Tsk Westcoast, getting lazy?

Two seconds to look at the lists.

Shows on ENZ channel as well: YFT.WY..ENZ.2011.144

The b****s have removed the HHZ channel from public access. I hate it when they change these things around so much. All my carefully researched links get screwed up.

And on YPP: YPP.WY..EHZ.2011.144

Massively bigger on YPM: YPM.WY..EHZ.2011.144

On YPM as a plot from the wavewform data prior to turning into a sound file.

Wyoming and Montana are suffering from flooding as well. However this is the part that concerns me the most:

In Rosebud County, the Yellowstone is above flood stage at Forsyth and basements throughout the county are filling because of high groundwater. U.S. Highway 12 is closed between Ingomar and Forsyth.

Billings Gazette - News Source

If this water sinks into the ground and meets up with magma... well, I don't want to think about that! Robin, anyone else... thoughts???

There is no direct path to magma in Yellowstone, so water hitting it and causing it to go boom, isn't likely to happen.

What can happen is that the flood water would saturate the ground water table and possibly many 'dry' or inactive features would 'revive'. Which would be very cool for the tourist season.

Yellowstone is fine.

Here's our monthly report. She's been very quiet.

YELLOWSTONE VOLCANO OBSERVATORY MONTHLY UPDATE
Wednesday, June 1, 2011 2:15 PM MDT (Wednesday, June 1, 2011 20:15 UTC)

YELLOWSTONE VOLCANO (CAVW #1205-01-)
44°25'48" N 110°40'12" W, Summit Elevation 9203 ft (2805 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: NORMAL
Current Aviation Color Code: GREEN

During the month of May 2011, 105 earthquakes were located in the Yellowstone National Park region. The largest was a magnitude 3.2 event on may 7 at 10:32 PM MDT, located about 11 miles northeast of West Yellowstone, MT. A small swarm of 27 earthquakes was recorded on May 2-4, located about 6 miles northwest of West Yellowstone, MT, with magnitudes ranging from M -0.9 to M 1.6.

Earthquake activity continues at background levels. For a map of recent earthquakes, please see:

www.seis.utah.edu...

Ground Deformation Summary: The period of caldera uplift that began in 2004 ended over one year ago. Since then, the caldera has been subsiding, though seasonal deformation from ground water changes may temporarily mask the trend. Please see: www.uusatrg.utah.edu... for a map of GPS stations in the Yellowstone vicinity. For a graph of daily GPS positions at White Lake, within the Yellowstone caldera, please see: pboweb.unavco.org...×eries=raw.

Glad to see she's been very quiet.

However... I am more glad that there are people HERE who pay attention and would run in and sound the alarm. As I watch the USGS site multiple times a day and noticed that yesterday, they were posting the little quakes in Yellowstone, 24 hours after they happened.

That's far from comforting and awakens my inner conspirator... causing me to wonder what they do not report.

.....speaking of which:

Take a look at this (about 10:40 UTC)

What do you think? Explosions? It shows up in about half the park but best at Old Faithful

I can't make any large post to this because I'm not entirely sure how to read this except it does look like there is a TON of activity going on. That can't be the best considering the source, right? Concerning, that is for sure.

Japan had another 6.0+
earthquake.usgs.gov...

What you are likely seeing is the reflected waves from that quake.

When you watch the park, you have to remember there are things outside of the park that will show up on the sensors too.

Crosschecking is your friend.

What do you mean by crosschecking? I am new to some of this so I have some to learn. If I'm understanding you correctly, because the plates are touching in places, that if one side of the plate releases pressure (earthquake), then there it affects the other side somehow, possibly creating pressure?

Seismic waves travel around the globe and are sometimes strong enough to be picked up on other recorders. There is some delay between the readings depending on distance and waveforms. I am not sure that is what is going on here but I believe that is what was being suggested.
Here is a link to a forum that should get you off to a running start on understanding these processes.

Welcome, but I warn you it can become an addiction!!!

Thanks for the link. It can be somewhat confusing around here if one doesn't know a clue what exactly to look for.... and yes it can be very addicting. Trying to control myself not to read randomly.

To get a general idea of how long it takes the seismic waves to travel, here's a link to a USGS chart. Based on that, you can actually calculate how long the waves from a big event in IE: Japan, would take to show up on your favorite webicorder IE: YMR. Don't forget the huge Coal Mines in the Thunder Basin, who's Cover Shot detonations show up on the webicorders too. They have a blasting schedule, you can also use that to correlate some of the events you're seeing on the webicorders with possible outside inflences.

Sorry for the double-post, but...
Speaking of YMR, it looks pretty busy!
Here is a link to various Yellowstone webicorders for a quick comparison.

Try this one and in particular the first link. That should give you a better idea of what seismos are telling you.

The item pointed out by westcoast at 10:30 UTC, thereabouts, sounds like earthquakes even if slightly high pitched and since there were 3 quakes in the area of the affected seismos, 2 before and one after, I would suggest that the event on the seismo is indeed a series of small earthquakes. I am not sure what it would be if it was explosions. I would expect the signal to be stronger in the East if it was Gilette.

There was another ATS member that pointed out the Yellowstone Thumbnail webicorders. Connieinutah.

Here is the link. Yellowstone Webicorder thumbnails

Here is her quote that was posted in the Santorini Greece volcano thread.

Sorry if this isn't the correct place to put this, but someone with knowledge of Yellowstone please reply. And moderators please put this in the correct place. connieinutah June 21 2011

Anyone have any thoughts? Not all of them are showing anything, but the ones that are have some real activity. Is it going to just get worse when the new CME C-7 hits???
