of year for a reason.
Also you should expect another big EQ in spring!
Of course this is my opinion of what I have to say.

Trust me dear, while you may be uptight about those instrument, they are nothing more than instrument failure. We have been here for a long time now - getting to know the mrs. we even started new threads because she went sleepy to sharpen our skills for when she awakes again. There are the Quake Watch Threads and Volcano Watch Threads. We have learned much! While I came later onto this Thread because I never knew it existed doesn't mean I haven't been watching every move for the past 10-15 years. Also, I ask you to trust me that there is a mighty fine group of Folks here on this thread that if she were to move even the slightest with a single snore, We would be ALL OVER IT!!! We are the Quake Watcher, Volcanoe Watchers - and Keeper of Yellowstone IMHO. We even alert the paid folks various agencies to what is going on when things occur and They watch this Thread for information.. Because WE ARE THAT GOOD! - so take a chill pill and learn how to read the instruments - Puterman has a whole learning leason in his signature - or, you could read this whole entire Thread and learn more than most with degrees Love this thread - Yellowstone Rocks!edit on 5-1-2012 by Anmarie96 because: dreaded spelling
